  1. ... and in less time than it takes to actually play this short track, 'Naomi' finds it 'awesome', and wants to give it worldwide exposure..! I've not bothered to find out how much this promotion would cost me..!
  2. Here is my contribution to the November 2020 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: Upside Downer..! Modern Times, indeed; this is an interpretation of Electronica, whereby things will buzz and whirr up close, then fade away. We should no longer be surprised by what we encounter in our daily promenades; just be thankful that, for the moment, Little Green Men are not among us (or are they..?). No batteries were harmed in the making of this piece. I often use these occasions to try out new stuff I've acquired, and here there is double innovation. All the tracks were played on my tiny Keystation keyboard, triggering a new (to me...) Iris 2 synth, from Izotope. The drum track was, for the first time, played 'live' on my electronic kit, triggering Superior Drums 3; one take, no editing, and so warts'n'all. Mixed in Reaper (what else..?), with a smattering of Ozone and Rich presets as 'polish'. Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.
  3. I'm trying it out now, seeing what I can come up with for this month's Composition Challenge. S'looking good, so far, so well pleased with my 'purchase'. Will it do well in the Challenge..? Given its qualities, it could well do, but given mine, it's rather more doubtful. Well worth twice the price I paid, though.
  4. I agree, The Band are excellent. They raised the game for Dylan on many occasions, too. I can't help hearing 'Knocking On Heaven's Door', here.

    Hello

Good afternoon, (can I call you 'Al'..?), and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  6. There's not much 'objectivity' in discussions of the sort, by the very nature of the subject, I'd say. As for his (NY...) output, I've not gone out of my way to search for much, as what I've come across, from the 'Crosby' days on, has been, at best and with generosity, patchy. A passable acoustic player, modest singing voice and shocking electric guitar, there's not much left save some of the poetry, much of which I find mawkish and trite (subjectively, naturally...). As for the 'live' stuff, it's painful to watch, and more so to hear, more so still to try to listen to. Maybe I've just been unlucky, and seen only the bad video and film work. Maybe. To be fair, I'm comparing against giants, so it's difficult to maintain credibility in such company. I'll spare you the list. I've nothing against the fellow, personally, and I'm sure he'd not be offended by my remarks; he's definitely not even close to being one of my 'heroes', though; sorry.
  7. Sorry, lads, for the participation. I'll best keep my lowly head below the parapet then, eh..? Discuss..? Hmm...
  8. Neil Young..? Rank..? Now there's something that I could agree with.
  9. Thanks for that; I was stuck on 6 Down : Mis-spelt number puzzle (6...), begins with 'SO....'
  10. Now there, you're spoiled for choice. I've half a dozen from several BC members (in fact, every one I've seen announced..!), with never a deception, and many a Good Read. A 'No-Brainer'.
  11. Don't be fooled, and Mo is a top-of-the-line bass player to boot. S'not about guitars. A great read.
  12. Mo Foster's "17 Watts', updated to ... British Rock Guitar ... A great read.
  13. It is said that 'All Roads Lead To Rome'. In that light, have a nice trip.
  14. The Install procedure asks if a Custom or Default install is wanted; I chose Custom and gave the drive/folder the data was to go to. I also gave the path to my Vst folder. Why an external SDD..? Is that especially fast or something..? Just curious.
  15. That's good to hear, and obviously I don't know the person at all. Just the same, and including much of the posts above, I don't see why the basics of learning an instrument have not been mentioned. It's fine working with patterns and muscle memory, but that really isn't the easy way forward, except for playing a four-note riff for a little while, then giving up. Do you do any exercises at all which use notes, in whatever form, such as scales, intervals or chord tones..? They really are the keys to playing music, and help enormously in training the ear, so as to be able to 'play by ear'. There's nothing wrong with learning a favourite 'lick', but that's really only for fun, once the real learning for the day has been done, as a reward, or 'instant satisfaction'. Just sayin'; maybe I'm just too old.
  16. I must say that I'm not overly impressed by the tutoring you're receiving, to judge by the dialogue above... Playing tunes and songs is fine, and is, indeed, the End Game, but learning to play a musical instrument (any musical instrument...) should, in my view, imply somewhere learning Music. All those frets, strings, numbers and patterns are crutches. Useful, when one is disabled, but not an ideal means of locomotion. It may be helpful to start thinking of the bass as a means of playing notes, rather than patterns. Learn where the notes are (yes, where's the 'E'..? then the 'F' etc..). Name and play those notes on each string. Learn and listen to Intervals (start with the easy ones: thirds, fifths...), and play them on each string, from each starting note. Learn and play chord notes... All of this, and much more, will make progress much, much faster. Keep playing tunes and songs, but start with very, very simple ones, and name each and every note as you're playing them. The fastest way to learn how to play is to do it all very slowly, moving on only once each step is taken. I would have thought that most good tutors did things this way. Bert Weedon had it right.
  17. Good afternoon, cobber Carl, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
