  1. Possibly Pineau des Charentes, an aperitif.
  2. Good afternoon, BB , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  3. Trading an item is not what the 'Wanted' section is for. You may place an ad in the 'Basses For Sale' section, giving the value of the item to be traded, and specifying 'Trade only; no cash sale'. Any bass can be offered or asked for as a trade, except, of course, Rickenbacker basses, as BC cannot guarantee the authenticity of such instruments. Trading a 35" scale for a 34", for instance, is perfectly permissible, provided that the valuation of the bass is correct. Hope this helps.
  4. Indeed; we keep careful records of stuff like this in the Log Book. ...
  5. It's taking us quite a while, as there's a backlog.
  6. A topic heading on another (non-bass...) forum; thought it could be useful as a band name... A Possible Source Of Circlips No need to thank me, and it's free.
  7. Offers and trade propositions posted in 'For Sale' ads are systematically deleted. They are to be made by Private Message (PM...) only. Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
  8. It's only a 'hack' convention, to give some rigour to a session. One could just as easily 'trade eights' or more if it was agreed beforehand; there's nothing 'sacred' about it at all. Or, as in the case above with Mr Rich, the solo spot lasts until the band leader gives the signal to come back in..! For ensembles that are meeting up, maybe half-jamming, standards, a 'trade four' notion is the oil that greases the musical engine, though.
  9. The last couple of years before retiring I squeezed a double pedal under my desk, with a bass drum trigger pad. I would spend the working day doing stuff (in fact, very little, being the IT Boss, so delegating what little needed doing, as all had already been done...), whilst pedalling away with rudiments, basically much like snare exercises. It lasted for over a year before the Director asked me, politely, to desist, as he felt it gave the wrong signals to some of the staff. I was getting quite good at double paradiddles, flams and the like, but complied for the sake of peace. It's a pity that the relative expertise developed in this way has not, as yet, evolved into a workable addition to my playing with the full kit. Occasional 'blast beats' (the climatic ending to RATM's Killing In The Name Of', for instance, and some moderate success adding triplet 'patters' to Buckley's 'Grace'), but not really at ease for much else. Old dog, new tricks, I suppose...
  10. ... as does Jack Casady.
  11. I bought an item through a Chinese site, using my bank card, as Paypal was not offered. This was in October of last year. No delivery, nor contact since accepting the order (and, of course, taking the money...). My bank, Credit Agricole, have still not decided to reimburse the princely sum of 25€. I don't think they're ever going to, now, the sods.
  12. Next week, Spoonerisms, I wouldn't shonder; after that malapropisms. Pleases precede.
  13. Snap (well, nearly..!). Kathleen Ferrier and South Pacific in our house..! My folks didn't 'approve' either, but had to put up with my efforts on the guitar, then electric guitar, as soon as I got my first pay packets. Still, happy daze..! Incidentally, I had occasion to listen to a bit of South Pacific for the first time in decades the other day (don't ask..!). It has not aged well at all..! 'Bloomin' awful' would be about as generous as I could be with what I heard.
  14. Good Stuff indeed..! ^^ Nice 'hats', too. With a touch more production it'd not disgrace a NIN album. I'll not declare it an automatic 'Winner of the Month', but the track that beats it will have to be very good indeed..! On another note, I may have to dip out this month. I've started, but Stuff is getting in the way (not feeling well doesn't help...). I may yet squeeze past the post, but don't hold up the voting waiting on me.
  15. The playing of Jack Casady was my reference point, and still is. Firstly with the Airplane (and Starship...), then Hot Tuna. Many other fine players and songs, of course, but that's a style I gravitate to and am inspired by. For drumming, it's maybe no coincidence that my biggest influence has been Spencer Dryden, tempered since with a hefty dose of Joe Morello.
  16. Maybe, but all too often insolvency makes it unlikely that any real money gets clawed back.
  17. That's one heck of a list for a pub band, in my opinion. If looking for a full-time job, or career, maybe I'd agree with a lot of the points, but for 'week-end warrior' bands, for folks with a 'real' job for the mortgage, I'd suggest it's royal overkill. Is it fun..? Do you get on with the band members..? Is the gigging frequency compatible with other stuff going on..? That's about it, I'd say, for a great many of us. For a more serious gigging musician, I'd say that depping brings about the best opportunities, with the bonus of knowing exactly what the band does from having played with 'em on gigs, if a permanent offer comes up, as well as the contacts it offers. No real need to go about it like an accountant, I say. Just my tuppence-worth.
  18. I use both Flickr and Imgur. The first for its nice album arrangement (but I have to edit the BBCode link, which is a pain...), the second for ease of linking, but has less good album stability. Imgur stores animated Gif files better, too... Hope this helps.
