Publishing, and song copyright, good places to go ??
Dad3353 replied to funkgod's topic in General Discussion
[quote name='funkgod' timestamp='1478032685' post='3166260']... what about the next stage royalties and the collection of, is 20% good for this ? [/quote] What does the MU have to say on the subject..? -
A Good Post, and a solemn (well, not as solemn as all that...) reminder that there was Life before d&b monitors, or IEM's, that one does not systematically need ear protection if the drummer's good, and that 1kw for a bass amp is not the only way to be heard. No pedal boards, either, no DI, no ... well, no anything, really. Just good old-school talent and honed quality. A Good Post; thanks for sharing.

[quote name='funkgod' timestamp='1478031023' post='3166233']... Thanks for any help here... [/quote] This many be a reasonable starting point, maybe..? [url="http://www.musiciansunion.org.uk/Home/Advice/Your-Career/Legal/Copyright-and-Performers-Rights-FAQs"]Musician's Union: Copyright and other FAQ's ...[/url] I don't think you'd have to pay a percentage to any organisation for dealing with this (one doesn't in France, at least; the UK may be [s]behind the times[/s] different in this...). -

[quote name='thebrig' timestamp='1477947020' post='3165500'] How do you quote just sections... [/quote] One quotes the entire post, and edits (removes...) the bits of quote that are unwanted. And, yes, I agree with you.

In the late '60s, the only real options for cash-strapped apprentices was home-built trannie amps (100w..! 'Gulp'...) or the Linear Concord, a 30w valve amp. Home-made cabs, with 4 x 30w Fane speakers. Happy daze... I started drumming, but had the use of a Fender Bassman 100, and a Hiwatt 200w PA, so lacked for nothing for bass or guitar. I took up bass (and guitar...) again later on, using an excellent Fender Bassman 50w into a 2 x 15 cab. When our youngest took over the bass, we added a Hartke 3500 and an Ampeg 4 x 10 cab, and have added, since, a Hiwatt PA 200w PA head and an HH 2 x 15 horn-loaded cab. Heavy..? Yes, indeed. Old school..? Yes, indeed. Satisfactory..? Yes, indeed; we're not looking to change anything, as it does exactly what we want.

We use the same configuration, a pair of HK Audio RS152x tops on tripod stands, and a pair of no-name monitor boxes. Our amp is a cheap 2x300w power amp, and we play in mono, so one side to the tops, the other side as monitor. Simple, inexpensive, good quality PA that has done a sterling job for the last decade or so. 3 vocal mic's and a touch of bass drum; on occasion a drum overhead in small outdoor gigs. Old school, yes, but it still works for most of the situations we play in.

I've given up with Waves products, as I found 'em to be too pernickety (a technical term...) concerning recognition of their own licences, and needing too-frequent web access. I don't mind buying stuff, but I'd like just a little trust from the sellers that I'm not a pirate. I don't have these intrusions with other software folks. A shame, as they have some decent enough stuff, but my patience (what little I have left...) got worn too thin to put up with the nonsense.

[quote name='maxmckee' timestamp='1477654402' post='3163589'] Cheers, I have 5 photos of a bass I've sold but the post is locked so I can't remove it? [/quote] Try this, to delete attachments no longer required, and liberate quota space..? Go to your 'My Profile' (your pseudo, top right...). Select 'Edit my Profile' (black button a bit below...). Select 'Manage Attachments' (in the list on the left...). They are listed in date order. Navigate to oldest, select those to be deleted (tick boxes on the right...). Select 'Delete Selected' (grey button at bottom right of list...). Repeat, page by page, until all unwanted attachments are deleted. Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Imgur is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Other image hosting sites are similar. Hope this helps...

Buying a Bass from Amazon and Selling on eBay for Massive Profits!

But, again, if one is happy enough to pay the price asked, who's being 'ripped off'..? It's possible to buy a (relatively...) cheap car in India, if you can get there and drive it back. Not many people do; are all the others being 'ripped off' by UK prices because they 'can't be @rsed'..? -
Those that are working are too busy to mess about on web forums, and those who [i]aren't [/i]working can't afford t'web.

