  1. [quote name='Bilbo' timestamp='1506839965' post='3381374'] Go me. October picture selected. Shall I send it to you, Dad, or to Paul? [/quote] Officially, it's Paul running the show, and I wouldn't want to cross swords with such a figure, so Paul it is, please. On another note, I'm surprised that no-one seems to have picked up on my joke (too carefully hidden, I suppose...), in using (and abusing..!) the theme from Doom (ring a bell with anyone..?) as base (and bass..!) for my track..! No gamers here, then..? No mis-spent, lost youth..? No..? Oh well; I thought it funny, s'all.
  2. [left][size=4][color="#222222"][font="Arial, sans-serif"][size=4]And the winner is... Bilbo..! [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167486] Here, then, is your Winner's Certificate (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ...[/size][/font][/color] [attachment=254693:BC_Chal_Cert_2017_09.pdf] [color="#222222"][font="Arial, sans-serif"][size=4]... which looks like this (but bigger, of course..!)… [/size][/font][/color][/size][/left]
  3. Good evening, Ian, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share.
  4. [quote name='cheddatom' timestamp='1506778801' post='3381072'] It's not really about expectations. Sometimes I know for sure it's going to be a great gig, but I'm still not in the right mood to play If I'm not in the mood I have to really try hard to concentrate and focus, I get annoyed by the slightest mistakes, I get too tense which can hurt physically etc. If I'm in the mood then everything is just easy, and even if I'm making small mistakes, they're just fleeting insignificant moments I'm mainly gigging on drums by the way, can't remember if I got this on bass [/quote] I'm a drummer. After several years of 'pro' playing, I asked a friend, a drum teacher, if he could give me lessons. When we got down to it, and after auditioning my playing, he told me he didn't see much point in going over technical aspects, but instead set up a programme of breathing and relaxation/posture sessions instead. The difference astounded me; after a few weeks, I was much more able to get 'into the zone', simply by going through some elementary routines, not dissimilar to yoga, but without the meditation stuff. I should perhaps say that, from birth, I have had duff breathing (early tuberculosis...) and stamina issues (duff adrenal glands...), and these 'lessons' enabled me to make the most of what limited capacities I had in these matters. I'd suggest, therefore, seeing if there's something other than technique that you could look for in a good drum teacher, focusing on relaxation and posture rather than rudiments. Any mileage in such an approach..? Hope this helps.
  5. Good morning, Ben... I'm not familiar with that particular manufacturer, but I'd guess that it's a student sax, very probably Chinese-made. This is not necessarily a bad thing; they make some very good beginner's saxes. The starting price for these models, new, would be around £250-£300, so, if yours is of this ilk, its second-hand price would be less, maybe as much as half of that. This is only rule-of-thumb, of course, as I've not seen the instrument in question. If you decide to keep it, I would highly recommend finding a good sax tutor, as it's an instrument which beggars very little improvisation in its techniques, and a good teacher from the outset is vital for decent results. The disciplines involved are, however, very rewarding, if the initial effort is put in. Hope this helps; subject to completion, correction and/or contradiction from others.
  6. [quote name='ThePapabull' timestamp='1506732807' post='3380805'] Thanks tro all ps Im [b]in newport s wales[/b] [/quote][quote name='Bolo' timestamp='1506761870' post='3380913'] Look for a [b]BC member[/b], or a luthier near you [b]who can help with a proper set-up[/b]. [/quote] Any kind gent (or lady...) able to help..? There are also many bass tutors in the '[url="http://basschat.co.uk/forum/26-tutors-available/"]Tutors Available[/url]' section from Swansea, Bristol or South Wales in general. Maybe worth contacting one of them for advice..?
  7. Gator GRB range..? £36 from Thomann.UK, or Millenium from same, £30. If you don't want to mount it, just don't screw the head in, maybe..? It can then be slid in or out at will. Hope this helps.

