  1. Regular, systematic hearing tests, carried out by the company's medical officer or a third-party consultant, create records of the evolution of one's hearing, along with other standard medical check-ups (eyesight, , urine sample, blood pressure etc...). The tests take into account the natural losses due to ageing. For those exposed to noisy environments, the hearing tests in France are annual; for other employees every two years. I'd imagine similar practise being applicable in the UK and elsewhere. Routine H&S, really, no great surprise, surely..?
  2. Well, have a round of applause, then, and our (group...) thanks...
  3. And the winner is... Bilbo..! Here, then, is your Winner's Certificate (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ... BC_Chal_Cert_2018_03.pdf ... which looks like this (but bigger, of course..!)…
  4. No idea (I'm old...), but try editing the first post in the topic, and see if that gives any clues..?
  5. Maybe add 'Solved..!' to the title of this topic..?
  6. Good evening, HH... Yes, you're right; there's nothing worthwhile in that price range new. As for the three linked, they're all three about equivalent in their performance, and would, all three, get you going with no real issues. I'd suggest, if you have the time and leisure, looking at each, and listening, not to the drums (they need tuning, almost certainly...), but the cymbals. They will determine the difference between 'noise' and 'music', in my view. The prices look very reasonable to me, for complete kits, and if there's nothing broken, will serve well until your needs evolve. Ask further if you feel the need; I'm here most days... Hope this helps; let us know how you get on. Meanwhile (and while waiting for Drumchat.co.uk to spring into life...) Have a nice day Douglas
  7. Ditto; a modest broadband here, but up to par right now. Have you tried turning it off then turning it on again..?
  8. Sorely tempted by this, to pair up with my Hiwatt head; pity it's the wrong side of the Channel for me. Good luck with the sale.
  9. Knock 'em Dead, Dave; knock 'em Dead.
  10. That way madness lies. As to the votes: I can't bear the suspense. The results may polarise before the end, but there's a pause in the voting, it seems. 10 votes so far..? A grizzly turn-out, certainly, but maybe some have simply furgotten the poll..? We don't panda to folks' tastes, s'all. Did we make a Boo-Boo in choosing this photo..? We need a steddy floe of suitable subjects to break the ice; the koalaty has to be maintained. I'll stop now; I've a head cold, so cub along, go bearzurk and listen to the compositions, then vote, please.
  11. The Infected Donut. Not (yet...) an 'official' acronym, but could become one, if you play your cards right..! Yes indeed, most here are nice, but beware of ... Oh no, he's just come in. I'll leave it there. (Hastily turns off screen, whistling a falsely innocent air and gazing around into empty space...) ...
  12. Good evening, TID, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  13. Could have been worse; they could have decided to do a 'Bartholomew' on him.
  14. It's funny, that's not in the 'Brief Lives' that I've read (and re-read...), nor in the stage play of same, with Roy Dotrice (RIP...) in the lead (well, solo...) role of Aubrey himself. It's these little-known factlets that 'make' the personality, I find, so thanks for that.
  15. Between long-standing, reputable BC members it can work, although the 'risk' element is always there, naturally. One should be prepared for a straight loss, whatever the amount, and whoever the Seller when using that option, however. For my part (I'm not a regular user of the Marketplace; still less for high-value items...) I have never had any issues with gift payment, but I choose carefully with whom I deal. I have been lucky so far; one shouldn't count on luck, though.
  16. No more (or less...) so than a bass player, no.
  17. This stuff will do the job ... 3M Dual Lock ... Not to be confused with Velcro; this really does lock up solidly, but allows removal (it takes quite some force, though, 'cos it's got a very strong grip in itself...). Hope this helps.
  18. ? ? ? What's so impractical about ear protection..? I've used 'em industrially and on stages; I know lots of musicians that wouldn't be without 'em. A viola player has a different morphology..? I don't understand the problem.
  19. That won't help the bloke sat next to the cymbal clashes..! No, you're right, of course, but then, the noise levels would not make the use of protection necessary at all. So much the better, certainly, but if one is exposed to noise, protection is required, practical or not.
  20. No inference on my part. Either one wears protection, or one's hearing is compromised. There are several forms of protection, suitable for many industries, including the music industry. What's suitable for a rock musician is liable to be suitable for an orchestra pit player, I'd have thought.
  21. It certainly isn't practical to loose one's hearing.
