  1. Where you apparently see 'mire', I see helpful and informative comment and advice (some good, some not so good...) on the topic posted. To me, it looks like an excellent example of BC teamwork. With some luck (and maybe legal help..?), there may be a tangible result in having a fine library of work made available to those interested in playing music. Glass half full or half empty..? Happy Christmas, anyway.
  2. I'd like to see the case made concerning loss of revenue of these copyright holders, purely legal arguments aside. What is the rational justification for preventing the diffusion of this information; what detriment is there to the copyright holder..? Most especially regarding free diffusion, or for study purposes..? I can understand upholding the rights when there's a commercial gain involved (although personally I don't agree with it, but that's another topic...), but, apart from fear of some heavy-handed law, where's the harm..? Just curious; not disputing that there may be cause for caution.
  3. Thanks for the correction, BRX. II'll not thank you for the condescension, though.
  4. I'm not a lawyer, but I've always held the idea that chord sheets aren't copyright. Melodies could be (and usually are...), or whole songs, but not series of chords. I'm a member of several other forums that make available, either as sites or by member's posts, chord sheets for many styles. It won't hurt to check, I suppose, but the example posted is, in my (non-legal-eagle eye view...) OK to have and to hold.
  5. Good evening, Switch, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Please allow me to give my usual words of wisdom and encouragement... It's the first forty years that are the hardest, after which things sometimes have a tendency to get slightly easier.
  6. Best idea on BC since... Well, since the last Very Good Idea. Excellent page layout, simple to use (even for non-drummers...). I've a fairly extensive 'collection' of disparate songs, standards and others, but in very varied formats. This is about the best I've seen, and I'd be interested in adding to my library. Stout work, sir; you're a Good Egg for making such effort available. Have a resounding hand...
  7. Just goes to show what a lousy advocate for the Devil I'd make..! OK, then, I'll desist and agree that bland is bland..! I, too, like to look for (and, even better, find..!) another angle than the tired old tried and tested, easy-peasy chords and harmonies. I do still use 'em, though, when inspiration once again eludes me..! Long live the whole palette of musical shades and colours.
  8. Good afternoon, ESL , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  9. Good afternoon, Oomworthy, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  10. I'll recommend this ... Mickey Baker's Complete Course in Jazz Guitar ... ... as a lasting method that'll be useful to you for years.
  11. What..? No prizes..? [Dragon's Den] I'm out..! [/Dragon's Den] ...
  12. Offers and trade propositions posted in 'For Sale' ads are systematically deleted. They are to be made by Private Message (PM...) only. Thanks in advance for your understanding and cooperation.
  13. But isn't that a bit like saying 'Avoid using green when painting forest scenes'..?
  14. Good evening, JV , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  15. Good evening, Cuzzy, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  16. He's got a pretty good harmoniser, then..!
  17. Duo ^^ ..? That's a lot of tracks to play and sing at once for a duo..!
  18. Good evening, Ryan, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  19. Real 'old school', just how I like it..!
  20. Again, I'd take issue with this. There are, I agree, several hundreds of excellent, top-quality songs written and performed by the likes of Sting and co, there's no denying, but to state that 'ornery folks' can't write great stuff too is, I contend, false. An absolute judgement of comparative quality is pointless, but I have CD's of excellent amateur or semi-pro musicians doing their own compositions, often with strong local success. I'll post an early video from Kiemsa as an example. I doubt if it rings a bell with any of you, but I'd put its level of composition up (in its genre...) as good as any. Here's 'L'Atelier Fantôme', then. No good..? No good at all..? Hmm...
  21. I'm not sure that I agree totally with this. I've assisted at concerts over many decades, and have excellent souvenirs of original stuff played by local bands in the late '60s and early '70s, despite advancing age. I toured (as a lighter...) with our Eldest's punk/rock/ska band for a few years, too, who played exclusively their own stuff, either supporting or being supported by equally talented originals bands; they left a lasting impression for the most part. It's true that I'm not an attendee at pubs, discos, raves nor dance-halls, so have absolutely no exposition to whatever is 'popular' or being played on those circuits. To me, Mustang Sally will be much the same as an 'original', if ever I get to hear it.
  22. Good call; ordered. Thanks for the tip-off. I remember leaving the Kingston College concert, circa 1972, before they set the place afire with their pyrotechnics. Long drape curtains all around the hall; a recipe for disaster..! It all ended well, of course, but I listened to the finale from outside; I felt safer..! Heady daze.
