  1. No problem for me, transferring to digital; I've dozens of similar tapes from 'back then' (fifty years ago; where did the time go..?). The only issue is delivering it (to France...) and sending it back. If you can get it to me, I'm equipped to deal with it. Of course, if there's others closer to home, go for it, but it's a doddle, for those with a suitable reel to reel and an interface.
  2. We're going back quite a way, and these mentions of my stomping grounds of the day are very welcome. We lived in Bedfont (stop sniggering at the back there; s'not my fault ...). I'm old, so I don't remember the name of the 'shop' down the alleyway off Staines High Street, by the railway bridge, but we bought Cathedral strings there, and picks (well, my brother did; I could never work out how to play with a pick...). ABC Addlestone was an Aladdin's cave on the few occasions we went there, after having visited the Watkins place in Chertsey. I remember ABC for having done a trade with them, of a pair of Hiwatt 50 cabs for a complete Hiwatt 200w PA (four 'fridge' cabs and a DR205 valve head...). Bloomin' heavy stuff, but a glorious sound. A bit earlier, and further afield, was the strange 'front room/parlour' shop at Hampton Hill, run, I think, by a certain Mrs Nicholls (spelling..?). I bought my first Hofner there (President Thinline, single Florentine cutaway; should never have parted with it...). I also saw, for the first time, a Verithin bass hanging on the wall. Sadly, the poor thing was concave; completely caved in, probably having suffered from damp or water damage. A splendid beast, utterly destroyed. I've since acquired a Good One (hanging on the wall behind me as I type...), but often wonder what became of that one. Kingston, too, and Surbiton, but memory is failing as to what, exactly, we bought there. We weren't well off, so not much, that's for sure..! Happy daze.

    Hallo

Good evening, Howard, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  4. Oddly enough, Superior Drums 3 has gone to great pains to reproduce controllable bleed between pieces of the kit..! Much music can be recorded using only three drum mics, too. I'm not saying that a de-bleeder has no uses (I've never tried one...); just that I find it strange to consider it 'essential'. No issue, we're just different, s'all..!
  5. Depends on the actual needs, but if it's going into a DAW, it would be mixed there, probably. Different for 'live' use, naturally.
  6. This is going to our 'Basschat's Famous Quotes' thread..!
  7. Bowie did spend quite some time in Berlin, so maybe there's a link there..?
  8. It would be wise to decide... How many simultaneous inputs..? How many of these inputs need to be mic inputs..? How many of these inputs need to supply phantom power (condenser mics, notably, or DI boxes...) Do any inputs need 'insert' capability (for inserting treatment and/or Fx pre-DAW...) How many 'aux' channels may be required (either for adding Fx, or for providing monitoring to the players...) Sorry if this confuses things; there are probably more Important Points I've overlooked. Hope this helps.
  9. Here's a few; take your pick ... Thomann '6 or more-i/p' USB interfaces ...
  10. Emphasis on the 'should'. I managed (in the end...) to d/l the SVX, but can't now get the other packages that need upgrading, such as my Philharmonik, or SampleTank. Someone got paid far too much for having 'designed' this web site and d/l system. It's a shame, as the products themselves are good (or even very good...), but, to get the latest version, I'd have much less hassle using a torrent site. No qualms; I've paid for the stuff anyway, but it's a poor show, and a darned pity.
  11. Yes, until I ran out and threw 9" nails instead.
  12. It finally arrived intact, and got installed. I can open it, and use it, as 'stand-alone' or through Reaper. I could also import my presets from the previous version, which I've had for... Well, even longer than that, it turns out. However, the presets I use need one of the Custom Shop amps (HiAmp; virtual Hiwatt...), which I have, and which works well in Amplitube 3. Not so for this new, improved, whiter-than-white SVX version. It now tells me that I need to pay for another Custom Shop HiAmp, for 20€..! Bloomin' cheek, I say. I'll not be using this new version for much, as my previous version, with its Custom Shop HiAmp emulation, was one of the key features that I've already paid for, for both my guitar and bass recordings. Never mind. (What do you mean, you sound p'ed off..? You betcha I'm p'ed off, after having spent some of yesterday evening and much of today rolling this Sisyphean stone up this interminable mountain, only to have it get stuck in a rut, quite near the top. P'ed off ain't the term..! I'm ... Well, disgruntled may be a polite way of expressing how I'm feeling towards these $*à€*+%$¤¤*µ @秧§ so-and-so's. And I mince my words. Bah..! Humbug..!
  13. Good evening, Ash, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  14. Good evening, Filobassisto , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  15. Update : Yay..! It's finally got here..! I'll think twice about updating my Philharmonik and Sampletank stuff, though..! Too soon for joy. Winzip tells me ... J:\Zeek_Soft\Vst\IK Multimedia\Amplitube_4 & SVX\AmpliTube_4_Windows_(4.10.0B).zip: Unexpected end of archive ... so it can't install..! I suppose I'll have to download it again..!
  16. Ah, yes..! And I threw stones..! Happy daze.
  17. I don't remember what I had for supper last night, let alone 'a long time ago'..!
  18. Good afternoon, Mikey, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  19. Update... It's winging along now at 40 KB/s; only two hours left to go..! Jealous, me..?
  20. Better today; hovering around the 24-30 KB/s, so only four hours to go...
  21. Good evening, David, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  22. I'm already signed in to the IK Multimedia site from previous offers, but still have hoops to jump through to get this 'freebie'. It's now authorised, but needs to download, through just about the slowest port one could imagine on t'web these days. Current download speed : about 14 KB/s. S'gonna take hours. Still, it's free, I suppose. Nah, it's getting slower still (how is that possible..? '5 days left' prediction for downloading 450 Mb..!). I'll come back to this another day (or week...). It would appear that their main server is a ZX81.
