Here's mine, too, equally inspired by the beast's progression ... [url="https://soundcloud.com/dad3353/inexorable-what-goes-up-must-come-down"]Inexorable (What goes up must come down...) ...[/url] Something of a tone poem, really, or atmospheric piece, rather than EDM. I was looking to create a sense of both the immediate and yet the eternal; the ephemera and the timeless. A touch of human in an insentient landscape, an incongruous passage past the immobile monuments. There's a couple of 'jokes' in there, too, in both the form (a pyramid waveform...) and the repeated rising and falling of both the 'melody' and the key; some may recognise the Circle of Fifths being once again abused. Incidentally, the scale used is not authentic Egyptian, despite its familiarity; it's really the Hungarian scale, which better serves my purposes, being symmetrical (the twelve semi-tones are spaced 1-3-1-2-1-3-1...), as is a pyramid..! Kontakt 'World Percussion' for the darbukas (playing in 7/4 and 4/4 time...), a Ruby acoustic bass, Kontakt Pearl piano, a snatch of Desert Song and some home-generated samples of oud snippets, all sanded down with some slightly complex desert winds, made up of three instances of the Wind module by Xoxos (Sounds Of Nature...). Quite definitely a duff site and a rotten test. It gave me a result of 'Under 25'..! I'll turn 67 in a few days (no cards, please, just postal orders...) and the tests that were done before I retired showed up what I already knew: very severe deafness, above that normal for my age..! My ears are 'shot' (a technical term...), as can be witnessed by those listening to my mixes for the Basschat Composition Challenge. Under 25..? Don't make me laff ('cos it hurts...)..! Rubbish, I say; rubbish.

[/quote] Our eldest writes and records stuff; we've quite a decent mini-studio here. It's more in the vein of 'Pierre Boulez meets NIN', though, and not much use for the modest five-piece that we are. In my entire life, I've written three or four 'songs', and re-written a couple from memory of bands I played with in the UK, long defunct. These, too, are not the material that our formation would be interested in playing (I've tried; [i]peine perdue[/i]..! ), being in a pseudo 'jazz-bossa' vein that brings our lads out in spots (they've heard me playing 'em ever since they were born; maybe before..! ) If you want a taste of my own compositional 'skills', I would refer you to my entries in the Basschat Composition Challenge most months; I've a Soundcloud where they (and more...) are free for anyone to listen to, including several especially created for integrating into RPG video games I have done which pleased some. You'll maybe understand better exactly why we play covers for lack of adequate home-grown repertoire suitable for pubs, clubs and/or concerts..!

Originality can only work if there's someone (or more...) in the band capable and willing to write songs..! In our band, that's not the case, so our options are either to: 1 - play covers or 2 - play nothing. We choose the songs we want to play (and we're capable of playing...) and do that. Simple. There's really nothing special or magical in playing original material, especially if it's not very good in the first place.

It would appear that you could benefit from a short, intensive course on the whole subject. There's a lot to it; it might be worth your while to invest a bit of time and money in decent training..? We still don't know if this is just to record yourself, or to create a commercial recording studio, though.

It's true that a rechargeable won't last as long as a dry cell, and that I'm not gigging with mine, but I use one rechargeable for my active basses (a Cort fiver. and a Douglas six-string..) and my guitar pedals (various Boss-type stuff...). I don't use 'em at the same time, so only need the one. Not used every day, either, but I'm only charging it up every six months or so; it's never clapped out on me whilst playing. If I was gigging, I'd do the same, but have a charged-up spare, just in case, and maybe charge up the night before. It's been a very, very long time (several decades...) since I last bought a 9v battery..!