  10. It might be a good idea to give your location; there may be a BCer local to you who could give some 'hand's on' tips, either at your place or his..? Setting up a bass is not that difficult (assuming it not to be busted or really bad quality...), but best to have the instrument present, and someone competent to show how it's done. Worth a try, maybe..?
  11. My main bass, a Hofner Verithin, an OLP 4-string baritone guitar/bass, our youngest's 5-string Cort and my Douglas 6-string fretless. A whole load of guitars, drums, keys and other stuff, but the poll says 'Bass types', so...
  12. [quote name='lowdown' timestamp='1506712417' post='3380667'] Oh no !! He's only gone and messed it up. EDIT: Sorry Dad, I typed, then the phone rang at about 8:05. I came back and posted, and you had already got in with your groveling. [/quote] No, no; go ahead. [i]Mea culpa[/i], as they say in Rome. Me..? Sackcloth and ashes, I'm afraid. S'not the first time I've shot myself in the foot, and probably not the last, either. 'Once a dumpling, always a dumpling'; that's what. Edit: You [i]have [/i]voted now, I trust..?
  13. [quote name='lurksalot' timestamp='1506708929' post='3380624'] I think your enthusiasm commendable my friend , but does the French calendar need another day adding in September to bring it in line with the UK version . [/quote] Indeed it does. Jumping the gun, eh..? Yes, it's Saturday midnight, not tonight..! OK, folks, a whole day left to do the deed..! Don't waste it. (Cheers, Lurks; I nearly got myself pasted up as a right fool there, didn't I..? Luckily no-one has noticed, eh..? )
  14. [quote name='lowdown' timestamp='1506708954' post='3380627'] I remember a few years back, asking you the question. I thought it was because you had three Gibsons.. [/quote] Well guessed, although I'm only rich enough (or poor enough..?) to have a Samick 335. She plays and sounds better than many 'real' 335's I've come across, so not fussed. (... and thanks for giving me the meagre excuse I needed to go and fetch her out of hiding; I'll be playing her by the time you read this, I expect... ) Edit: It becomes immediately obvious that I've neglected her for far too long, as, despite still being in tune, the old Fender Bullets are quite rusty; more so, even, than my old fingers..! I'll give her a good ol' clean (pots, switches...) and treat her to a fresh set of Elixirs. That'll sort her out for a few years yet..! Still plays like a corker, though, despite the rust..!

  16. Good afternoon, folks... Once again, due to the high quality of the entries this month, we're heading towards a tie for winner. It's been done before (and we can handle it...), but there is still time to give the tracks a listen and [b][i]vote for three[/i][/b] (That's right, [i][color=#ff0000][b]three..![/b][/color][/i]) that you particularly liked. We may yet produce an outright winner; it's down to you (Yes, you out there. No point looking over your shoulder...). The link is here; it's a s easy as following it and giving 'em a listen. Enjoy..! 17. [quote name='Jezzer1' timestamp='1506679947' post='3380348'] Yes, haven't quite figured out how to post pictures yet... [/quote] How to post pics ... Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Flickr, Imgur or Imgbb is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Others are similar (assuming use of a PC; I no nothing of other devices...). Hope this helps...

  23. Whilst we're on the subject, am I allowed a small (well, medium, really...) rant..? Please..? Not too long, I promise, although... Oh, thank you; here I go, then... There are a number of ads for multiple items (which is fine...), where the title contains the word 'Sold' referring to only one or two of the items, not the whole lot..! Result: I'm searching through for 'key' words, and these ads trip every time, but are not really candidates for closure. Could I respectfully suggest that this practice cease immediately..? If the ad is to be kept, how about substituting 'Gone', or 'Bought'; anything except 'Sold'..? Reserve that for signalling the final closure of the whole topic, that it be closed completely. If anyone recognises this in their own ads, I'd be grateful if they could pop along to their ad and amend the title in this way. My 'housekeeping' would be that much simplified (it's already quite an arduous task...). Thanks in advance for bearing this in mind for future posts, and be doubly thanked for going back and 'correcting' any open Sales ads of the sort. Rant over; stand down, men, and carry on.
