This will do what you want... Behringer UMC404HD... ... for less than £100. We use Motu stuff for recording multi-mic (full band, with drums...), with the Traveler, for example, but it costs over £700. Is it worth the difference..? Probably not, for the experiments you're doing. The Behringer would be fine.

This ^^ could also be explained by difference in fret material, perhaps..?

It's the trem; it's always the trem..! ... No, really; tuners, even cheapish ones, are rarely that duff, but trems are a dark science from another dimension. If the recipient is not a 'Shadows' fan, I'd suggest 'hard-tailing' it; that, at least, will show up any failings in the tuners..! Cut a cork to suit and jam the trem at its stops; that'll make the guitar playable. Trems, eh..? Whoever thought they were a Good Idea..? Generous indeed, on your part too, I'd say.

For balance, it could be said that recording, itself, has some not small responsibility in this. It's not been all that long that the only way to enjoy music at all was either to go to a 'live' show or play it oneself. Sheet music has been available for quite while, but being able, even to hear what any artist was like, still less imitate them, was a Rare Thing before Edison and the like rang the changes. Just sayin'.

One tip on 'one finger per fret' exercises (from a drummer, so you can trust me..! ) is to start the exercises from the octave, playing up the neck, and start down one fret (so the 11th...) only when you're comfy with 'em from the octave. Repeat the exercises till comfy, then down another fret. and so on ... Before long, you'll be at the first fret, no bother. Taking things slowly is the fastest way, so take your time; you're young yet.

I watched this, quite content to follow the joke, although the 'spoof' seemed to lack a bit of (well, a lot of ...) the Spinal Tap magic. This evening, I thought to check, and am amazed to find that it's not at all a joke; that they were, apparently, briefly famous (I've never heard of 'em, but what would I know..?), and that there really was a reunion gig..! The laugh's on me, I suppose. As a 'real' film, I don't think it stacks up at all. Maybe for fans of 'em..? I'd have been better served by not checking and continuing to take it as a spoof..!
