Not much scope for 'showrooming' in my corner of the planet, and I can do a set-up as well as most shops, at least. No problem with buying unseen on t'web, either new or s/h; I trust my own judgement and accept the consequences. I've yet to be disappointed. I did, once (no, come to think of it; twice..!) buy from a shop; both were 'impulse' buys, in that the guitars in question were screaming at me 'Buy me..! Buy me..!' and I didn't want to leave 'em like that. My drums, too, came from a shop, but I didn't get to try 'em until I got home, so... To each his/her own, of course.

I'll 'Report' this, and see what explanation comes up. A bit of patience, please..? [Terminator] 'I'll be back...' [/Terminator]
... I'd say that fun, enjoyment and satisfaction are very different things and probably shouldn't be mixed up when you're playing in a band.
... and I would respectfully say 'Tosh..!' to this rather Puritanical attitude. To me, 'fun, enjoyment and satisfaction ' are the very staff of life itself, to be sought for in every minute of one's existence (provided it's not at other's expense...). S'a funny ol' world. -

A great improvement (at times, briefly, I even fancy it's almost listenable..!), well done. On another note, I hope the fiddle did you some good, too.

True, my ears are 'shot' (a technical term...), but I can't hear any pitch correction in that clip. True, there's a 'framptonesque' voice box, but that's not the same as vocoding, I'd say, and is certainly not 'cheating'. All in all, the sessions I've listened to seem to be exemplary for the clarity of the take, especially as a 'live', all together one-shot, and special mention must go to the drummers, each able to put to rest the myth that drums have to be loud. Not many of the artists are wearing ear protection, it seems; the one or two I've seen are rather using iem's. Good Stuff all round, and a Good Find; thanks for posting 'em.

It'll work just about as fine as normal FOH, where the cabs are facing the audience, and the monitoring directed back to the musicians. There are no more (nor less...) counter-indications than if you were playing 'amp-less' through DI, straight into a traditional PA. Ideally, one should adjust the front-facing ('FOH'...) cab to a level which may be different from the 'monitor' cab facing you, but that's all I can think of, and would not be catastrophic if you're sensible, I'd say. Sounds good to me as a workable method.
never a truer word said! there's a clue in the name 'theory' I think ;-)
Indeed...
Theory... Earlier in this sense was theorical (n.), late 15c. Sense of "principles or methods of a science or art" (rather than its practice) is first recorded 1610's (as in music theory, which is the science of musical composition, apart from practice or performance). Sense of "an intelligible explanation based on observation and reasoning" is from 1630's.

...they must be daft!
...or enthusiastic..?
...almost like well it doesn't follow the rules so we'll make up a new one up
But that's exactly what happened (and continues to happen...). It doesn't obey the original classical rules, but once dominant scales and Major/Minor chords started to be 'allowed' (ie: used..!), the rules were updated to reflect this...
...Early on in common practice music the V7 chord construction was frequently encountered (note: the dominant seventh of the current key is meant...); over time, the name "dominant seventh" came to be applied to any major triad with a flattened seventh degree, even when one is not dealing with the dominant of the current tonality. C7 is, in the most literal sense, the dominant triad, with an added seventh, in the key of F major. One of the most common uses of the dominant, fifth (V), chord is in a perfect cadence, V->I. Although this is done with just triads, including the seventh of the dominant chord reinforces the finality of the cadence. Over time, the designation of these "dominant seventh" chords expanded to any (major) chord involving the flattened seventh degree...
The 7th chord with all diatonic notes (ie: a 'B' in the key of C...) would be a Maj7. There are other 7th chords, too.

Playing with DMX before having actual lights
Dad3353 replied to charic's topic in General Discussion
I'll have a look! Can it simulate what a stage would look like too?
Indeed you can, with structures, drum risers and more. The fixtures (lights...) can be placed anywhere, on flying trusses, or side-lit, footlights, balcony spots etc. There's quite a few pics on the Sunlite site that will give some idea. I found it easy enough to use (and I'm a dummy..! ), although it takes a bit of practise to 'tweak' the results once one arrives at the real venue (setting the Dmx channels, correcting tilt/pan angles, retouching gobos and colours...), but we did some mighty fine shows with the stuff, far better than I could have done on an unfamiliar manual console at the time. Fun, too..! Towards the end, I had a lot of the show on semi-automatic, and could allow the software to run, adding manual touches on top. Happy daze. -
Playing with DMX before having actual lights
Dad3353 replied to charic's topic in General Discussion
Any way to do this?...
Yes, using 'Sunlite', see here ... Sunlite Suite ... ... which has a very good 3D visualiser. I used this stuff for several years with Kiemsa, a punk/rock/ska group, programming their lights at home, then spending the week-end with them doing the show with a laptop. There's now a more sophisticated version; both are free to download and use fully; they need the dedicated DMX box to do the real controlling, but work perfectly well for simulation, including stage layout and props. Worth a look..? -
Good morning, Tom , and ... [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167528] Plenty to read and amuse you here, and lots to learn and share. Our youngest (coincidentally also names Tom..!) had expressed an interest in playing bass, a few years ago, but wanted, from the outset, a five-string active bass (I already had 4-stringers, but he wanted his own, so...). We bought him a Cort fiver; shortly afterwards I received as a present from our eldest a fretless 6-string, which Tom immediately adopted, and has played nothing since. He learned fast, and quickly become the 'official' bassist in our pop/rock covers band (I play drums, our eldest guitar, plus two buddies...), playing stuff from Muse, RATM, Deus and much more. The scale length, neck width and lack of frets has not made the slightest difference to his progress; he just went with it and ran, although he's more on the 'slightly-built' side. It can be done, so don't be afraid, just jump in and enjoy the swim. Just my tuppence-worth; hope this helps.
