Here we go, then, hoping that this is in the spirit of this month's Challenge ... Concert 'Chez l'Habitant' for a charity (can't remember which one, or several...). A cold, somewhat damp underfloor garage, sparse but enthusiastic public, fans of Radiohead, which was nice. Filmed and recorded with two Sony Handicams; one ran out before the end, this was the last song of our first set (of two...). Enjoy.

Mutual agreement between the five of us, with privilege given to my need to have a couple of less up-beat numbers between the raucous ones (it's a stamina thing, coupled with advancing years...). We also group guitar changes and drop tunings, if they fit the previous priority, and try not to have all the Radiohead stuff clumped together. S'been working well for the last twenty-odd tears, and is not likely to change any time soon.

Dpd picked up a 13kg parcel (an amp...) from our home, out in the sticks, rural France (Lower Normandy...) on Thursday afternoon. It was delivered, safe and sound, by Dpd on Sunday morning to my brother in Shepperton, Surrey. According to the tracking info, it was still in France the next day..! The total cost, door to door, was 37€39, thanks to the Basschat 10% discount from EuroSender. Many thanks for setting that up, Ped. Very satisfied, no quibbles about shipping stuff from me.

Hmmmm... Yaaaaaaaawn...! What what what..? Did someone call..? Oh, sorry. I had a long night, printing Winner's Certificates 'n stuff. What was that again..? Eh..? And speak up; I'm deaf, y'know.

It's all Rikki's fault..! If he'd only voted for three, there's a good chance that he'd have chosen Lurks's opus (as he has good taste...), and we wouldn't be in this embarrassing situation..! I'll fight it out with Lurks for next month's picture (although, often enough, Skol comes up with a 'Christmas Special', so we'll see...). Watch this space ...

Question: At what point in the Order process does one get to enter the 'BASSCHAT10' discount code..? I've a 13kg package to send from France to UK, and have a quoted price, but nowhere to enter the code. Anyone done this successfully, please..? Thanks in advance.

Why does your band charge more for parties/events..? What do you do that's different..? If it's been booked as a 'pub gig', play what you'd play for a pub gig, no..?

There's a Life Lesson in there, somewhere. I always start as soon as I get any sort of 'inspiration' from the month's chosen picture, and, once started, have to finish it. This explains to a great extent why I'm often (not always, but often...) the first to post an entry, and also why my all-too-hastily cobbled together offerings are consistently of such mediocre quality. It's also sadly true that me taking much more time over these pieces would inevitably lead to works of even lower finish, such is my level of ability. The moral, if moral there be, would be to strike early whilst the iron's hot, but not miss and hit one's thumb (which hurts...).

I've bought several BC-members works, but always in physical form. I've never bought anything in 'streaming' form, mainly 'cos I'm old and set in my ways.

They've delivered stuff to me, here in France, with no bother, and were (slightly...) more advantageous than Thomann. I'd deal with 'em again with no hesitation.

A Masterpiece ^^ (yet again..!). I really must try harder to write liriks lyriques lirricks some words, and get our singster to warble 'em. (The '^^' referred to Lurks's work, not my own, of course. Modesty forbid..!)

Here is my contribution to the November 2019 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: Lurksalot. Some reminiscing on past glories in her more senior years, musing on a very well-known theme. It is customary to stand for this piece, but I'll not insist upon that in this form (Can you see what it is yet..?) The structure is not quite as one might expect, being arranged as 'stretched' 3/4 bars in 3/4 time. The baseline composition was given over to BIAB for the skeleton, the bones of which are still in there, but behind several washes of differing textures, floating in and out, some to LFO waves. A Ruby bass, of course, Superior 2 drums, a Kontakt classical guitar, various keys, brass and strings all add flesh to the edifice. Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.

There must be a joke in there somewhere..!

38,000,000 is a number. Chin up; all the best. -
I'll miss your dulcet tones. Good luck with the sessions.

In 'stereo' mode (or, in your case, two distinct mono channels...), if one amp fails, the other keeps going. In 'bridge' mode, if either amp fails, the whole PA fails. In reality there's little chance of that, so, just for simplicity's sake, I'd keep the 'stereo' mode, and be able to set the volume level separately at each side (useful in an asymmetric stage set-up, for instance...),which 'bridge' mode won't allow, either. Phonically, for the audience, there's no perceived difference. 'Bridge' mode would be useful if expanding the PA, doubling the speakers, for instance, and adding a second, equivalent, amp, as it permits getting the full power from the amp, to drive one side of the new PA rig. Hope this helps; subject to completion, correction and/or contradiction from others.

Who said that..? Is there someone there..? I'm sorry, I can't see in this dark room with my eye-shades on. What..? What's that..? Oh, the pain has almost gone, but the thumping at the back of the skull keeps fading back . My own fault..? Oh, yes, I now know, at my own cost, why I dislike so intensely that Big Beat Disco 'Thump..! Thump..! Thump..!' No, no, leave me; leave me now, please. It's all starting again..! Good gracious, will it never cease..? One, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one, one,

I'd suggest that the most inexpensive, and very effective, method is to have everyone, singer and drummer included, using headphones. It doesn't sound too 'rock'n'roll', maybe, but needs must etc. The physics of it are simple enough; sound is changing air pressures. If no air can leave the room (and none enter, so problem..!), that's a start. Next is the floor, wall and ceiling themselves vibrating, transmitting the air pressure changes inside to sound outside. To stop this, one needs to absorb the energy inside, and that means mass. An extreme would be to play inside a WWII bunker; that's the 'logic' one is looking at. It can be done fairly cheaply (all is relative, isn't it..?), but becomes very quickly industrial, with inner 'Russian doll' rooms of breeze blocks. Complete phonic isolation from the outside world is a Big Deal, so limits would have to be set on what's achievable with whatever budget is available. Headphones then become rather more attractive (to those paying, at least...) Hope this helps; Good Luck with the very worthy project.

Done (but it's certainly not BC's finest. There's a right lot of old carp in there ...)
