1.
...apart from segways...
This is a Segway... The word you're wanting would be 'segue', I think..? Just sayin'.
 2. I'll be out of action for a while very shortly, so I thought I'd get this done whilst I can. Here's a Casady-inspired riff that I use for keeping my fingers from seizing up (s'not working that well this evening..! ). As video seems to be the latest fad, I've shot this with my webcam, one take, no edits (as you'll see..!) directly into VideoPad from my armchair, using our Cort fiver, MM p/up, tones centred. The audio track is raw Reaper, rendered then added to the video. Another one for the Noodle Pot; enjoy.

 4.
... please have a listen & add your comments below...
Quite a lot to listen to, there; I'll admit to not having played 'em all, all of the way through. Excellent playing, very tight for a 'live', one-take effort (I assume that you were all playing together, not recording individually..?). As such, a fine demo of what the band may deliver on stage. Not entirely convinced by the quality of the vocals. He gets away with much, but pitch is an issue a bit too often. It's overcome with sincerity, but it doesn't always work. The mix is fair enough for a one-shot demo; the 'real' BS tracks probably had far more post-production, to bring out individual elements of each song. As it is, your demo has a 'sameness' throughout. That could be considered a Good Thing, though. What's with the compression, though..? Right up to the limit for most tracks. Dynamic suffers as a result (for me...), and the ear is quickly tired by such incessant intensity. I'm aware that it's part of the genre, but still... Altogether a very presentable demo, for which you may (all...) be rightly proud. It stands up quite well to comparison with the originals, in the circumstances. Well done, y'all.
 5. Ordered, now just have to wait for the postman. Hours of listening fun in store..!
 6.
Admirable treasure indeed. Can anyone my age (67) forget first seeing the Hofner bass in Paul McCartney's hands on the Beatles' February 1964 appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show? (And more than a few of us said, "What's that?")
At that age (I, too, am 67...) I'd seen very few basses at all, so wasn't troubled in the slightest. Now if he'd been playing a live adult puma... Nice bass, of course; well worth restoring to its best. Keen to see more as the project progresses; thanks for sharing.
 7.
Isn't it about time we stopped resurrecting this thread and let it slip quietly into memory....?
Quite the opposite, this topic can serve to help others with similar problems. I'm even thinking that 'pinning' it could be envisaged. Anything and everything goes, as long as it keeps logs trouble-free, don't you think..? Another aspect is the grim warning that this carries regarding the impetuous posting of topics without due thought beforehand. Once one's inner self is offered up for general scrutiny, it's very difficult to claw back. Putting genies back into bottles is notoriously difficult. Future posters could benefit from mature reflection before hitting the keyboard.
 8.
Many thanks. Can you now do us a similar back to back comparison on drums using the same bench marks as with the OP's clip? Nah, only kidding. I do wonder about how noticeable it is for different parts of the audible range however.
Sorry, no can do. I systematically remove bench marks. A wipe with a damp cloth for the most part, but can go as far as using a plane to get out the real gouges. OCD..? Nah, just fussy about keeping my bench neat and tidy. T'was a nice idea, though.
 9.
You could melt them in acetone and stain some wooden furniture with the solution....
Would that make the wood 'sound'..?
 10.
Excellent...
Now look here, I don't create the reference of the sticks I use, I just buy 'em and hit drums..! I wuz axed wot sticks, I replied thus. Did I screw up somewhere..? As fer reference tones for pitch: the notion of Emperor's New Clothes comes to mind...
 11.
What sticks do you use ?
ProMark, Japanese Shira Kashi pw747n, White Oak 747, Nylon Tip ... although 5A will do, too (slightly less long, and a tad less heavy...). The important bit is the Japanese Oak, which is extremely hard-wearing, and provides an excellent cross-sticking 'ring'. No hickory; I'm not a hard hitter, by any means, but I've had far too many wear out to use them any more. Not fond at all of Vic Forth, either. Yes, a nylon tip, too, for clear cymbals, especially hi-hat definition. Simples, really. Brushes and Hotrods, too, of course, depending on repertoire. Non-retractable nylon, for brushes, Hot rods..? Not fussy, they're all much of a muchness, I find. Hope this helps.
