I'd say that 'mod' still means 'mods and rockers' in the same way as 'in Roman times' means, by implication, the Roman Empire, not modern Rome.

We're back to the question: 'Popular with whom..?' Anyhow, here's the Oxford definition, which must be right... ADJECTIVE 1 - Attributive: Relating to commercial popular music. ‘pop singers’ ‘a pop concert’ 2 - Derogatory attributive (especially of a scientific or academic subject): Made accessible to the general public; popularized. ‘pop psychology’ NOUN 1 - Mass noun: Commercial popular music, in particular accessible, tuneful music of a kind popular since the 1950s and sometimes contrasted with rock, soul, or other forms of popular music. ‘Their quasi-psychedelic pop is pleasantly uplifting and danceable.’ 1.1 - dated count, noun: A pop record or song.

Another 'fight to the finish', with another host of top tunes and songs, across a wide spectrum of interpretations. Good Stuff, everyone. As joint winner, I should like to take this opportunity to thank all those who voted for my piece, and also my Manager, Bob (Stand up, Bob; let the folks see what you look like...), my agents, Carver and Pileup, plus, of course, my doting family who have supported me, in many senses of the word, throughout this long and laborious ordeal. I'll end by thanking someone unable to be with us this evening, but without whom I'd not be here: my parents. Thank you; thank you all. Now, on with the ceremony...

20 minutes, eh..? Felt like longer.

Often enough I can prepare the winner's Certificate slightly in advance; this evening it doesn't look as if that's going to be the case. Sorry, then, folks, if there's a shortish delay between the stroke of midnight and the presentation to the winner(s...). Sigh..!

Rickenbacker Bass Gets Outed For What It Is
Dad3353 replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
...They are an iconic looking bass...
A full-size photo pinned to the wall could scratch that itch, perhaps..? -
Could a mixer connect to the interface works?
It would work, but the mix would be fixed, once the recording is finished. No re-mix afterwards, as it would now be only stereo, and no removing 'flubs' after the event. In passing, I'd suggest that one can achieve excellent drum recordings with only one mic, or two. Is this for recording for your personal use, or to take on recording of other folks..? That might change the vision of what's best.

Metal and classical together - any thoughts
Dad3353 replied to dmccombe7's topic in General Discussion
To answer the original question, technically, it's impressive. Musically, it's empty. Imho, of course.
This could be said of pretty well any musical genre, and beyond, if we want to include sculpture, architecture, water-colours... A lot of 'metal' is also, perhaps, technically impressive but bereft of substance, as is a fair amount of 'classical' music, or 'jazz', or 'pop' or ... -
I would see this as being more like a full-time job, with a salary to match. There is a difference in approach between taking one's garden shears and clipping the hedge of a week-end, and doing it day in, day out as a professional council gardener, or changing the oil on one's car and being a garage mechanic. Four hours per stint is quite do-able, and the final salary, whilst not being enough to afford a Bentley (other high-cost cars are available...), it would certainly pay the rent for many. It's work, not just 'fun' for a night out. Would I do it..? Back then, I played for much longer for much less pay than that, and my playing improved no end as a consequence. Would I do it today..? Would that I could (physically...), but if I were young and fit again, I'd certainly give it a go. There are some here bemoaning the lack of live music. Well, here's an opportunity to redress that, in part. Just my tuppence-worth.

Good afternoon, Nothingman (..?), and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Welcome back. I've 'Reported' your post, asking if a Mega-God could come down from the Giddy Heights and change your User Name (I'm guessing '...nam' should become '...man'..?). We'll see what transpires; don't be alarmed by the accompanying clap of thunder, that 's just them showing off.
I liked the play of the day, sometimes brought to notice things I'd missed on first listen. Still waiting for my back-reviews, when you feel up to it
Be careful for what you wish ... PM sent.

My fundamental limitation is my health, which prevents me from playing 'live' most of my compositions. I'm a drummer (or rather, was, nowadays... ), so have few qualms in being able to get that part sorted. My bass and guitar are (were..?) at least reasonable, and some of my offerings in the past have been played 'live', so it can be done, often enough. My keys are rather poor, but I can do things in slow tempos, or double 'em up for more complex chords. The real bugger is the orchestral instruments, as that is what usually springs into my mind, depending on the picture. Even if I had access to trombones and baritone saxes, the racket produced would be worse still than Lenny..! Once I get an idea, though, it usually 'flows' until I stop, often many hours later. A short break for tea or a glass of milk and it's back to the PC whilst I can. As above, I get it all down, then leave it for a few days; when I listen back I, too, sometimes wonder who the heck did all that (and why..!). Occasionally I'll find something that needs tweaking in the mix, or a passage that grates, and so render a new version to be uploaded, but it's rare. Maybe I'm just easily pleased..! Ideally, I'd like to be able to play more 'real' instruments, and hope to do so; until then, I'll do what I can from my 'pica' studio (my armchair...) and watch the votes roll in. To be honest, I do allow myself a touch of frustration when an superb interplay between a subtle drum part and a great bass line go un-remarked, but I'm sure all of us have these same feelings. That was one of the reasons for doing my 'Play Of The Day' posts; to give some recognition to all who took the time and trouble to enter, only to be greeted with what sometimes felt like stony silence. I'll really try to push myself and start that up again. Next month, I promise (if I can... ).
