[quote name='fleabag' timestamp='1509116445' post='3396789'] Its my understanding ( mainly from info on BC ) that 900 watts is not much louder than 450 watts... [/quote] To which I'd add that 450 watts is, also, very loud indeed (depending on context, cabs used etc...)..! The maths is one thing, the volume in the room is another. It matters little to the average Joe, playing his/her bass what the amps, watts, impedances are doing; if it's loud, it's loud. There comes a point where it's loud [i]enough[/i], and [i]that [/i]point should be what to aim for, that's all.

[quote name='Triumphman' timestamp='1509112611' post='3396730'] Quick refresher needed. If my amp is requesting an 8 ohm minimum speaker, what are the options? Iirc there's a formula, 2 x 16 ohm in series would also work etc that's probably wrong but you get my drift [/quote] [quote name='xgsjx' timestamp='1509113801' post='3396745'] Either series or parallel is gonna be fine. 2 16 ohm in parallel would be fine too, as that would be 32 ohm, but not many people want to do that. [/quote] For clarity, there are basically two formulae... Speakers in parallel: divide the impedance. Example: 2 x 16 in parallel show 8 to the amp, 4 x 16 in parallel show 4 to the amp. Speakers in series: addition the impedance. Example: 2 x 16 in series show 32 to the amp. 4 x 4 show 16 to the amp. That's the simple stuff; mixing impedances in parallel can become messy, so I'll leave that. Mixing impedances in series just means adding 'em up. Hope this helps.

[quote name='roceci' timestamp='1509056183' post='3396411']...or something else I've not considered. [/quote] Have you tried lowering the bass side of the bridge p/u a little..? (or raising slightly the treble side, but that can cause other issues if raised too far...). Count the turns of the screw to be able to get back to current position if need be. Easy enough to try..?

I use AAMS on my Reaper stuff. There's a free version for evaluation; the full version costs 65€ presently. Might be worth a look. I doctored a very badly recorded 'live' concert with Ozone a few years ago, and the results were spectacular. I've not used it since, though, and have lost it somewhere.

The amp is capable, with a 4 Ohm load, of delivering 900 W. With two cabs, that'll probably be extremely loud, at full tilt. Do you [i]really [/i]play with that sound level..? You'll soon hear the degradation if the cabs are being over-worked, so I'd suggest doing your daisy-chaining, and listen out for distortion from the cabs if you play loud. If you're not belting it out at full volume, there's little likelihood of any damage to the cabs. Check, though, by listening. Just my tuppence-worth.

[quote name='bobbass4k' timestamp='1508969397' post='3395772'] Thanks for the capitalization on the second B my good man. It's a problem of my own creation but the ass jokes get every so slightly tiresome... [/quote] 'Tis the [i]third [/i]'B', isn't it..? No wonder folks take the [s]pi ...[/s] mickey. [quote name='MoonBassAlpha' timestamp='1508970582' post='3395778']... Thanks Douglas, Eurostar! [/quote] Still waiting on that cheque.

[quote name='MoonBassAlpha' timestamp='1508969046' post='3395767'] Late entry alert!!... [/quote] Harrumph..! Bloomin' lucky that the Poll is, itself, a bit late..! As there are no votes cast as yet, I was able to slip in a quick one (stop giggling, back there..! ); no harm done. I'll expect a substantial cheque, of course. Now, can I get back to my Modding, please..?

Good morning, Mister RLP... If your BC picture quota is all used up, here's a way of recovering space... Go to your 'My Profile' (your pseudo, top right...). Select 'Edit my Profile' (black button a bit below...). Select 'Manage Attachments' (in the list on the left...). They are listed in date order. Navigate to oldest, select those to be deleted (tick boxes on the right...). Select 'Delete Selected' (grey button at bottom right of list...). Repeat, page by page, until all unwanted attachments are deleted. Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Flickr, Imgur or Imgbb is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Others are similar (assuming use of a PC; I know nothing of other devices...). Hope this helps; meanwhile... Have a nice day Douglas

I use Voxplugs for both bass and guitar, and, although they are not competition for an Ampeg stack, they're not so bad as to hurt one's ears, either. Plugs straight into the instrument, headset plugs in and that's all that's required. It's just for practising, or trying out an immediate idea; just grab the bass and play. If I want tone, I have a Hiwatt amp, but the trusty little Voxplug get far more use around the house than does the Hiwatt. Other folks may have other usage, but for simply practising, I wouldn't be without one.

I doubt that she complains 'Neck's too chunky; I've got small hands', either..!

[quote name='arthurhenry' timestamp='1508605125' post='3393294'] If you have an impromptu jam with your friends in front of the guests at a party in your home, is that a gig? What about if you play bass for a few songs at the local primary school's Christmas service? Playing in the band for a pantomime matinee and then again in the evening. Is that two gigs? Turning up and doing a couple of songs at a jam night. Is that a gig? [/quote] From the OED ...
