  1. Good evening, Rich, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  2. I had, back then, no money at all for tapes such as Ampex; all my stuff is budget and lower, with just a few Scotch or Philips reels. None of them have become unplayable, despite their low cost and the very 'iffy' storage they've 'enjoyed'. I wouldn't know how to 'bake' a reel, so wouldn't even try.
  3. Hope it works out OK (stop biting your nails; that won't help..! ) I may have dodged a bullet there. I must be lucky, as none of my tapes are beyond listening, despite the very hard life they've had.
  4. Well, if they'd contented themselves to a still picture, I might have spent a few moments appreciating those a bit more. Never mind; maybe I'm just cantankerous.
  5. I have replies to remarks of the sort, but the cuss filter would likely remove them. Being a Mod doesn't stop me having an opinion, nor from posting comment, 'humorous' or otherwise. Lighten up, lad; lighten up.
  6. Good afternoon, Thomas, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  7. Sorry if this is redundant, but it may be fitting to explain my use of these graphic thingies. The '' indicates 'tongue in cheek', usually, or, on occasion, 'Whatever'. The '...' is a pause for effect, followed by a '' to suggest laughing (as at a joke...), and a cheeky '', to show that it's a 'leg-pull'. Hope this helps.
  8. Does this include leather shoes or belts..? Mammouth ivory..? 'Lucky' rabbit's feet..? Tortoiseshell combs..? ...
  9. Now look here, my Good Man. If Skol sees fit to add you to the poll, you'll get votes, whether it pleases you or not..! And if you want lessons in 'maverick', you've come to the right place. (Ain't that right, Lenny..?). Of course, if you happen to win, or even get more votes than my entry, that'll be a different ball game, and I'll call 'Foul..!' quickly enough..! T'any rate, @Skol303 is probably asleep by now, so...
  10. @Skol303 may be able to squeeze this in, as the polling has only just been posted.
  11. Good afternoon, Malcolm, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  12. Yes, but 'wings of steel and fabric' won't scan in the song.
  13. Ahem..! Budd RB Conestoga ... Bristol BAC188 ...
  14. A Clubman like this (but in white...) was my first bass. The original tuners were much smaller (probably guitar tuners that Vox used for everything at the time...). The output jack on these is not a standard 1/4" jack socket, so a special lead is needed to plug it in to an amp. A very short scale, so well-fitting strings are not so easy to come by. As for value: we don't do valuations on this Forum, but be aware that, unless it interests a Collector, they are not much in demand, and were extremely inexpensive when new (mine cost £20, new, late '60s...). Mostly curiosity value, really, more than as a musical instrument; they're not very good, as basses. Only worth working on for sentimental or novelty value, or as a wall ornament. Hope this helps.
  15. Good evening, Hans, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  16. Factoid : I was born in Norwich (True; I still have the accent ...).
  17. Drummers..? Dunno, but here's some mustard drums ...
  18. I shall be sure to Bisto them, Sir.
  19. Yes, and Pink Floyd, especially Syd Barrett's time with 'em.
  20. You mean it's become mustard and crass..?
