  1. Wot, the original, or this spoof..?
  2. I'd suggest starting here ... Hal Leonard Bass Method ... Seriously; start from the beginning, as you'll reach the end far more quickly that way. I'm not sure how easy it'd be to get lessons from a bass tutor, too. The way to run fast is to start walking slowly, then (slowly...) speed up. Hope this helps.
  3. More information would be needed in order to get a coherent reply. Reading 'dots' can be a pleasure in itself, without ever having had to do it in any gig situation (it's my case...). There are equally so many manuscripts, methods and transcriptions to learn from that justify in themselves the acquisition of this skill. In many 'rock' situations, I'd say that it's rare, or even extremely rare, to have any written support given; at best a few chords. For studio work, as a session player, it would be more common, but not systematic. In theatre, show or 'pit' work, or orchestral formations, it would be much more common, and, in some cases, obligatory to be able to, not only 'read', but to 'sight read', which is a different level of skill. Which of these (and other...) objectives you may have will dictate the utility of making the 'effort' to do it. What are you intending to use this for..?
  4. Good afternoon, Armin , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. I listened to the track that you linked; if that's you, I'm afraid you can't be heard for the racket that other bass player is playing. If, on the other hand, that's a track that you want to play along to, I'd recommend something a little more 'staid' (less lively, with less chord changes...) for starting out. We could propose several methods for taking the first steps in bass playing if you so wish. You haven't indicated your locality. If you've not spoken English in ten years, this would suggest Norfolk; am I wrong..? Hope this helps...
  5. I think that means that he's trying to communicate using a 'phone with 'predictive text'..! (It's been edited since ...)
  6. No, no; stop it, please..! I know it's only short, but I couldn't watch all the way through; it hurts too much to laugh like that. I can only type this after waiting for the tears to clear. Thanks, but it's all too much.
  7. Good evening, Prime , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Sincere condolences.
  8. Good evening, BW , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  9. Yes, I had a swift reply back from them, confirming, with a Pdf of the actual label, which does show the country. All is well (but Our Eldest gets 'em as soon as, so that I can recover my Superlux's..!
  10. If the bass is a custom build, I'd have thought that the SIMS would do the job just fine, with the added bonus of having an MM option on tap, too. I'll look into that if I get Our Eldest to build a bass; it looks like Good Stuff.
  11. No, I'll thank you now, whilst it's still fresh, if you don't mind. Our Eldest asked to 'borrow' my Superlux headphones yesterday, as his present, domestic, Phillips set are rather not very good. After a brief discussion, we decided that his Christmas present would be a set of these ^^ 'phones (he borrowed mine just the same, of course...). I duly ordered them, including the -10% code (thanks for that, too...), and have received confirmation this morning that they've been dispatched. So far so good, but on the invoice received, and in the site's Address Book, there is no mention of the country to which it's been sent..! I've written to their Sales folks, suggesting that this might be useful information to have on any address labelling (we'll see what they think of the idea...), meanwhile we'll just have to hope that the UK postal services are able to work out where it's supposed to go, and will recognise a French address. Fingers crossed, then, or I may be without my 'cans' for quite some time..!
  12. Well done, trooper, for not 'bottling' it. 'What doesn't kill you makes you stronger' and all that..?
  13. Good evening, Shaun , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  14. He's got a good point for recording in a studio, but they're a bit (no, not 'a bit'; 'very'...) delicate for 'live' work for PA. Not worth considering for the OP's application, I'd say; doubly so if cost is a factor.
  15. Good afternoon, Spence , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  16. I gave it all of fifty seconds (but it seemed longer...). Just about everything I detest, all in one sitting. I'll have to play a bit of Anthem Of The Sun now to get that 'woomph woomph woomph' out of my ears. Act of terrorism..? High treason, more like..!
  17. Ha..! Now let me guess why you chose 'lower wattage'..!
  18. The Real Monday Club..? The Original Monday Club..? The Best Monday Club..? The Other Monday Club..? The Pukka Monday Club..? The One And Only Monday Club (Beware Of Imitations...)..? Club Monday..? ...
  19. Ain't it always the way..! Never mind, one has to do as one would when falling from one's horse: get straight back in the saddle and gallop on. I've a few choice words of wisdom and encouragement for you, which may help... 'It's the first forty years that are the worst, after which things sometimes tend to get slightly better.' There you go, done and dusted..! Good luck with the next gig.
  20. Our group would rehearse at the singer's place, 'La Daubelière', so we became 'The Daub'z'. He's moved since, several years ago now, and we now rehearse at our home. We've retained the name 'The Daub'z', though, despite it no longer being relevant. 'Friday Club' is as good a name as any other, relevant or not (well, the relevance would be that the name 'Monday Club' was taken, so there is a tale to tell, just the same...).
  21. Why do you have drums or percussion at all if it's all drowned out by an over-loud guitar anyway..?
  22. For some of us, that, too, is no mean feat.
  23. +1 ^^; check that your desk can supply phantom power for condenser mics. A large-diaphragm condenser mic will do fine for the piano, but will also be very useful for many other occasions (not the case for a boundary mic...). I've just bought a Superlux E205 from Thomann, at £34 (plus shipping...). Good Stuff, hits well above its price point (I've many Superlux mics, and am very pleased with 'em...). The ideal for your piano would be a stereo pair, but maybe that's overkill for a one-off usage. Hope this helps.
  24. That there Eric Morecambe is pretty good..!
