  1. Well, [i]I [/i]couldn't hear any difference. I didn't listen to the speaking stuff, just skipped straight to the playing, and shifted the start point around from one to the other. Which was 440, 432 or anything else in between made no difference to me. I'm a drummer, though, so what would [i]I [/i]know about Hz..?
  2. [quote name='Stephen Houghton' timestamp='1493915097' post='3291832']...any feedback welcome... [/quote] Very nice, laid-back, slightly West Coast vibe to the intro; the production is clean, with excellent audibility all round. Tasteful, discreet drums, well tuned (s'not always the case..!), indeed, excellent execution from all (maybe the sax player should be credited somewhere..?). A subtle build-up; t'will really 'rock out' when played live, as the coda could go on for yonks (a technical term...). It won't appeal to all (not much for head-bangers to swirl their locks to, or shoe-gazers, either...), but an original sound whilst resting firmly commercial; no bad thing. I enjoyed the listen and congratulate all involved; my thumb is well and truly 'up'. Thanks for sharing.
  3. Right now..? 'Blues for Allah' (Grateful Dead...) ... http://youtu.be/Ss1_Xu7YBrM One needs one's daily dose.
  4. Or even 'Blues for Allah' (Grateful Dead...)..? http://youtu.be/Ss1_Xu7YBrM
  5. [quote name='SpondonBassed' timestamp='1493902807' post='3291676'] Nicely avoided. I thought you played bass as well. The kit is nice and I think the resonant head refers to the bass drum's "reflex port" but that's all I can relate to, sorry. I was pulling your leg when I mentioned a modified upright as being of your era. Never-the-less there must be an example of a bass from your YoB. No? [/quote] 'Fraid not, I'm from the distant past (1950...), just before Leo's inspiration. Yes, indeed, I play bass (quite badly...); my 'go-to' bass is my Hofner Verithin, f'rom '65. I've others (our youngest's Cort fiver, a 'Douglas' 6-string fretless, a nice OLP baritone guitar tuned as a bass...), but excel on none of 'em, wot wiv bein' a drummer an' all, innit..? Yes, you're right about the reflex port; I'm 'old school', and leave the resonant head to resonate. I built a mic into my Camco bass drum, just so the sound engineers didn't have to wonder how to mic it up, although a mic just in front does a fine job. I think that, for many of 'em, it's just how they've seen it done on 'telly, so that's what they go for. Not on my watch, though..!
  6. [quote name='Al Krow' timestamp='1493897972' post='3291595']... PS I should have posted this "off topic" but hopefully I will be forgiven just this once! [/quote] Maybe, but it'll cost you a fiver.
  7. [quote name='SpondonBassed' timestamp='1493878096' post='3291415'] So... a modified upright for you? Heeheehee [/quote] I think I'd prefer (and do more justice to..! ) a 1950 maple Gretsch kit, if I was pushed. It would need to be switched around to 'lefty', of course, and I'd change the resonant head for an uncut. Nice, eh..?
  8. [quote name='ambient' timestamp='1493845485' post='3291295'] I think some on here were born before the electric bass was invented . [/quote] Luckily, some of us are not worried about YOB, either, so that's no big deal..!
  9. Late '70s, I was drummer in a French variety band. I took a few days off to pop over to Blighty, to see family and friends, accompanied by the sax player, Joel and the bassist, Gégé. All was well until the return trip from Portsmouth to St Malo. The weather turned to stormy, and the ferry was unable to reach port, and so circled Jersey for 36 hours of wild waves. All the cabins were opened up, and the restaurant was free, but very few made use of that..! Well before mobile phones, but I managed to contact the band leader to explain that it would be impossible for the three of us to be there for the week-end's gigs. End result: all three of us were fired..! Hey ho. Incidentally, it was the first and only time that I saw someone (Joel...) actually turn green in colour. A rough trip for all, but that poor lad really did suffer.

  11. [quote name='Wayne Firefly' timestamp='1493730034' post='3290195'] Cant upload pics, wont let me, uploads fail. [/quote] Maybe your 'Attachments' quota is all used up..? Try this... Go to your 'My Profile' (your pseudo, top right...). Select 'Edit my Profile' (black button a bit below...). Select 'Manage Attachments' (in the list on the left...). They are listed in date order. Navigate to oldest, select those to be deleted (tick boxes on the right...). Select 'Delete Selected' (grey button at bottom right of list...). Repeat, page by page, until all unwanted attachments are deleted. Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Imgur or Flickr is a good idea, of course; even more so if using higher resolution photos. Your quota limit would never be reached using this method, and the photos are better presented. Just sayin'; that's what I do, and never need to worry about quotas. Hope this helps; meanwhile... Have a nice day Douglas
  12. No free time this month (medical matters that'll occupy most of May...), so here's mine, whilst I still can... [url="https://soundcloud.com/dad3353/evolution-all-things-must-pass"]Evolution (All Things Must Pass...) ...[/url] Enjoy.

  15. [quote name='jonnyenglish358' timestamp='1493468345' post='3288573']...but try not to hurt my feelings... [/quote] Now there's a challenge..! I'll try; I may not succeed. First, then, the good stuff... ... Now then, as for the piece, and admitting freely that I'm certainly not the target audience, I was rather underwhelmed by the 'U2' clone production, the rather predictable format and the several gimmick 'hooks' in there. Competent enough on all instruments, although the eternally chiming guitar grates quite quickly, but the 'big beat' on the bass drum leaves me cold; my feet rarely tap to that. The bass is solid enough, except in the (obligatory...) instrumental bridge, when it loses the sparse quality of providing impulsion to 'flub around' (a technical term...) unnecessarily. Well done on producing a single, though; that, in itself is an achievement not to be sneered at, and I appreciate the work that went into this. I shan't be buying (No..? What a surprise..!), but sincerely wish you (all...) all the best in this difficult and ungrateful field you've chosen. No hard feeling, I trust; I try to be honest, that's all. Good luck in your ventures, and thanks for sharing.
  16. [quote name='Biglump' timestamp='1493462326' post='3288507']...how do I discuss it on here if someone gifts me a Rickenbackker..... [/quote] There's a suitable topic for nearly everything here on BC ... [url="http://basschat.co.uk/topic/278383-bad-jokes/"]Bad Jokes ...[/url]
  17. [quote]Fender Jazz Knobs - position preference[/quote] I try to avoid Fender jazz knobs at all times; they can be such bores.
  18. [quote name='laranjo' timestamp='1493163106' post='3286218'] Cant find my sale post , did i anything wrong?... [/quote] Yes, I'm afraid so. A common error from the Continent in using a decimal '.' when typing in the price; you must not use punctuation; just enter as a whole number. Your post has been deleted; post it again with the price, in £, but without the 'thousands' separator, please. Hope this helps.
  19. [quote name='AdamWoodBass' timestamp='1493115723' post='3285675']...bus out the reverb and isolate... [/quote] Although it's easy (and immediate...) to simply add an fx directly to a track, I often use a second track for the fx and send the instrument to it. Especially useful when wanting a common treatment for several tracks, of course, but has the added advantage of enabling isolation of the effect for solo listening, without the 'dry' track. Probably not how one would go about setting up a 'one-off' 'quick and dirty' trial impro, but can be useful. I have some set-ups of the sort saved as templates, so I find it no more fiddly to do than just selecting 'New Project'. Just sayin'.
  20. [quote name='AdamWoodBass' timestamp='1493114861' post='3285660']... single track in Reaper with a stock reverb setting... [/quote] Do you still hear this interference when listening to the 'dry' track, with no treatment at all..?
