  1. OK, so I'm stuffed then, eh..? ~#+-* mumble mumble *#~+. If it helps, I can give you a UK address, when the time comes...
  2. I've, provisionally, a bass programmed for later on this year, when cross-channel transport becomes more reasonable, so I'm not in 'need' before maybe June or July. No rush, lad (but before DB5, just the same..! ).
  3. Get in line, please. You'll get yours after I've received mine. ... ('cos mine got lost in the post, and there's been none available since ...)
  4. That's probably a Good Thing, for composers in general. In this case, after a single listen-through, he's right to feel a little nervous. Unfounded, really, as the opus stands up on its merits; most of the criticism stemming from the genre and personal taste, rather than its existence. I'm a drummer, so found it a bit difficult (no, rather too 'edgy'...), as it's properly composed (for the genre...), but executed too mechanically, with 'artificial' variances. It's true, though, that some drummers do play like that, so... Not keen on the incessant insistance of the beat in general, but it fits the subject. I'm not a great fan of 'riffs', so maybe not the best judge of music in this vein; the bloke has done well, and I did manage to listen all the way through (not always the case with me..!). It won't go into my collection, but, then again, I didn't buy the Gojira disks, either. Good luck to the fellow. He gets a 'Thumb's up'.
  5. Indeed; I've hardly started, myself. Be aware that 'anything' does not include bagpipes, naturally. (It's a running gag. There's not much really serious about this Challenge; it's just for fun...)
  6. Certainly, old chum. It's not really that much more complicated than the few explanatory lines of the very first post in this topic, but, to elaborate just the same... The general idea is to find inspiration from the picture, which has been chosen by the previous 'winner' (that's to say: got the most votes, although, everyone is a 'winner', really ... ). The composition can be in any genre, played with any instruments, real or virtual (so not just bass, although it can be..!). Recorded by any means available, however modest, by yourself (although backing vocals, 'guest' band members, passing refuse truck etc... are tolerated...). The composition must be in the current month, and the resulting file would normally be posted on Soundcloud (it's free, for modest use of the sort...), before the closing date, which is normally about a week before end of month. Once closed, a 'Voting' topic is posted, inviting BassChatters to vote for their favourite(s), and at month's end, a winner is declared. Not much more to add. The absolute quality of playing the production quality, the instruments used... None of that is of great matter, as the 'judging' is based on the aptness of the music to the picture (at least in theory, although the criteria behind the voting is up to the voters, in truth...). Maybe the simplest would be for you to have a look at the picture, see what comes to mind, musically, and record something..? Offer it up and see what comes of it. What's the worst that can happen, eh..? It won't be any worse than what Lenny bungs up every month, and my own are often enough complete and utter 'flops', so you'll be in excellent company. Give it a go, lad. You know it makes sense.
  7. Blur..? What is this 'Blur'..? Is it a 'thing'..? Hmm...
  8. Good evening, Eloo , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. (But take the tablets. Yes, the ones that nice doctor gave you. No, not those other ones; throw them out. Just the doctor's ones. Please. )
  9. Good evening, Philip, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  10. I may have missed something here. I was under the impression that, prior to leaving the EU, a whole bunch of laws and regulations were transferred en masse into UK legislation. Was this aspect not on the list..? Was it not even discussed somewhere..?
  11. All of the functionality you mention and more besides, are what make the ToonTrack stuff so User-friendly. EZ-Drummer, Superior Drummer 2, and 3 even more so, make this type of customisation a doddle (that's exactly what I use when making up a personised kit...). There are a few others that allow mods and sample-loading (M-Drummer, BFD..?), but, in general, the less one pays, the less one is able to do this easily, if at all. I find it difficult to not recommend Superior Drummer 3 for those serious about virtual drums, either through a DAW or an electro-pad kit. At just under £300, it's reasonable; its little brother , EZ-Drummer 2, is good value at just over £100. There are far more expensive kits, too, but my budget (and my proficiency ...) don't stretch that far.
  12. 'Creative accounting'..? S'not like a domestic, personal debt; much of these things are Big Business, virtual finances (stocks and shares valuations, for instance, or property ownership valuations...). Magic Money Trees abound.
  13. Here's a screenshot of the Cockos Sampler. I've loaded a single bass drum WAV (from an Alesis kit...), which I can play with a MIDI signal. I'd have to repeat this n number of times for each velocity required, and for each kit piece, for each drum kit, and match each one to its MIDI command. It can be done, probably, and, in years gone by, that's how it was done, but no longer, unless one is very, very nostalgic...
  14. It does samples, but only one at a time, so setting up a whole dynamic range for a snare, for instance, would be a chore. Rinse and repeat for the whole kit and it becomes less attractive. I used to use an Atari 1040 for sampling, back in the day, and the 'technology' then was excellent, and considered to be 'cutting edge', but it doesn't cut the mustard when compared to stuff like KVLT drums, or EZ-Drummer. Doing a drum set, to any reasonable standard, would take far longer with the Cockos sampler; pure folly, and simply bloody-minded, these days. It has its uses, and is very good, but not for programming drums. (OK, maybe a 'one-shot' EDM 'One-One-One' 'bass drum, but I don't call that 'programming a drum kit'. ...). SM Drums, for instance use sixty samples per snare, and thirty-two for a bass drum. One kit is over four hundred samples. It all mounts up very quickly; I've sampled my own Camco kit, but use Superior Drums for handling its integration in my compositions or playing the electronic kit.
  15. Big savings indeed, if one was going to buy these at the 'top' price anyway; otherwise, not really a 'saving' at all. Just sayin'. ...
  16. 20% VAT applied to the HT price + shipping (if there is a shipping cost...) plus, maybe, a handling charge. Best to wait for 'real-life' examples, though before jumping to over-hasty conclusions. More expensive..? Maybe, by a little, but perhaps still less so than sourcing in the UK, if the item is even available in the UK. All speculation for now, really. We'll know more in a few week's time; I'll wait till then before pronouncing doom and gloom or la vie en rose.
  17. Good afternoon, John, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. (But you knew all that anyway, didn't you..? )

    Morning.

Good morning, Darryll, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Remember you..? I should coco..! Sorry, but I can't even remember what I had for breakfast, so...
  19. I've not had their offer yet, but I'll accept three bob, or half-a-crown if they baulk.
  20. If you're playing along to a backing track whilst recording, the audio will be in sync. Reaper is also a pretty decent video editor for doing the kind of stuff you seem to want, and can 'line up' an audio track with no problems. Good luck with your projects; there's plenty of folks here that can answer questions.
  21. Good evening, Jamie, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
