It's the ears that need to become trained to hear correct tuning, whatever method is used. Here's a link to a guitar page explaining several diferent ways, equally applicable to bass. It's worth going over each of these methods, and using more than one method as a 'cross-check'... [url="http://www.wikihow.com/Tune-a-Guitar"]4 Ways To Tune A Guitar ...[/url] None of these methods will give good results if the bass itself is not set up correctly, especially the intonation (meaning having all the notes, all the way up the neck, correct when the open string is correct...). If you're not familiar with this, look it up on t'web, and/or have a chat with a decent guitar or bass tech to get the instrument set up to its best. Hope this helps.

The Kontakt catalogue is vast, but it depends on the direction you wish to explore as to which are a good choice. A good sampler is always useful (Tx16Wx is great, imo...), and the Toontracks EZ range are useful, too. Enough for now..? Try a few freebies first, and see what direction opens up before you. Go on; surprise yourself. You know it makes sense..!

One can learn a lot from learning; this includes not only the technique of playing an instrument, but also how various instruments fit together (or not..!). I play drums, and dabble (a technical term...) in guitar, bass, some keys, but mostly Vst instruments of all sorts, including singing voices. It costs little; there are many free, or quite inexpensive, packages out there waiting to be adopted. Virtuoso..? Certainly not, but most folks with a grain of 'noddle' would be able to find inspiration somewhere in there, and more than half the fun is in the experimentation, including the failures..! I'm not sure that Sibelius or Mozart were experienced players of all the instruments they wrote for, either, so I consider that at least I'm in good company, even if not (quite, yet...) up to their mark. Just my tuppence-worth; no malice intended.

As long as the singer is using only either of the two common notes, I don't see the issue of singing F# over F. No-one would know.

[/quote] His 'point', I think I'm right in expanding, is that some acts (DT being just one example...) have many followers who are very appreciative of their heroes, but equally very critical in their expectations. Other shows are more 'background music', in which the general 'ambience' is more important than the technical exactitude, as few, if any, are listening so intently to the band. That's not to say that the bands in question should play to a low(er...) standard, simply that the attention is different. You did this yourself, I believe, when watching the Frampton show; you were (unconsciously..?) listening out for errors, where your own audience were just dancing to your blues beat. I hope I've not betrayed his intentions here.
