  1. They'd have no trouble stealing mine, but who would want to..?
  2. We all have our own ways of assimilating stuff; this (The Hal Leonard way...) is a pretty decent approach for many, and, at its price point, considering the rest of the info in there, is a 'no-brainer', in my view. Yes, there are other methods; the sight reading courses start at around 60€, I think..? Good value too, if the Leonard method didn't click, but as a 'starter', I'd go with the book for a first shot.
  3. Which means it's more or less paid for itself within a month, if hired out every day.
  4. For those with a full Kontakt Vst... I was trawling t'web for Japanese sounds, for this month's Composition Challenge (as one does...), and came across these very nice 'freebies'... Strezov Sampling Freebies... Once 'bought' (for 0€...), there is a Downloader to be er... downloaded; the running of which brings the Kontakt files and 'installs' them. I then move these files to their correct places on my System. Quality sounds, obviously limited in scope for major use (they're 'freebies'..!), but the other products proposed seem darned excellent, too, although more expensive than I have budget for at the moment. Still, a worthy find, which, I'm sure, will feature in my next composition. I've retained the address for other products for later on.
  5. An emphatic, unequivocal, 'Yes'..! I recommend the spiral-bound Complete Edition, which lays flat. I have many bass, guitar, piano and drum methods; the Hal Leonard ranks as best of bunch in its approach and completeness. Buy with confidence; it's not even expensive..! Complete Edition, Spiral-bound, Amazon ...
  6. Currently unavailable there, but we Mods have our own stocks...
  7. This poor dead horse has been soooooo flogged... This is its last in this topic; I shall start culling forthwith any future stuff of the sort.
  8. Our 2nd guitar/keys has just bought a Zoom H1/MB. It has several sensitivity settings, and the first sessions we did with it, the results were very low. This didn't affect the quality of the sound at all; there's no need these days to record at 0db. Once normalised, our sessions sounded fine; certainly no distortion from the Zoom. Inexpensive and easy to use; worth a look..?
  9. It's a sure-fire putter-offer, recording one's own voice; even for an answering machine..! Very few people can stand the sound of their own voice played back to 'em. The ideal is never to listen, I suppose..!
  10. I pretty much gave up ages ago; too many erudite keyboard furies for my poor fingers to match..! Very late at night (or early morning...) I can be tempted, but I'm not thinking my best then either, so...
  11. Yes, I see the resemblance, now that you mention it.
  12. For the use you're putting 'em to, it'll work just fine. They mention 'V'-guitars; they could just as easily have listed most guitars, amps and speakers. They work less well on some guitars with recessed jack sockets, such as Strats and the like (or speaker cabs with recessed plates...). They are not suitable for high-power speaker loads (no jacks are...); Speakon connectors are preferable for connections over 200w or so (although some older amps and cabs had jack connectors...).
  13. My apologies, I wouldn't want my ignorance to create a problem for anyone. I'll gladly bow to your evident expertise in the matter; thanks for the correction. Would you advise, if the floor needed recovering, covering over, or biting the bullet and getting the experts in to remove 'em..? I'm assuming that they're perfectly safe whilst left alone, is that right..? I suppose that, in the event of a house sale, this kind of issue would have to be declared to any potential buyers..? I found this site to be interesting and informative on the (limited...) subject of domestic asbestos ... Asbestos Floor Tiles ...
  14. Best to not disturb 'em, then; maybe lay over 'em if a change is needed..? If they are there from before 1980, they may contain asbestos; if not they won't as that's when the chop came.
  15. As permanent storage, basses on the floor may not be the best option, but for a photo shoot, I can't see the problem. I doubt that the tiles are asbestos, either; these were abandoned many years ago (and are harmless, in any case if left undisturbed...). Just sayin'.
  16. Mono 1/4" jack straight to right-angle adapteur...
  17. 50 kms south of Paris (Fontainebleau...), so a faire trot, but Skype is an option, it seems. Good solid stuff.
  18. Ordered, unseen. D.A.Holwill is recommendation enough. Amazon review will follow (good or not so good..! )
  19. Have you changed the battery for the piezo lately..? It has both an active and a passive mode; to run at its best it'll need the battery to be fresh, and in active mode. Worth a thought..?
  20. Thanks for the congrats, folks, but I must offer an apology this month. I'm not well right now, and haven't been following too closely; indeed, I've not even voted, myself..! May I suggest that the current 'second ' ( @upside downer ...) take the top spot (I'd have voted for that one, which would have brought on a tie, anyway...)..? I'll get around to doing the usual Certificate later, in both our names, but I'm really not up to it right now, and wouldn't want to put too much of a damper on the Challenge, which is doing splendidly, with, as has been mentioned, much talented creation from old hands and newer faces. Copy to @lurksalot and @Skol303 for validation; I hope this meets with your satisfaction. No worries; I'll be back with more of my stuff as soon as I can.
