  1. Best idea on BC since... Well, since the last Very Good Idea. Excellent page layout, simple to use (even for non-drummers...). I've a fairly extensive 'collection' of disparate songs, standards and others, but in very varied formats. This is about the best I've seen, and I'd be interested in adding to my library. Stout work, sir; you're a Good Egg for making such effort available. Have a resounding hand...
  2. Just goes to show what a lousy advocate for the Devil I'd make..! OK, then, I'll desist and agree that bland is bland..! I, too, like to look for (and, even better, find..!) another angle than the tired old tried and tested, easy-peasy chords and harmonies. I do still use 'em, though, when inspiration once again eludes me..! Long live the whole palette of musical shades and colours.
  3. Good afternoon, ESL , and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  4. Good afternoon, Oomworthy, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  5. I'll recommend this ... Mickey Baker's Complete Course in Jazz Guitar ... ... as a lasting method that'll be useful to you for years.
  6. What..? No prizes..? [Dragon's Den] I'm out..! [/Dragon's Den] ...

  8. But isn't that a bit like saying 'Avoid using green when painting forest scenes'..?

  12. ... and the vocals..?
  13. Duo ^^ ..? That's a lot of tracks to play and sing at once for a duo..!
  14. Good evening, Ryan, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  15. Real 'old school', just how I like it..!
  16. Again, I'd take issue with this. There are, I agree, several hundreds of excellent, top-quality songs written and performed by the likes of Sting and co, there's no denying, but to state that 'ornery folks' can't write great stuff too is, I contend, false. An absolute judgement of comparative quality is pointless, but I have CD's of excellent amateur or semi-pro musicians doing their own compositions, often with strong local success. I'll post an early video from Kiemsa as an example. I doubt if it rings a bell with any of you, but I'd put its level of composition up (in its genre...) as good as any. Here's 'L'Atelier Fantôme', then. No good..? No good at all..? Hmm...
  17. I'm not sure that I agree totally with this. I've assisted at concerts over many decades, and have excellent souvenirs of original stuff played by local bands in the late '60s and early '70s, despite advancing age. I toured (as a lighter...) with our Eldest's punk/rock/ska band for a few years, too, who played exclusively their own stuff, either supporting or being supported by equally talented originals bands; they left a lasting impression for the most part. It's true that I'm not an attendee at pubs, discos, raves nor dance-halls, so have absolutely no exposition to whatever is 'popular' or being played on those circuits. To me, Mustang Sally will be much the same as an 'original', if ever I get to hear it.
  18. Good call; ordered. Thanks for the tip-off. I remember leaving the Kingston College concert, circa 1972, before they set the place afire with their pyrotechnics. Long drape curtains all around the hall; a recipe for disaster..! It all ended well, of course, but I listened to the finale from outside; I felt safer..! Heady daze.
  19. Good evening, Kev, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  20. It may help obtain usable replies if you could give some indication of the style of original material you're playing..? Any reference bands with similar outlook..? Some idea of the venues and rehearsal rooms you're going to come across would help, too, as would a general idea of your budget (if any...). There are many players with no amp at all; others with stadium-proportion rigs, and all sizes in between. A bit of Precision, please..?
  21. Good afternoon, Deco, and ... Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  22. An exercise in restraint, eh..? Well done for succeeding, along with a tasteful drummer. Playing to/for the room. Personally, I'd say it's a case of 'casting your pearls before swine', what with the background chatter, but all credit to you all for giving them the opportunity of listening to some quality playing. Stunning bass and drums solos; there was even an applaw..!. Good Stuff, old chum; congratulations to all involved, and thanks for sharing. It's brightened up my afternoon quite nicely.
