  1. Tariff for importing guitars from Morocco to the UK (EU...) ... 0% Not sure about VAT, though.
  2. Good evening, JB , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  3. Pink Floyd's 'The Final Cut'..?
  4. It means that, given a starting point (a note..?) the possible 'harmonically correct' notes are calculated, such as root to fifth, or root to third etc. These 'note choices are then sorted in order of preference; as suggested next note to play. This 'next note' is then, in turn, used to suggest a third note, and so on. The 'harmonically correct' part stems from music theory; the preference ranking, too, is based on well-accepted principles. All of this is based on music theory anyway, and so one's own studies would tend to confirm the suggestions made. It would, potentially, save time over working out theoretical note choices from scratch for those wishing to compose using these 'standard' guide lines. Most experienced composers would have this type of reasoning ingrained from their own experience and studies, but it could help either those starting out, or those wishing to 'break the mould of habit' and see what alternatives could be used. Not for everyone, maybe, but an interesting exercise in combining music theory and programming skills. That, in itself, is no mean feat. Some folks climb mountains for fun, others like scuba diving. To each their own pleasures in life. Subject to completion, correction and/or contradiction from others; hope this helps.
  5. Paying with Paypal with the Friends and Family (F&F...) option precludes the protection available for commercial transactions. One should only use this option if the degree of trust is firmly established between the parties, and be prepared to have no claims channel if things do, unfortunately turn sour, as in this case, apparently.
  6. Personally, I'd say that a full refund was in order. The rate at which the courier refunds 'per kilo' or whatever is not your concern, only that of the sender. He/she is the person that suffers the loss, and should take out adequate insurance if the risk is felt to be worth it. You've paid for stuff you've not received, so should get your money back, that's all.
  7. One tip, for general consumption, is to make your location known, everywhere you're posting. Obviously I'm including Basschat in this, but other places you post will also be more productive if your whereabouts is easily seen. Just sayin'; good luck with your quest.
  8. Good evening, Cicero, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  9. Well, if you start at the top, there's only one way left to go..!
  10. At 68 (next Monday...), I'm the eldest in our band, drumming, with Our Eldest as Guitar 1, Our Youngest on bass, a long-standing buddy as singer, and Guitar 2 who has just left us, to take up a job in the Caribbean. We've another Guitar 2 lined up, but we're in no hurry, as we're all busy with other projects for now. I can relate to the Zimmer frame stuff, though..!
  11. Oh, I dunno; I fed the first page into Google and the result was comprehensible, if not particularly fluid. I prefer the original, but, then again, I would, I suppose.
  12. Well, if we're going to get that picky... This fellow was using electrics on solid bodies in the very late 17xx's, according to Ms Shelley. The experiments were not popular with the neighbours, though, and the technique was abandoned for a couple of centuries.
  13. I'll have trouble explaining, then, as it takes in the concept of 'blowing one's own trumpet', boasting, self-promotion, modesty, and more, that one either captures or not. I was involved with a couple of bands during the '90s (touring, doing their lights, mostly, but equally organising festivals, or assisting in the tech side, at the console or backstage...), and assisted at many concerts and festivals, all over France. The sales of promo merch was an important part of the gig, but wearing it oneself was, for just about all the bands I crossed paths with, a 'no-no'. Bands such as Kiemsa, Les Amis De Ta Femme, Marcel Et Son Orchestre, La Ruda, Outrage... A scenic presence, certainly, but not to the point of touting oneself (would be seen as ridiculous...). Better to 'promote' one's favourite band, possibly even another band on the same bill..! Other points of view are valid, of course; this is just how I've always seen things done in the circles I went around in at the time.
  14. There are those that consider that to be in poor taste.
  15. Good afternoon, BB , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  16. Ah..! I didn't know that, so thanks. So much the better, then.
  17. As above ^^, there are no 'hard and fast' rules (other than the general T&C's on behaviour, of course...), but comments on technical 'boo-boos', or knowledgeable advice on improving a post or topic are usually best made by PM, directly to the OP, unless there's some kind of complaint involved, in which case a 'Report' to the Mods and Admins may be more appropriate. Honest, open criticism is a Good Thing, but it's rare that having it posted before the wide world is more beneficial than a discreet 'word to the wise'. Hope this helps; your valid comments have, naturally, been passed on to those concerned for action.
  18. A good range of services there, but would be difficult to generate enough turnover to pay the exorbitant commercial rates that shop premises attract; in a High Street, at least. Could work, maybe, if working from home, as long as the local bye-laws on that weren't infringed, I suppose. Sharing premises with another occupation could be an option, too (Hair-dressing salon..? Men's wear..? Haberdashery..? McDona... Nah, not Mcdo..!).
  19. 'Old school' drummers (I'm one...) can use brushes (very, very old school, which give a totally satisfactory 'thwack' when handled properly...), and/or 'hot-rods', an excellent compromise between the brush technique (admittedly a bit different to sticks...) and ornery sticks. They, too, can make quite a din, but one has to really work hard for that; normally they're very positive as a feeling, but produce less volume. Of course, real drummers can play well, even hard rock, without excess volume, but that's another can of worms, I suspect.
  20. Oi..! More than half-deaf, but not completely deaf, y'know..! Any louder and you might even wake me up..!
  21. No, I wuz only joshin'. Bellow all you want; I'm more than half-deaf anyway.
