But the clue, I think, is in your last phrase... Changed the world for those kids, I'd agree, but not 'changed the World'. A major effect on those that 'were there', but much less important (as a TV show...) for most of the planet; even less so for those who'd already been exposed to them and their peers. I remember their first passages on the Light Programme (we had no TV at that time...), and was well aware of the hysteria surrounding their every appearance, but to say it was like St Paul's epiphany would be a great exaggeration. There were many other groups around at the time that also caught our attention. A greater impact was the passage of John Peel on the airwaves to many in the UK, and possibly Europe. I'm wary, in any case of fanaticism in any form.

Modest as I am, I'd suggest starting with all music and working out from there. One rule to bind 'em, or something. A real standard that, once learned (which would be much easier for all...) would be useful for all musicians, worldwide and for ever. That'll do for starting out, I reckon. Generous as I am, I'll not even be patenting nor copyrighting the genial idea. I humble statue in a prominent location of most capital cities will be enough reward, probably.

If, to answer that, I have to listen to it all the way through, I think I'll abstain, if you don't mind.

Just to humour you, diatonic means no accidentals (sharps or flats, in Western music...). Examples of diatonic instruments would be diatonic accordions and harmonicas, and the dulcimer.

Most guitars and basses have removable knobs, with set-screws, grub screws or simply pull-off. It's a relatively easy mod to do, and so have one's own preferred style of knob on the instrument. That's what I would do if I didn't like 'em (and have done, several times...). No big deal, I say.

Yes, as is fitting for '50s-styled semi-hollow bass..! Would day-glo knobs look better on it..?

My car radio doesn't have 18" speakers, but I can get a decent reggae sound from 'em. (Or at least, I could if I listened to reggae through it, but I don't... ). Speaker size and 'tone' are not directly linked. Think ear-buds. No good for reggae tone..? Hmm...

Indeed; if the instrument is of decent manufacture and has been stable for the past forty-odd years, it would be detrimental to alter anything. Best left in its current state, strung up with balanced string/truss rod tension, in that case.

Get a high-quality studio photo of each bass printed up, full size. Frame and hang those on the walls, optionally with attractive lighting; leave the basses in their cases in a secure, temperate room (not the attic...), to be taken out and checked up on regularly (quarterly..?). That's how museums and art galleries keep their produce intact for so many decades.
