  1. It rings a bell; I've certainly heard someone singing that live recently, probably as recent as this century. Susan Boyle, maybe..?
  2. Read about it here ... Musiker : Our Story ...
  3. A drop of wood glue won't hurt, though.
  4. Being somewhat minimalist, and having, not just a bass rig, but a PA, guitar stuff, drums etc to shift, we make up 'dolly plates' from ply and a set of heavy-duty castors... Optionally, cut a hand-grip into one end, to ease carrying it empty, and/or hole for a knotted rope for hauling it along. Cheap, cheerful, pretty well unbreakable and polyvalent. Not so good when stairs are involved, I'll grant, but handles Leslie cabs or pianos, too.
  5. Good evening, Leslie, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  6. Here is my contribution to the April 2021 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: Leonard Smalls. A solemn occasion, so a sombre mood seemed appropriate, to commemorate the Fallen. A tribal tribute, with a military tinge, and weather to suite. Not really dance-hall stuff; more for reflection on the wisdom of taking the Queen's shilling, or following the Witch Doctor. Sad days for all; there are never any victors. Almost all is taken from ethnic Kontakt libraries, save the cracked flugelhorn, from the rather fine Decent Sampler collection. Very little in the way of Fx: my usual Cockos NY drum bus and NY glue, with a dash of ReaDelay for the horn. No mastering; s'not necessary here, just a straight Reaper mix. Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.
  7. I'm sensing here that the bass cab is somehow colouring the bass tone to some large extent; enough to 'justify' adding it to the bass tone from a post-pre or post-power amp signal into a suitable DI. I would gather from this that this specific colouration is both wanted by the bassist (and, by extension, the band...), and is a constant throughout the performance. For my part, I find it strange that one would want the same bass tone for the whole length of the concert or event. It certainly wouldn't be usual for function bands, where a wide variety of styles is the norm. If the cab itself is, indeed, such an important part of the tone, it's going to be very difficult to change for another, as most cabs, whilst having maybe their differences, are designed to colour very little; not enough to make the sound so distinctive as to be essential, I'd have thought. I may be wrong, of course, but I find the notion rather odd, that's all.
  8. I'm not surprised; it's a long-standing 'in joke' between myself and my friend Lenny, based on his extensive use of Fx of all sorts (and more...) in his entries offered for the monthly Basschat Composition Challenge (participation in which I heartily recommend...). As a recently-arrived member to the Forum, it would be surprising if the fruitful flow of our joviality was limpid, but give it some time and you'll soon enough find yourself exchanging equally odd quips, once complicity has been established. Don't fret it; go with the flow.
  9. Do they do a version for right-handed bassists..? ...
  10. Nothing in France that I'm aware of, and nothing likely for a while yet. We (our band...) may try to organise a private concert in our own field/garden, for selected friends for the end of May, but it's far from being a Done Deal, even without weather considerations. Basically, 2021 will pass rather quietly, I reckon, as far as live concerts go, in the main.
  11. Blue will elaborate further, I suspect, but I seem to remember previous posts in which he expounds the virtues of their formation with 'variable geometry'. Depending on the season, they are able to modify the formula, and so are not dependant on just summer festivals or smoky clubs. A good card to be able to play; more power to his elbow (and theirs...).
  12. Good evening, SD, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  13. Where on the neck is this happening..? Below the seventh, I'd probably not be using the third finger much at all. I'd do whatever seems more natural, especially after going through the motions slowly, to see (feel..?) what's best. After that, I'd do as the Experts do : throw my fingers at the fretboard pell-mell and trust to luck. That's what the Experts do; I've seen 'em. However, they seem to be luckier than me. Disclaimer : I'm a drummer.
  14. Good evening, Furym, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  15. Good evening, Jim, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Indeed, no live music of any scale (no pun intended...) on the horizon, just sporadic bookings, which may be cancelled later.
  16. You're both right, of course, but I've strange feeling that our friend Ray is recording everything, all at once, onto one single track in the DAW. I'm happy to be wrong, naturally, but that's the impression I have for now. The methods you're (correctly...) suggesting imply having each instrument on a different track, and editing/mixing/whatever after the event. I'm trusting Ray to get on to that step soon enough, although this has its own pitfalls and issues (playing to a pre-recorded track, latency, timing... whatever...). Slow but sure, I'd say, one step at a time. @RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE : do you record onto separate tracks, or all on one..?
