  1. I've only just come to realise the subtle cunning behind the title to this topic.
  2. Probably not much money to be earned building cathedral models from matchsticks, either, despite the enormous devotion and skill put in. Growing prize-winning marrows doesn't butter many parsnips, either. Poets in their garrets are not eating very well (if they can even afford a garret; it's always been a luxury...). Historically, most 'arts' were paid for by kind or enlightened patrons, who would support the stuff that they believed in. It's never been easy being an artist, in whatever field; the recently past boom in careers in music is not the 'normality'; rather the exception. Should it be so..? A moot point.
  3. You mean that (Gasp..!) there is something else besides Radio 4..? Really, Blue..! Some folks are still in this century; not everyone has stepped boldly into the future..!
  4. I'm not certain (I don't listen to 'em...), but I have the impression that most radio stations are more about the ephemera than the classics, of any ilk. Not much Grateful Dead on the airwaves, either.
  5. Good evening, DiMarco , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. (... but you knew that anyway, didn't you..? )
  6. Good evening, dasitor, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  7. Sorry to have walked into your cabbage patch; it seems I must bow to your superior erudition. That'll larn me to attempt any expansion on a potentially interesting topic. Please forgive the intrusion; it won't happen again.
  8. It could maybe be admitted that musical 'fact' and 'absolutes' can, and do, change and evolve over time. Minor was not admissible at one point in Western music, nor even the black notes. Dissonance has a fairly chequered history, too. What is considered sublime by some can become heretical to others later, and conversely. There are, of course other 'musics' out there, too, as you doubtless know. Javanese scales sound pretty 'out' to many, but are well understood by the musicians playing 'em. There is a certain subjectivity to it all. 'Music concrete'..? Electronica..? All is not C-D-E etc.
  9. I stand by my list. (although the very notion of 'young and impressionable' rankles somewhat..! )
  10. Cheeky beggar. Just you wait; I'll be telling your Mum about this, you just see if I don't...
  11. Can't, the list is too long; they all had their part to play, and I wouldn't rank any above (or below...) another. A sample..? Well, just a few, but there's more, many more... Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, Fairport Convention, The Incredible String Band, The Martin Spicer Band, Porpoise, The Alan Stirling Band, The Daub'z, Ry Cooder, NIN... (Drops off to sleep, numbed fingers caressing the keyboard until they slip away. Low snoring ensues...)
  12. You too, Raeman..! Get to bed; you've a long day tomorrow.
  13. Will you lot all shut up and let an old man sleep, for goodness sake..?
  14. Good afternoon, Raeman, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  15. Good afternoon, TB , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  16. Always keen to hear new stuff, I was intrigued enough by the enthusiasm shown in this topic to give 'em a whirl through their Youtube presence. Luckily, I was doing other stuff at the same time, so I didn't completely waste my afternoon. Good gracious; I knew, several decades ago, a few folks that would listen to stuff like this, but they've, for the most part, either stopped smoking that stuff now and got their life back, or are dead from over-use. In any case, I couldn't stand more than half an album or two; I completed none. Would I do it again..? Ha..! Still, I did learn some new stuff, but I'm not so keen, now. How odd..!
  17. S'easy; I'm a drummer..! No, I was helped by playing around with Guitar Pro for a couple of minutes, listening to the notes and popping them onto the stave. It's a bit more complicated transcribing Rimsky-Korsakov, but a similar principle.
  18. No, but it took me just a couple of minutes to drum this up, if it helps. It's just the essentials; sort the rest out yourself... Drun.pdf Hope this helps.

  21. T'won't be long before you're chopping it in for a 5-slice one.
