... Many cover bands will do a range of tunes from a variety of genres. What works for one song won't be right for another...
What does your drummer do to match his (or her...) kit to all these various and varied styles..? Change snare for each..? Damp his kit, or tune up, or down..? Swap cymbals..? Go from the maple kit to the Vistalite..? I doubt he (or she...) does any of this. The one kit will suffice throughout the gig, but his (or her...) playing style will adapt. Maybe a switch to brushes, or mallets, but even that is quite rare. No, it's all in the fingers, or, in the case of drummers, in the wrists. Can be different with an electro-kit, I'll allow, but even then, only the most sophisticated e-drums can carry off authenticity over all genres. As others have said above, play your best with what you have and adapt your playing as best as possible, and that's fine. I wouldn't even dream of trying to imitate the original; at best, I'd be inspired by it, but no more. Just my tuppence-worth.
... Feedback/mickey taking quite welcome.
Dat nice..! No brickbats from me, just 'Respect', and well done, the pair of you. Authentic string slaps on the fingerboard, sympathetic phrasing, sensitive singing; what's not to like..? My thumb is up and my cap duly doffed; thanks for sharing.
Try the last plugin I posted that one is particularly good, another one to look is the Ignite Amps SHB-1 that one is good
Cheers, not too impressed with the Viper either, but the Ignite sounds better to me. It's all good, they just need matching to the particular project. It's true that I rarely use overdrive or distortion on bass, for instance, either virtual or playing 'live', but sometimes (just sometimes...) a bit of 'grit' sounds OK. No, not often, but sometimes.
...Can anyone help out with some simple scores?
Would Guitar Pro be of any help there..? It's not expensive (75€...), and there's a huge catalogue of pretty well all styles and periods to choose from. I've a collection of 23,000 files, for instance, weighing 900Mb; most of these files have an excellent bass part (plus the other instruments...) in both tab and dots, correctly annotated and easy to read. I'd send it to you, but you'd need GP to be able to read 'em. I've attached a couple, taken at random, in Pdf format as 'teasers'. Any use to you..?
... Anyway, do check it out ...
No tuning problems there of note, and the laptop mic is doing a fine job picking up the essentials, so well done, there. Well done, too, for choosing a tune to cover that has no bass at all at the start..! I'd never heard it (I don't think I'd recognise a Coldplay tune anyway, as I'm old..! ), but your rendition seemed fine enough. A word, though, if I may, without being too 'picky' or cruel..? The notes that you're playing are correct, and the timing pretty good, but I see that your body is reacting to the syncopated beat of the bass notes. Could I suggest that you experiment with moving to the underlying beat of the music (the 4/4 flow...), instead of the jagged bass line..? Do you tap your foot, for instance, to the beat; I suspect not. Why do I say this..? Well, music, as a whole, is not just the bass, but an ensemble of all the instruments, and a major part of the 'glue' that binds it all together is the overall rhythm that all are (usually...) playing to. Moving to this rhythm would, I'd say, make more 'sense' of what you're playing, and integrate your notes into the whole. Maybe it's because I'm a drummer, of course, but that's how I feel there could be more improvement yet. Just sayin'; hope this helps. Bravo, then, and well done, again; thanks for sharing.

My experience (over decades...) of drummers on the Continent would echo the above ^^; I've very rarely seen any of 'em 'playing for themselves', at pro or semi-pro level, at concerts or festivals. Most (not all, but the vast majority...) are playing to the needs of the music, in whatever style, form trip-hop break-beat through to hard metal and all points west. As a drummer myself, I'd probably be more attentive to this than other instruments, so I wouldn't like to pronounce regarding guitars or keys, and I wouldn't be able to tell whether any musician has received formal tuition or not, so I would leave that out of the equation. I have found, though, that most drummers can read for percussion, at least (for the timing...), and many have at least a smattering of keyboard knowledge, too (for the notions of harmony, and for playing tuned percussion...). From the many US bands I've watched, I've not noticed any major difference in attitude; I wouldn't know of the more local US talent that don't tour Europe, though.
I used the first one they released and didn't like the fact that even though it was free it would stop working after 30 mins. I hope they had changed this. Will try it as I liked the first one, it sounded great.
It now come with a serial n°, and so should no longer have the time limitation. I tried it out, but would use it for more than 30 minutes in any case; I far prefer my Amplitube Hiwatt sim (well, they call it HiAmp, but whatever...) for bass. I found the GK to be, in general, excessively muddy, and the tone controls particularly ineffective. I'll try again another day when I have another bass line to create, so all is not lost (but the Hiwatt is very good indeed, so... ).

As per title; surfing the BC forum is very sluggish this evening. Other sites I browse regularly are as normal; only BC is much slower than usual. Anyone else having the same experience..?

For those having this recurrent issue, have you tried flushing your browsers cache..? Each browser has its own method, but it's usually in the 'Tools' section or similar. Certain stuff could be hiding in there, bringing the problem back on your local machine even if it's been fixed elsewhere. Just sayin'; hope this helps.
... My opinion is, that if you have an amateur attitude to whether or not you get paid for your music, you'll also have an amateur attitude to the music.
... and my opinion is that there is no correlation; one's attitude to music has nothing to do with being paid, for very many folks, including very many fine musicians. I'd cite, as only one of many examples, the excellent amateur orchestras that thrive all around the planet, including the UK. There are others (folk bands, Morris men, ethnic groups everywhere; even many rock groups...)...
Bonkers, but a fantastic watch.
As brilliantly illustrated in the video above ^^, a great deal of the expressivity comes from the interplay between the instruments and the song, the story, the lyrics. Even in classical 'orchestral' music, there is an underlying story, with its ultimate expression in the form of opera. The music, in the majority of modern music, is a support for the text, with much meaning stripped away without that all-important part of the ensemble. Try thinking the words, and their meaning and feel, while playing, not just the notes of your instrument. Sing along, if you can; that, in itself, is good practice. Just my tuppence-worth.

Good afternoon, Marc, and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Nice bass; good call. Lessons, even a couple, from a genuine bass teacher, are worth every penny. None near you ..? Maybe have a look in the BC Tutors Available ... section..?
