  1. Sorry to 'bang on' about this, but I really think it needs nailing down. I think we all agree that BC should not (indeed; does not...) condone nor allow illegal activity, in the Marketplace nor elsewhere. We may (or may not..? Any dissenters..?) agree that counterfeiting is illegal, and that application of a trademark other than by its owner is counterfeiting. It would follow, then, that it beholds BC to withdraw any such activity when spotted, by whomsoever. Is this what is recommended..? Is it the 'illegality' that troubles you, or the risk of mis-selling and misrepresentation (or both...)..?
  2. This, then, seems to be the crux of the matter. You are suggesting that, for any ad posted, if someone (anyone..?) spots a purported 'fake', they should Report it, and the Mods or Admin immediately remove the post. Is that a fair description of your suggestion..?
  3. The argument advanced was that, the Ric case notwithstanding, all trademark infringements are trademark infringements, and could, potentially, get the whole site into trouble. The Ric solution was in response to a real threat of such action. If this same threat exists for other trademarks, then surely, whatever the consequences, a similar approach is needed..? Unless there's a better, sure-fire way..? That's what I'd like the OP to suggest: his solution, to see if it really does comply. If so, it could certainly be considered.
  4. Absolutely; it's not mandatory for inclusion in ads either. If one chooses not to, then one forgoes the advantages it could bring, either in an ad or the wider BC community. An example of the latter could be someone wanting advice on set-up, or a transport problem; even local weather conditions; someone local could help, but only if location is given. Not mandatory, then, but often useful. It's a choice, though, same as declaring one's gender or age. I've no problem with that, myself.
  5. Have you a practical way of identifying fake headstock logos (or any other trademark-protected stuff...) before the ad is posted..? Who decides, if such an 'infringement' is identified, if it's a genuine or a fake..? What happens to the ad in the meantime..? The practicalities of this make it such that, in my opinion, any image of any bass (or amp, pedal or whatever...) must be precluded. Have you a better, workable solution that protects both the site from legal action and a Buyer from being misled..? If so, what is it..? Genuine question, not 'nit-picking'. The Ric solution was the best we could come up with (with much regret, but things is things...); must we adopt the same approach for all trademarks..?
  6. Be prepared to have to put up with entries such as 'Shan't tell' or 'Home, obviously' or worse. S'inevitable. If folks are noggin enough to put 'Collection only' and not give the location in the ad itself, then they'll be missing out on potential sales. Personally, I've no problem with that; I'd just pass on to the next ad.
  7. The 'problem' remains; how to tell, with 100% certainty, from the outset, before allowing the ad to be posted, if the 'Fender' logo' is on a real Fender or on a copy..? Any answers..?
  8. How, in practical, pragmatic terms could the site (the Mods..? Admin..? A robot..?) know if a bass presented for sale is a fake or not..? The decision to ban Ric ads was the result of exactly that conundrum. Under menace of legal action if any infringement was seen, and not being able to identify with certainty the origin of any bass advertised, it was necessary to ban all. That way, it's certain that no fakes are for sale. Should the site do the same for Fenders..? Ban them from being sold totally; that way no illicit trademarks would get through the net. Yes, this means that 'pukka' Fenders would be banned, too (but how would one distinguish 'real' from 'false'..?). It's a solution; is that what is being proposed..? If not, what other method would ensure zero tolerance..?
  9. Really..? That's good to know; thank you.
  10. S'not just the weight lifted by an operator, though; a heavy object falling even from a small height will damage itself by its own weight alone. These Hohners are delicate; I had one (the 'upright', furniture version...) and even while 'resting' at my parent's home, went out of tune progressively. They can be tuned, but it's notoriously difficult to do so. Great care, more than an average parcel service, would be recompensed many times over in musicality, once at its final destination. Can it really not be taken on the back seat of your car (or anyone's car going that way...). Just sayin'; 'twould be a shame to get it there only for it to be unplayable.
  11. Fixed (presumably..?) Notwithstanding, in retail shops the price displayed must match the price asked for at the sales point. Incorrect pricing is a punishable offence, whether the TS people do little or much. Displaying £5 and asking for £6 at the till is illegal. They don't have to sell at £5, but they do have to display £6, or risk a fine (or more...).
  12. Good evening, Fulkram, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  13. Good evening, BL, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  14. If the price is not the same at check-out, it could well be a Trading Standards offence, though, with a hefty fine. A 'one-off' simple mistake might pass, but several items under-priced on the shelves would be quite big trouble for the shop. They may not want to have that aggravation, and prefer to let the product go at the marked price, then (perhaps...) hurriedly update the shelf pricing.
  15. Good evening, TC, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  16. Thanks for that; I've learned something today, at least. I was guessing more 'Persian Gulf'; I wuz wrong.
  17. Good evening, Stew, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share (... but you knew that anyway, didn't you..! ). Welcome back; onward and upward.
  18. Sounds good; if only I knew what the genre sounds like..! More power to your elbow.
  19. My advice, for what it's worth, would be to acquire a set of Rotosound Trubass 88 strings (black nylon...) Very comfortable to play, and very, very long-lasting. 'Old-school' sound (no good whatsoever for slap or such...). My Hofner Verithin bass is strung with them, and has been for the last decade or so. If playing comfort is a high priority for you, you'll love 'em. Yes, I'm old, too; how did you guess..?

    Howdy all

Good evening, Asvac , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. There are more than a few of us here even further 'north' than yourself, young whippersnapper..!
  21. If you want to be really hard, you go in the hold and give your seat to your instruments.
  22. I've 'Reported' it, asking for it to be moved.
  23. None this year, largely through ill health and other stuff, but we're starting up rehearsals again, so who knows for 2018..? We never do many in a year in any case (the most was nine or ten, I think...), but it gives us a sense of purpose. Hope springs eternal...
  24. The price entered when creating an ad is Forever; it cannot be changed, as it's used by the System. To indicate a change in price, put the current price in the title, perhaps..? Hope this helps.
  25. Over the years we've developed a 'points-based' system, in order to rationalise the results of the final poll. Here are the attributions to be used when 'judging' an entry... Originality (or originality of choice in the case of these covers...) : five points Technical appreciation of the execution (playing...) of the piece... : five points Recording quality : five points Any humorous or quirky characteristics : five points The piece being the one you wish to vote for : five zillion points Hope this helps.
