To drummers, this is almost the equivalent of 'rounds or flats'. or my part, I'll have no truck with 'cut' heads (I've fitted a mic inside the shell, anyway...). If a port is needed, it 'should' be for sonic reasons, not just a convenient way to poke a mic in there. There are pre-ported heads on the market (Evans...) with a foam-surround 5" port. You run the risk, if cutting the port yourself, of 1 - not cutting it at the right spot, acoustically... and 2 - the edges splitting, as it's difficult to cut cleanly a perfect circle with a blade. If I was to port a drum, I'd use an EMAD head. Hope this helps.

Nice gear or not, the principle is the same. Some folk are precious about sharing, others less so. It helps if one knows the other bands, including their style of music. It's very often, for small affairs, run by non-professionals, that there's no space nor time to change a whole backline between acts, so sharing is far more practical. We (as a band...) have often been in both positions, as headliners and support acts, and have no issues with sharing. On the other hand, I play drums 'lefty', so would normally insist that my set be used, even as support band, and that others switch the hi-hat and snare/floor tom to suit them, as my kit is probably the best there on the night. 'breakables' are not shared, though (cymbals, snare, bass drum pedal...). For amps, our bass rig is up for anything (200w Hiwatt valve amp, 2x15 HH cab...). Our First Guitar is rather more difficult, as it's a complex MIDI-driven Mesa 2-90/Triaxis rig, so unless the guitar just wants one, simple straight-through sound, he/she is going to have to have their own pedal board, and not touch the amp at all. We have no qualms about our gear being 'high-end', as we'll be there at all times anyway, and it's all robust, tried-and-tested that has already given us satisfaction for decades. A little charitable spirit for such events helps, too.

I've model aircraft (and their Transmitters...), and need a wide collection of batteries to cover the different configurations, physical size, capacity, charging speed, voltage, weight and more. They all have a common connection system, so only one charger for the lot, and all my 'planes have the same connectors. It's pretty standardised in this domain, except that the usage is so variable. The batteries last a very long time, so it's really not often at all that one needs to change from one to another, so once one has one (or two, if used in rotation...) there's no further requirement for replacing or swapping.

Nominal voltage of a Lithium-Ion cell is 3.6v; a pack of three has a voltage of 11.1. They don't tend to reduce gradually, so that voltage remains until near the end. If pedals can stand the extra volts, then it's just a case of making up a suitable casing and connections, and having a suitable charger, of course. Easy enough for a modellist. They may be a bit bulky compared to PP3, depending on required capacity, but small ones for drones are available. Battery for drone ...

Are those dot scores on the fingerboard..? A bit wide, I think.

Be prepared for a stream of replies; this has been hotly debated (and definitively answered...) several times over the last decade or so. You'll come across a few new terms, maybe, such as 'excursion' or 'heft'; I'll leave it to others to fill in the technical details. Just as a clue, and assuming you have ear-buds (or at least a set of earphones...): do you hear bass through those..? Are they 18"..?

Yes, it's too bold.

I bailed out of bidding, as I'm sure there'll be a run on it, the pitch is so fine.

Oh no..! It's going to be another bloomin' catastrophe..! Why, oh why, are all the compositions this month so good..? How to split the winners..? All those certificates..! Oh no..! -
Oh, I do so hate it when that happens. ...

(And, to avoid any risk, play only a repertoire of Radiohead songs...)

He was on the list at the very first Festival, Godshill, Isle of Wight, in '68. Spectacular, at the time; I have fonder memories of Jefferson Airplane, Fairport Convention and more; well over half a century ago now..!

Why..?

These new picks are an 'opportunity' to learn again how to play guitar, so I'm starting from scratch. Today I did Page Fifteen of Bert Weedon's 'Play in a Day' method, the first playing exercise in the book. Open strings only, down strokes, then up and down, then moving between strings, with a sort of arpeggio thing to finish, across the strings. Tomorrow I'll do the same again then turn the page, the next day again, and so on, with an extra page a day. It's all written on staves, so I may get a bit of reading practise at the same time, which can't hurt. I'm not so sure about the 'Play in a Day' part, unless one gets up very early and skips meals, but the first lesson has gone off quite well, and I didn't drop the plectrum..!

Buying from EU private sellers - 20% VAT from 1 Jan 2021
Dad3353 replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
Buying from individuals inside the EU is the answer, as VAT and duty do not apply to such sales. BC has many such members, and there are other sources, too, such as Ebay, LeBonCoin and many more. -

Yes, import duty and VAT are applied to every item bought, whether from a shop or a private sale. The Seller has to declare the value in the forms filled in for the dispatch.
