Opinions on this pick guard please, just out of curiosity.

Surely it all depends on what shoes are being worn..? -

[quote name='Steve Browning' timestamp='1507806669' post='3388064'] Strange how tastes can differ so much but this is the biggest waste of vinyl that there ever was. I am bored after the first 10 seconds... [/quote] So, not a great lover of Beethoven either, then..? It's true, it's not 'instant gratification' listening, and, indeed, doesn't appeal to all. I wouldn't listen to it either as a loop tape on a desert island, but it does have its moments, and there are 'right times' for listening to such stuff. Wagner's 'Ring' drones on for fifteen hours or so ... -

Sounds fine to me. That's 'fine' in the sense of 'no bum notes, and within the key of the piece'; I had to skip over the verses, as it's unbelievably 'cheesy'. I won't be listening through it again any time soon, and wonder how anyone could leave the studio thinking 'OK, lads, that's done; it's nailed.' I'm glad I wasn't invited to do the drum part.

[quote name='AnalogBomb' timestamp='1507406956' post='3385337']...As always, I can't seem to post pics... [/quote] Good evening, AB... If your BC picture quota is all used up, here's a way of recovering space... [color=#800080]Go to your 'My Profile' (your pseudo, top right...).[/color] [color=#800080]Select 'Edit my Profile' (black button a bit below...).[/color] [color=#800080]Select 'Manage Attachments' (in the list on the left...).[/color] [color=#800080]They are listed in date order. Navigate to oldest, select those to be deleted (tick boxes on the right...).[/color] [color=#800080]Select 'Delete Selected' (grey button at bottom right of list...).[/color] [color=#800080]Repeat, page by page, until all unwanted attachments are deleted.[/color] Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Flickr, Imgur or Imgbb is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Others are similar (assuming use of a PC; I know nothing of other devices...). Hope this helps...

It's not so much the 'slap' that's painful to listen to (to me...); it's more the 'mainstream', amply illustrated by the clip above ^^..!

[quote name='Mark D Phillips' timestamp='1507716757' post='3387383']... So if I make another clip what should I be looking to do differently?... [/quote] Stop singing..? ... ... No, seriously... For posting Youtube, embedded into a BC post, no special knowledge is needed; it's very easy. When on the Youtube page where the clip is, there is a button labelled 'Share' (just below the picture, on the right, on my browser...). Clicking that 'Share' button brings up a box with the link to the clip; it's handily pre-selected, so a simple 'Ctrl-C' (or Mac equivalent...) will copy the link to the clipboard. Go to the BC post, and place the cursor where the Youtube is to be seen, and 'paste' the link from the clipboard into the text being edited. Now comes the 'clever' part. The link always begins with 'https'. It's the 's' that frigs things up; it needs to be removed. That's handy, as it only needs editing out, and we're already editing our post..! Remove, then, the 's' from 'https' and the job's done..! When the post is finished and posted, the Youtube will be visible, ready to be played when selected. There; that was easy, wasn't it..? Try it and see..? Hope this helps.

Gig 17 days after carpal tunnel surgery???
Dad3353 replied to chrisanthony1211's topic in General Discussion
I didn't have surgery after all, as the cortisone shots worked well enough, but was warned that six weeks would be a minimum; six weeks of being unable to move the wrist without destroying the work that had been done, and further damage, too. I'd suggest getting a dep in for your gig whilst there's still time. -
My first youtube music clip: my own song
Dad3353 replied to Mark D Phillips's topic in Share Your Music
In Youtube, use the 'Share' button, then paste the link here. Remove the 's' from 'https' at beginning of the link and ( tadaaaa..! ) http://youtu.be/rGss0pRE9yU That's the way to insert video in BC posts. -
[quote name='blue' timestamp='1507664187' post='3387150'] I take it your not a supporter of local live music?... [/quote] What makes you think that..? I would be, if there [i]was [/i]any. When our local annual festival was going, I was fully active in that, and spent a great many week-ends out with a local ska/punk/rock band in their heyday. Too old and frail now for night-clubbing, which is just as well, as there are no local night-clubs. No, I fully support music of any sort, locally live or whatever. I was just remarking that, in past days, there have always been enthusiastic amateurs, hinting that professional musicians had few roles in such circuits. Pub/bar bands are a very recent phenomenon, and have no reason to be perennial. You admit it yourself: you're more of a dinosaur, really. Your time has come and gone; it won't be coming back any time soon. For the record, I've just turned sixty-seven, and am quite reconciled to no longer treading the boards every week-end. Been there, done that etc... Just my tuppence-worth; no malice intended.

[quote name='TPJ' timestamp='1507651023' post='3386998'] Have you asked your student what their goals are muiscally? I ask because I believe music is for everyone. Whether or not they play to a standard that might be deemed "acceptable" is irrelevant if the act of playing brings joy and satisfaction to the player. There is an accordian player that frequents some open mic nights in the area. He has facility and can play the thing but to all that listen, he has very little sense of time, rhythm or melody. He plays to backing tracks and it sounds as if he's playing one song or two on the accordian while the backing track is something else. People laugh but I just sit through it and let him play as he loves it. He gets out of the house and get's to play his instrument and it means something to him. So if the student just wants to play, help them gain some facilty to play whatever. If they have goals beyond their means, maybe help to get them as close as they can? [/quote] I agree here. I sometimes get called by an very old bloke who's been playing accordion and organ since before the war, and animates local old folks clubs in the region. His playing is technically atrocious; the melody is barely discernable, and there is little respect for the phrasing and timing. Nevertheless, he's called back time and time again, and, despite the faltering rhythm, the dance floor is always packed. He lives for his music, and is blissfully unaware of the (relatively abysmal...) standard of his playing. More power to his elbow, I say, and long may he go on enjoying his gigs and giving pleasure to many. He's given up his band, being now too old for loading up his Boxer van with the full PA, drums etc, and goes out solo, with Midi for backing. I get called when he accidentally erases his settings, and I have to load 'em in from his backup disks. Less often now than in the past, and probably not for much longer, as he's well into his eighties now. We all find our satisfaction in different ways.

... and the bloke 'tickling the ivories' at his local, bashing out the post-war favourites on the ol' Joanna. He got paid in pints; often they'd take it in turns, to rest their hands and chat with their mates and neighbours. That was the 'live music' of traditional pubs for decades. Very few 'pro's on that circuit (Mrs Mills, maybe..?). There's nothing sacred about having rock groups (or even blues bands...) in pubs. Where I live, it's a very rare event, to have live music in bars, cafés or pubs. I must say I don't miss the 'attraction', either.

Help me Basschat people, you're my only hope...
Dad3353 replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
Before retirement I was in IT, and, despite my innate laziness began to have carpal tunnel symptoms, mainly from mouse use. I had the cortisone shots, and that helped a lot, but I also adopted a Logitech Trackball, like this... [url="https://www.amazon.fr/Logitech-Souris-laser-trackball-Boutons/dp/B0042BBR2S/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1507572644&sr=8-19&keywords=logitech+trackball"]Amazon: Logitech Trackball ...[/url] In the years left, I had no further wrist problems; I now use that same Trackball at home; no more carpal tunnel issues. Worth a thought, maybe..? -
