If I see a Morris dance troupe coming towards me....
... So what is a fairly standard, 'standard' for Morris dancing?...
Choose from here..? 1x cab at 4ohm *vs* 2x cabs at 8ohm - worth it?
Dad3353 replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
how so? two cabs in series implies from head into one cab then another cable out of that into the other cab connecting in parallel would need a y split cable i.e from head signal split into both cabs at the same time
It's not the cabs that count, it's the electrical connection between the speakers. Most amps, and many cabs, have two outputs, wired in parallel. Connecting a 4 ohm cab to each of these would, indeed, give a 2 ohm load to the amp, whether using the amp connectors or the cab connectors (ie: daisy-chained...). However, with the use of a specially-cabled series box connected to the amp, the cabs (and thus their speakers...) can be made to be electrically in series, showing a 8 ohm load to the amp. It's not that common, but has no danger to the amp. The solution will work just fine, and the overall sound will be fuller, and so seem slightly louder. -
...It's a nightmare to mix and master I must admit. Mine sounds good on my headphones but not the best on speakers.
I've said it before, but it might be worth repeating... One can mix with even very modest gear (although there are limits, of course..!) if one uses known pieces from one's own repertoire as reference for the sound one is trying to achieve. A comparison between a 'pro' mix and the 'work in progress' can be made; any lack of fidelity will be common to the two, and so has little effect. I have to admit to having very dodgy ears (wot wiv bein' old an' all...), but use this method to check my efforts. Usually, I find that if I can hear the cymbals, they're too loud..! Just sayin'; hope this helps...
...unless you are intending to go out a buy a couple of huge orchestral libraries and run 50+ tracks of that with multiple instance of convolution reverb plug-ins, anything with an i5 processor, SSD drive, and at least 16GB of RAM should do.
+1, my system is less 'speced' even than this, and I've plenty of power to spare. More is nice, maybe, but a poor return on expenditure, in my opinion.

...but it's a thread aimed directly at "Thundercat fans"... Still, if we're to be excluded from contribution, I'll keep quiet in here, now. Sorry for having woken anyone.
...generations have their own interpretations of music.
Quite, but, whatever the generation, there are those that appreciate 'speed-freaks' and those who prefer a more posed approach. I listen to John Mclaughlin, for instance, but don't think that the frenetic style translates well to bass at all. Hats off for the technical ability, but, to me, completely off the map, musically. Yes, I'm old, but wouldn't have liked this in the '60s or '70s, either (and there were those that tried..!). I would like to have a more dynamically balanced set, as uber-speed becomes tiring quite quickly. Not my taste at all, I'm afraid.

Log in trouble ? Help ! -MODS YOU CAN DELETE DUE TO IDIOT ERROR :)
Well that's just silly. Surely you're going to need at least one each end?
You've not thought this through. If the one wheel was fixed to one end, like a wheelbarrow, it could work. It could also be fixed under the middle, which would balance better. On the other hand, if the wheel was fixed as on a vehicle's axle, the log could at least be turned (rolled...) in a circle..? Other options are surely possible... More wheels would, though, open up more possibilities, I'll agree. -
I play lefty (although I'm right-handed; it just worked out that way when I started...). I can't remember ever having to play anyone else's kit, but I've very often had my kit used by others. We'd simply switch over the floor tom and hi-hat, then switch out my double pedal for theirs if necessary, and that suffices for most (sometimes permute the rack toms, too, if requested...). The snare is usually replaced, and usually cymbals, too, unless I know the other drummer very well indeed..! It's true that, during a long career, I was more often head-lining than not, with an excellent Camco kit, and so had first choice of set-up. Despite all of that, most drummers I've played with are flexible enough to adapt to a 'foreign' set-up, as long as the snare stand is at the right height/angle for them. There are exceptions (head-bangers with a hit-hat perched almost 2m from the floor..!, Or those that use only china crashes for their whole set..!); maybe I've just been lucky, most of the time.
Every time I try to get a quote, all I get is the dimensions are too large. What am I doing wrong and how do you folks do it?
Use a smaller box (put the bass in diagonally..?)..? What dimensions are you giving, and to whom..?
Just a point, 'once the live music is over' is when the band will be thinking about going home, not morphing into a cheap non-disco......someone's not thought this through?
That's part of the 'wedding band' tariff, normally, as at least someone (and often the whole band...) have to stay until the party's over, to tear down the PA and leave. It's often a Good Idea to have a DJ take over that role, with their own, more modest sound system (and budget that in, of course...), just to liberate the band. It can be a long night...

New band quandary - advice sought, please...
Dad3353 replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
... What shall I do?...
Surely it's not being suggested that you (all...) record all 30 songs in one recording session..? That smacks of folly, to me. If it's simply a matter of going through two, three or five of the numbers for a 'sampler' CD, what's the harm..? Go along, record your best take and enjoy the experience; it'll be fine, I'd say. Don't over-think it, maybe..? -
...In my defence, how often does anyone think along the same lines as Dad !!...
Fine stuff, and a very pleasant tune. A suitably sunny tone; it will be useful to play it again next winter, as a reminder of this early spring warmth.
A touch of the Hendrix about this dad... if you played that an octave up on an overdriven strat, you'd have women with flowers in their hair throwing various bit of clothing at you...
Bin there, done that, got the tee-shirt (and more...). ... ... If only..! Seriously; have you seen my avatar..? Fat chance..!
