  1. I'd oblige, but s'not up to me, buddy. It's that there Skol505 wot decides about pictures and wot-have-you. I'd advise sending him a pic just the same, compo or not, and we'll see wot comes of it. Supposing U-D comes up with the same excuses, eh..? Then where would we be, I ask you..? Look, you won, right..? OK, jointly, but won just the same. Send your picture in, sharpish, before the Boss loses patience and we have to employ... [ehum...] other tactics. Do your duty, be a man, grow a pair et al.We wouldn't want any... [ehum...] accidents, now would we..? You know it makes sense. ...

  3. Here is my contribution to the July 2019 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: myself..! It may be apparent that there is a definite Chorale element to this merry opus; after all, that's what the picture shows us, with the added bonus of featuring Our Daughter in the photo..! A tapestry of sound, woven with wefts of many hues, mixing Philharmonik and other choirs with Kontakt backing singers, plus Alter Ego solo voices scanding lyrics of sorts (given below, just the same...). Not much profound poetry in there, I'm afraid, but 'interesting' interplays occur for brief moments, to my cloth ears at least. The only instrument is a Roland piano. Each track has its own specific treatment, consisting of relevant Cockos compression and EQ, and occasional Neutrino polish. The whole is NY bussed, then Ozoned into submission. Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy. Lyrics ... Please sing this short text for me (now...) 11. Here is my contribution to the June 2019 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: Fingers211. A Regal Romp, with a touch of Suspense in parts. Assembled from a wide selection of samples from various sources, suitably adjusted for tempo, pitch etc with Reaper. Litttle treatment, just a basic 'NY Glue' for the instruments, another for the drum tracks, and a final bit of 'tu*d polishing' with Ozone. Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy.
  12. ... and there I wuz, politely 'following' the previous Voting topic, waiting patiently for announcement of the June Challenge. ... Never mind; I'm here now. Now then, what comes to mind. Regal theme..? Court Jester..? Suspense..? Ah yes, Suspense... How to evoke Suspense without Scottish Skirling, eh..? Hmm... [Sits down, stroking beard, trying to imagine a Pipe Band marching towards a steep cliff-top edge, oblivious of the danger, when suddenly...]
  13. [Interlude Music, while we wait...] 'Misty', Composed by Erroll Garner, spoilt somewhat by my 'Lift Musak' arrangement. Sorry, Mr Garner.

  15. Here is my contribution to the May 2019 Basschat Composition Challenge, inspired by a picture chosen by the previous winner: myself. There's been a 'Spinal Tap' moment in the ordering of a stage prop, a Fallen Angel, in polystyrene. The sketch showed millimetres, they've understood 'metres'. The resulting stage prop is rather cumbersome... Stitched together in Reaper, of course, using 'phone Fx (a period-correct coin-operated call box, a spot of nostalgia for the older listener; incomprehensible clattering for the youngsters...), a distant backing track of my creation, and my own dulcet tones in the role of The Caller. The tiniest smidgin of treatment, and that's all. The text of the dialogue is below... Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy. Hello..? Hello..? Acme Polystyrene Models..? Could you put me through to the modeling department, please..? Yes, I'll hold... Yes, I'd like to speak with Mr Barnes, the manager, please. Yes, I'll hold... Mr Barnes..? Oh, OK; I'll hold on... Mr Barnes..? Yes, thank you; quite well. We do have a little problem, though, which you may be able to help us with. Yes, that's right; the Fallen Angel. Yes, for the rock group. The stage prop. Yes, that's the one. What's the problem..? It's quite simple; I just wanted to check some details before you start production. What's that..? You've started..? Ah, I see. Ah yes; that's what I'm 'phoning about. You see, our Bass Player, who came up with the idea, sent you a sketch, I believe, of the Fallen Angel. Yes, I understand that you've received it... Hold on a second, Mr Barnes; I'm afraid there seems to have been a misunderstanding. The dimensions that the Bass Player put on his sketch were in millimeters. Yes, the head would be sixty millimetres high. Sixty metres..? Isn't that rather bulky..? A twenty-story building..? Ha ha..! Just as well you've not started... Oh, you have started... And you made how many..? Thirty..? Where are they all..? What..? All blown away..? Too lightweight..? Oh, of course; polystyrene. Yes, that makes sense... There's one remaining..? Finished..? Tethered..? Yes, of course; I'll send the tour bus round straight away to pick it up. A trailer..? Several trailers..? Helicopters..? I don't know about that; I'll see if anyone in the band has one available. No, no; just send the invoice to the production company, as usual. They'll sort out the finance. Thank you, Mr Barnes; it's been a pleasure. Are you coming to the concert this evening..? No..? Oh, I see. Well, thanks again; I'll get the Fallen Angel picked up right away. Goodbye.
  16. And if we just got on with the composing, eh..? ...
  17. I fear the worst.
  18. Thanls, folks. An honour, against such worthy contenders. PM sent, to get the May Challenge going...

  20. Voted. Difficult choice, as usual; the difference, and tipping point, was the use of the 'big beat' half-way through, of which I'm allergic. Other than that, I'd have voted for all four. Good Stuff, all.
  21. Don't tell me, let me guess... The one in the pink dress..?
  22. You are the Grateful Dead and I claim my £5..!
