  1. Nice of you, but won't you catch cold..? ...
  2. Designs..? You speak in jest, Shirley..? A lot of thought (and marketing...) has gone into each of those, but pretty..? Nah..! I don't doubt their admirable qualities as playable instruments (well, actually, I do, a bit...), but they're all ugly (saving grace for the bodiless, headless, Steinberger-ish one, for its symmetry, but it ain't beautiful, but any stretch...). Anyone think the opposite..? Hmm; thought not.
  3. Let us know of the replies you get, please..?

    Hi !

No, it's music. Have you listened to the words..? Yes..? Listen again when you're over sixty, maybe..? No..? Listen again when you're over sixty, maybe..?
  5. Good afternoon, Frank... Have you had a look through here (Bass Tutors Available...) Is there no-one suitable (I see Southend-On Sea, for instance...)..?
  6. Exactly. If Fender had released the P-bass with that Tensor shape at the time, then Tensor now released the P-bass shape, I'm pretty certain the comments would be the same: 'It's fugly', just because it's not the familiar shape.
  7. Somehow..? Neither of those look much like a guitar at all. This is a guitar that could lay at least some claim to beauty... 'The eye of the beholder' and all that, of course, but there's really nothing 'right' about any Fender, or similar; they're all amorphous lumps of painted wood; as much resemblance to a guitar as a Salvador Dali fob-watch.
  8. You really are a funny old lot. The Fender Precision, and its stable mate, the Jazz, provoked pretty much those same reactions from the staid, fuddy-duddy bass players of the day when they were announced. I don't think many, if any at all, were saying 'Now there's a nice-looking bass'. The terms of reference were very different; folks had the idea that 'bass' meant 'upright double bass'. Now, it seems, 'bass' means 'Fender', and any deviation from the terms of reference seen as 'ugly'. As an object of beauty in its own right, I'd put up very few bass guitars; even very few instruments at all. Bongo, anyone..? Firebird..? Seriously..? Amorphous slabs of painted wood; nothing graphically exciting in any sunburst (maybe, perhaps, a violin finish on a semi-acoustic, if I stretch a bit...). Still, it's healthy, I suppose, to pitch tar and feathers on anyone trying to break the mould, but those wishing for innovation and progress seem hard to please, somehow. Yes, it's ugly. In exactly the same way, and for exactly the same reasons, as most basses are ugly. You really are a funny old lot.
  9. Does this amp have, or need, a step-down transformer in order to run on UK 240v mains supply..?
  10. Sorry, but that's just intolerance on your part, I'd say. He's an experienced professional already, (yes, even at that young age...), making sure that his bass lead isn't going to trip him up when he takes the couple of steps backwards that will follow your clip. If only everyone could be that conscientious. I doubt that they missed you, with such an attitude.
  11. Having been afflicted with (too...) many a ditty from the Venerable Lurks, I can quite understand the enormity of such a threat. ...
  12. Just getting back on topic before it's too late. PM Happy Jack if this private demo tomorrow interests you. Thank you.
  13. I'd just like to call attention to the splendid effort and dedication to detail displayed by our colleague The Skank. Keeping up to date with such a plethora of images appropriate for almost every occasion is no mean feat, and should not go unrecognised. Please rise, then, and as one, applaud our graphic hero with gusto and enthusiasm. Here's to you then, Skank, Master of the Matching Cliché.
  14. A propos, I don't think I've received your monthly instalment. You know what happened last time; I'm sure we don't want to have to go through all that again, eh..? Just a friendly word to the wise.
  15. It's one of the strange ways that businesses work, to me. I'm not carping about any one shop, site or enterprise; I frequent none of them anyway, and am a drummer, so... However, the work involved in selling a bass would be substantially the same, I'd have thought, almost whatever its price point. Why not have a fixed commission cost..? Enough to cover all the work, attention and overheads; one commission cost whatever the bass's price..? Why wouldn't that work..? I don't see what extra value has been added to selling a, say, £1000 bass over a , say, £2000 bass. I've no qualms with having the sales outlet have a decent amount for their services, but what's the justification for percentage, rather than a fixed sum..? Is there one..?
  16. Good evening, Andy, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. 'Be gentle with me'..? I'll try , but kid gloves are not my default garment, I'm afraid. What's the issue..? Just a quiet word in your receptive ear, really, to warn you that the Squier Police will be along shortly, mocking, jeering and generally heaping red-hot coals on the unfortunate innocent who has the nerve to spell the marque wrongly. As to it being a Fender... Good gracious..! Hordes of baying Basschat pedants will already be frothing at the gills when they see that. We may yet be able to save the situation, if you've your cheque book handy; maybe we can pass off the faux pas as a knowing joke on your part..? A deliberate early attempt at 'in' humour..? Depends on the amount received, of course. Be warned, however, that there are those who take these things seriously, very seriously indeed. We'll try to calm spirits for now, until your cheque arrives; meanwhile... Have a nice day Douglas
  17. He is indeed, and very pleased with his modest investment, too. I'd be up to a Focusrite 'shoot-out', given the chance, but I'm not sure that their generosity rises to that level.
  18. Good afternoon, Malcolm, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  19. Distortion..? You can have my portion.

    Hi !

... and a very good singer he was, too..! (Less good now, of course, but still a heck of a lot better than me..! Not at all bad as an actor, either...)
  21. Good evening, Sandy, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