In my early days playing in French variety bands, there were many 'dep' occasions where I'd be enrolled in a formation with only approximate notions as to the real score to be playing. In one particular 'band', the band leader was also the wholesale supplier of the beers to the events, and so had leverage to be the chosen band for the event. Couesnon (the bloke's name...) would play sax or trumpet, his son on accordion or keys. A couple of regulars on guitar and bass, with whoever was available on drums. All very well, as they mostly knew the repertoire, but very disconcerting to find that they had only sketchy knowledge of how the tunes were supposed to go, and, in all evidence, had never, themselves, tried to dance to 'em. Missed beats, extended sections, doubled (or almost doubled...) key melody lines; it was all over the shop, even from verse to verse. As they had been playing together for quite some years, all (or most...) of these oddities had melded into, for them, a quite smooth performance, as they tended to make the same hops, skips and jumps mostly together, but for the first few sessions, it was difficult (read 'impossible'...) to anticipate quite what they would do. My technique at the time was rather unversed in the specific notions of 'musette' (the style of music from pre- and post-war crooner-jazz accordion stuff popular in France, and with a strong following, even today...). I adopted a bastardised soft disco beat, with a hi-hat lift for lightness, and a soft-ish 'poom tah-tah poom tick' for most of the 4/4 stuff. I would play on, regardless of their antics, with the firm intention of keeping the dancers (and there were many...) on the floor from having to break stride (or break a leg..!) when the song slipped. The 'pulse' came from the drums; anyone singing along to these very well-known melodies would have to adjust, themselves, to the gymnastics on stage, but the beat would go on, and the couples gyrate smoothly all evening. I never had complaints; I'm pretty sure they didn't even notice, any of 'em, and the floor was always appreciative and generous in their applause at the end of each segued section. I've not changed my opinion since. The rhythm is king; if the drummer drops it, the band plays on, and [i]vice versa[/i]. It would never do to have other members trying to adjust; that can only make a busted beat break down even further.

[quote name='thebrig' timestamp='1477565206' post='3162978']... Does she deserve to be ripped off just because she only has a basic knowledge of using a computer, and didn't spend hours on Google first? [/quote] On the other hand, if someone is willing to pay any particular price for something, that's a sign that it's worth it to them. The fact that it could be obtained cheaper elsewhere does not alter that satisfaction with the deal engaged in, does it..? I'd agree that I don't think highly of those practising these methods, but a happy customer is a happy customer, too. -
Ha..! Don't tell me you left the box ticked for receiving 'news'..? Glutton for punishment, eh..?

4-piece band + backing tracks for guitarist. Hmmmm...
Dad3353 replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
[quote name='ambient' timestamp='1477492569' post='3162576'] This brings to mind the recent playing by ear thread. A fair few guys on here seem to have to 'learn' a song and practice it before playing it. [/quote] Depending on the song, of course, I'd say that this is pretty well standard for many musicians. One doesn't play along with Mendelssohn 'by ear' often. Some 'jammable' numbers can be improvised to, but many need at least a 'once through' to be credible. You may be exceptionally gifted, of course, but it's not given to many. -

[quote name='Lee-Man' timestamp='1477476876' post='3162434'] Might be useful for some ... [/quote] I hope so, as it's a bit of a pig to obtain, then install. I've spent an hour so far, and still can't access it. A warning, then..? Once the Cakewalk Downloader is installed, don't run it to get this freebie without first checking the Paths it will use (without further asking...). They may be OK for you, but may very well not..! Get the Paths right, first. I've now corrected mine, and the Vst has been installed, but Reaper can't, as yet, see it. I'll keep trying, and will crack this nut eventually, but, as sang Ziggy Stardust... "It ain't eeeezy..."

[quote name='bassinvader36' timestamp='1477432446' post='3162272']... is there possibly a way to enter a late entry? [/quote] You have another... 27 seconds. Get uploading, quick, like, double time..! -
All I can suggest, then, is that there is a source of interference now present which was not there beforehand. Can you move the system to another location, just for a trial somewhere else (another room, or another house, even..?). Have there been any major changes made recently, such as new freezer or central heating switched on..? We're now in the realms of guesswork, really; it's strange that this should only recently become apparent.

The next suspect would be the interface flaking out. What do you hear if you record a session with no guitar plugged in at all..? Should be silence, or near enough. Is it..?
