The Isle of Jersey, and several others, still have their 'special' position concerning taxes, I believe. It's maybe 'fixed' for Amazon etc (I'm not really convinced, as it happens...), but there are still gaping 'loopholes' for the fiscally astute to benefit from.
 2.
Still a drop in the ocean when compared to what G4S, Amazon and google etc don't pay.
Maybe, but that's looking over one's shoulder; there's principles involved, whoever the 'other crooks' are. On the other hand, it certainly makes our option of not playing for payment much easier on the conscience, anyway..! TheTaxman is welcome to his share of nowt..!
 3.
Indeed. The report this morning suggested that this 'gig economy' is worth in the region of £6 billion a year. I'm not sure if that was 6 billion total turnover or a potential £6 billion in lost taxes. Makes you think either way.
Lost tax revenue was how I understood it
 4.
... If it makes money its a taxable endeavour. If it makes a loss its a hobby.
So by that token, running 'Soundcloud' would be a hobby, then..?
 5.
... shame we can't read your band's name on the shirt though, kinda defeats the purpose no?...
T'would seem that they don't have Specsavers Down Under. Looks to be perfectly readable to my old eyes.
 6.
I will not live this whole time
Rubbish..! At ten hours a day, that's only three years..!
 7.
Unless of course the instrument doesn't sell...
... but which case could be esteemed to be covered by the 20% of all the successful sales. Just sayin'.
 8.
So, I'll never be a good bass player?!? Perhaps, a mediocre bass player is the maximum I can reach
Some folks never reach even that standard, despite starting from a much earlier age. Don't ask how I know this.
 9.
... Thank you Dad3353, it looks like I will have enough work for a long time with this book and I think that is what I really wanted, and I am sure that I will be able to apply what I will learn from that into my needs.
My usual words of encouragement apply, to this as with so many endeavours... It's the first forty years that are the worst, after which things sometimes tend to get (slightly...) better. Have fun.
 10.
Due to weather, I thought I'd see what I could do in 2 1/2 hours...
We'll have to hope for another hour or so of similar weather, so that you can sort out the mix, and get it right. ...
 11.
Yes, I portuguese.
... and lives in Portugal.
 12.
I had to look up what "autodidact" meant...
Ha..! That's a word I learned all by myself..!
 13.
You don't say where you are...
He's already mentioned Portugal, I believe.
 14.
... I remember something where they were comparing themselves to The Beatles or something like that. So, they were off my radar from jump...
Why would that be..? Don't you like the Beatles..?
 15. I've had close calls at festivals concerning the band's sound guy; here's an anecdote posted before ... Keziah Jones at 3 Elephants summer festival ... 'Substances' (sometimes liquid...) can be responsible for much, I'd say.
 16. I've not listened to this , but many are able to distinguish Chopin after just a few bars; even the great JJ Cale could sound a bit 'samey' at times. I'll not go down the old 'AC/DC' path, nor ZZ Top, though.
 17.
...If you're interested in them at all...
My good lady has much patience and understanding, but where £30-odd quid for a software suite passes, bigger bucks would cause a bit more than friction, I'm afraid. I content myself with the thought that, in my case at least, it's not the resources available that inspiration, nor higher quality execution; bits of string and oodles of patience bring as good a result as I'm capable of in any case. Just as well I'm 'skint', though, or I'd need to build another extension..!
 18.
... That old rack synth module sounds interesting! Ever thought of sampling the sounds from it?
A project for a long winter, I suppose; I'll put it on my 'To do' list...
 19.
Komplete software and hardware bundles on offer at absolute music, ends today (10th July)
Ordered, but the payment process has got stuck, not recognising the delivery method (downloadable software, so...). I've sent off a PM to 'em asking how to proceed, we'll see what transpires.
 20.
Over the last dozen years I've listened to all their albums...
Some folks get nothing from opera, others cannot understand the popularity of rap. There are even those that never 'connect' with folk music or free jazz (or so I'm told...). Well, that's just the way of the world, innit..? Enjoy what you enjoy and leave the rest if it's not for you.
 21. You may like to cast a glance at the numerous offers the the forum Marketplace ... Basses For Sale ... Some bargains (several nice instruments at £300 or less...), many (or most..?) are already well set up; there may be someone local to you, too. Worth a look..?
 22.
...or not!...
No, that's too cruel, and really unjustified. There is, somewhere in the Universe, on a far-flung planet, a place for music of the sort. There, Capt. Beefheart is revered, the lyrics of Doors tracks are fully understood and Canned Heat drones resound endlessly around the vast plains. Meals are taken out on the gun emplacement, thus avoiding unnecessary queuing for a seat on the quarterdeck. No anger, no violence, no angst, just the incessant driving forward (or not...) of the musical boundaries that encircle that globe. Yes, it is in rapid expansion; inevitably our dear planet Earth will become, in time (probably 4/4...), engulfed in the raucous circus of it all, and we'll thank Lenny for having brought it to our ears first. Or not. Mighty meaty, matey; thanks for sharing.
 23.
... Here's a soundfile of Alicia's Keys piano playing a low C note through it...
That sounds exactly like my very first all-transistor guitar amp build, back in the late '60s..! I did, eventually, manage to fix it, though; I wish you the same success. ... (Incidentally, we have an old D110 rack synth module which has lost all control; we use it (occasionally...) for genuinely random sounds. Sometimes bleeping like Telstar, ramping up and down the frequencies whistling, or imitating a stranded blue whale; we never know, nor can produce twice, what will come out. Useful, sometimes (but not often, I'll admit. More nostalgia value, really...).
 24.
... Will appreciate any help on that topic.
You could do worse that this, for the very modest cost... Mickey Baker's Complete Course In Jazz Guitar .. Don't be put off by the title; have a look inside (or buy it on 'spec; it's worth every penny, whatever...), and give it a go. I bought this (in ignorance, at the time...) nearly fifty years ago, and still go through it now and again (I've bought it several times over, as copies got lost or worn out...). There is a Book 2, which is equally excellent, but start off with the first one, then go wild and splash out on the follow-up when you're ready. Just my tuppence-worth; hope this helps.