 12.
D? Aren't I right in saying that drums are tuned just the same as all instruments?...
Yes, indeed, and that tuning is very important (I'd even say 'critical'...), but the methods are very different, as there are many differing results obtainable. Here's the gen; the Drum Tuning Bible, downloadable as a Pdf file... Drum Tuning Bible ... Doesn't apply to cymbals, of course; they have to be chosen carefully, too, to sound musically compatible with the kit and between themselves, but cannot be altered after manufacture (although 'pitch' can be altered, as an effect, by dipping in water whilst playing, for instance..!). All the 'secrets' are in the Bible; there's no better available, in my view. Essential knowledge for all drummers and drum techs.
 13. Well, I couldn't hear any difference. I didn't listen to the speaking stuff, just skipped straight to the playing, and shifted the start point around from one to the other. Which was 440, 432 or anything else in between made no difference to me. I'm a drummer, though, so what would I know about Hz..?
 14.
...any feedback welcome...
Very nice, laid-back, slightly West Coast vibe to the intro; the production is clean, with excellent audibility all round. Tasteful, discreet drums, well tuned (s'not always the case..!), indeed, excellent execution from all (maybe the sax player should be credited somewhere..?). A subtle build-up; t'will really 'rock out' when played live, as the coda could go on for yonks (a technical term...). It won't appeal to all (not much for head-bangers to swirl their locks to, or shoe-gazers, either...), but an original sound whilst resting firmly commercial; no bad thing. I enjoyed the listen and congratulate all involved; my thumb is well and truly 'up'. Thanks for sharing.
 15. Right now..? 'Blues for Allah' (Grateful Dead...) ... http://youtu.be/Ss1_Xu7YBrM One needs one's daily dose.
 16. Or even 'Blues for Allah' (Grateful Dead...)..? http://youtu.be/Ss1_Xu7YBrM
 17.
Nicely avoided. I thought you played bass as well. The kit is nice and I think the resonant head refers to the bass drum's "reflex port" but that's all I can relate to, sorry. I was pulling your leg when I mentioned a modified upright as being of your era. Never-the-less there must be an example of a bass from your YoB. No?
'Fraid not, I'm from the distant past (1950...), just before Leo's inspiration. Yes, indeed, I play bass (quite badly...); my 'go-to' bass is my Hofner Verithin, f'rom '65. I've others (our youngest's Cort fiver, a 'Douglas' 6-string fretless, a nice OLP baritone guitar tuned as a bass...), but excel on none of 'em, wot wiv bein' a drummer an' all, innit..? Yes, you're right about the reflex port; I'm 'old school', and leave the resonant head to resonate. I built a mic into my Camco bass drum, just so the sound engineers didn't have to wonder how to mic it up, although a mic just in front does a fine job. I think that, for many of 'em, it's just how they've seen it done on 'telly, so that's what they go for. Not on my watch, though..!
 18.
... PS I should have posted this "off topic" but hopefully I will be forgiven just this once!
Maybe, but it'll cost you a fiver.
 19.
So... a modified upright for you? Heeheehee
I think I'd prefer (and do more justice to..! ) a 1950 maple Gretsch kit, if I was pushed. It would need to be switched around to 'lefty', of course, and I'd change the resonant head for an uncut. Nice, eh..?
 20.
I think some on here were born before the electric bass was invented .
Luckily, some of us are not worried about YOB, either, so that's no big deal..!
 21. Late '70s, I was drummer in a French variety band. I took a few days off to pop over to Blighty, to see family and friends, accompanied by the sax player, Joel and the bassist, Gégé. All was well until the return trip from Portsmouth to St Malo. The weather turned to stormy, and the ferry was unable to reach port, and so circled Jersey for 36 hours of wild waves. All the cabins were opened up, and the restaurant was free, but very few made use of that..! Well before mobile phones, but I managed to contact the band leader to explain that it would be impossible for the three of us to be there for the week-end's gigs. End result: all three of us were fired..! Hey ho. Incidentally, it was the first and only time that I saw someone (Joel...) actually turn green in colour. A rough trip for all, but that poor lad really did suffer.
