Pick Up Problem - need advice re: a new set up
Dad3353 replied to Bilbo's topic in EUB and Double Bass
No indeed; Blu Tack is not transparent (it's blue..!) ... -
Probably hard to believe, I know, but I suspect that Bilbo is, in fact human..! He probably (not 'certainly', but 'probably'...) has feelings and emotions, just as outlandish, illogical and contradictory as most of us (well, me, at least...). I, for instance, don't approve of folks burning up fossil fuels in guzzling vehicles. I'll be going to the shops, however, in a few minutes in my car. Hypocrite..? Yup..!

Pick Up Problem - need advice re: a new set up

Have you tried 'phoning or mailing K&K for an other set of stick-on tape for the pads..? They must have surely come across the case before. What glue did you use..? I hope you didn't glue directly to the pick-up pad itself; did you put the glue on the old (no longer sticky...) pad tape..? Here's what they say about using the tape... Using Double-sided Adhesive Tape ... -
Fully loaded or empty..?

Good evening, JP, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.

After using my Hofner President guitar as bass, I finally invested the princely sum of £20 for a Vox Clubman ... Supposedly new, from a sort of pawn shop in Addlestone, Surrey. It had an odd socket, rather like a TV aerial socket, on the pick-guard, not the side as in the photo, which I had to change. It got little use, and was taken in part exchange for a Vox Continental organ that my good lady at the time was to learn to play. That, too, had a short life with us, being traded for a Hohner Pianet M. It mattered little to me at the time, as I was already playing drums by then. Do I regret that bass..? Not one bit. The Hofner President, yes. I was a fool to let that go (I've been looking since for another: Hofner President, two pick-up, single Florentine cut, violin burst...).

Doesn't that ruin the bow's varnish..? -
I'd like to know just how he manages to get all those clean shirts, jackets and stuff into such a small tote bag.

I don't buy it. Real musicians practise and study in their 'downtime'. ...

Maybe, but I use sticks now; it's less expensive. -
Impossible..! Musicians never visit forums. Fact.

What do you value about your local music shop?
Dad3353 replied to MiltyG565's topic in General Discussion
Ah, but that's the key, you see. Hickory. I must have tried, over the years, most sticks, including aluminium, fibreglass, maple and more. Japanese White Oak is where it's at, is all. I actually used the Tama ones for a very long time, but by the time I wanted to renew (not broken, just a bit too ragged, chipped, dented and worn out from much use...), they didn't make 'em any more..! If I'd bought a dozen pairs at the time, I'd still have some left..! D'oh..! Not much in it between 5A and 7A, but I prefer the slightly longer reach (am I lazy..? You betcha; it's a quality I panegyrize..!); the nylon tips mark cymbals and heads less than wood, too. StickChat will be one of the sections in the new DrumChat.co.uk when the Admins get back from their hibernation. I may not live to see it, but it's programmed. -

Try a few pairs of these... Promark 7A Japanese White Oak Sticks, Nylon Tip ... You won't need more than three or four pairs, as you'll not be breaking them (I've seen some videos of your strike; these should suit just fine...). I have spares in the stick bag on my floor drum, but only for when (not 'if', but 'when' ...) my oafish old fingers lose grip and I drop one. I've not broken a stick in decades, despite some fairly hefty rim-shots with a rockish repertoire (RATM, SOAD, Noir Désir and more ...). My 'Tip Of The Week'; no need to thank me. -

An excellent exercise in recycling, but they're real suds to play.

Good evening, Steen , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Just a thought: what happens if you use a capo, at various frets..? Is that string still different compared to the others..?
