Change the band name to 'Warwick'..?
-
The solution is blindingly obvious, of course. If employed, either ask for (and obtain...) a pay rise, or bid for (and obtain...) a higher-paid job. Those self-employed have only to raise their tarifs by an equivalent amount. Those with fixed income just stop spending (and therefore gain with no effort at all...). What's not to like..? The majority of the British populace are apparently happy enough to accept this modest price for having taken back control again, and have even dodged the 'Blond Bombshell for PM' bullet..! It's all good, surely..?

Dragon's Den - Analogue Optical Guitar Cable
Dad3353 replied to spectoremg's topic in General Discussion
The early Morley pedals used modulated light (operated by foot pedal...) for volume, 'wah' and 'fuzz' control. There have been several tremolos using this principle in amps, too. The only real difference here is the use of a plastic 'light pipe' as a support; light-controlled sound and sound-controlled light are not new at all. -
.. and maybe consider getting your little girl's hearing checked..?

A stereo chorus will, alone, require two channels. If you then wish to use an A/B switch to keep that sound going, and play 'lead', another channel still will be required. The A/B switch will have to be stereo, too. All is possible, but it may be useful to draw up a synopsis of your proposed signal chain so that the exact components can be recommended. It would be a shame to have a surprise after acquisition of unsuitable equipment, and the permutations are many. Just sayin'.
...upon hitting the 'on' switch, the red 'on' LED lights up for a second then fades, and nothing. Oddly when hitting the switch back to the 'off' position, the LED lights up again and stays lit for a few seconds longer before fading...
This looks like like a power switch fail. Try (or get someone competent to try...) shunting the switch to see if the amp lights up correctly. If it does, change the switch; if not, there's another problem somewhere else. Worth a try..?
So, erm, anything on the Bass cleff is going to be on the top 5 frets? and the low e on the bass is written as -O-? as in the crude drawing below? ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- -O-
Basically, that's correct, with the proviso that anything from the low 'A' upwards on that stave can be played, either using the 'A' string, or the 5th fret of the low 'E' string. Once there's a low 'A', anything above can be played on other strings, depending on many factors, such as proximity to the preceding/following notes, tonal issues, personal preference and more. Apart from the four very lowest notes, and the highest notes, there is no fixed fret for any note, unlike a keyboard, where there is no such ambiguity. There's no harm in starting off thinking as you suggest about only the lower frets, but it's good practice to read the notes on different strings as well. Confusing..? Not after the first forty years or so. Hope this helps; subject to completion, correction and/or contradiction from others.

We got to see this this evening, and, although there were one or two choices of orchestration that were little too 'contemporary' for our senior ears, altogether we agreed that it was a very good show indeed, and a worthy tribute to the originality and diversity of the fellow. I'm not a collector of all his works, and didn't recognise all of the material, but found the quality of the concept to be sound. Not all the singers were of operatic stature, but (diverging from SHMBO's view...) I found them all to be fitting in context. No, not technically perfect, nor as polished as maybe even the performers would have liked, but a refreshing change from stuffy old 'proms' evenings, and well worth the watch. I may not buy the DVD, if there is one to come, but, then again, I don't buy DVD's, anyway. I can see why some are grumbling about it, though. That's what 'old' people do, innnit..?
Did you know or did you get the info from the name in the jpg address?...
'Right-click' on the original picture, then 'Search similar image by Google'. Absolutely no merit, I'm afraid. :- | -
Not a fan, I'm afraid, either from a purely musical point of view, nor from vantage point of historical retro-vision. I've no special sentimental sympathy for those who participated in these massacres, nor any other military subjects. Musically, I found it to drag through a quagmire of reverberation swamping a straining vocal over a sad arpeggio. Fitting, maybe, for the subject, but not something I wish to put between my ears. Sorry, but you did ask. No malice intended.
Don't know, can't actually find a fuse on the head
Ah... So, Moriarty, you've not read the Manual again, eh..? Notwithstanding the above, which is correct, you'd be better off with a 3 A fuse in my opinion.
good advice, thank you! I thought as much with regard to just turning it down, last time I did that with a big watt amp the electrics in the house blew!
Bad luck, I'd say..! Our 'cottage' has a total capacity of 3 kw for everything (it was a 'temporary' meter installed 15 years ago, never up-rated...). All of our amps are valve (Mesa Simul-class 2:90, Marshall 100w, Fender Bassman and the Hiwatt...); we use all of that stuff at decent, studio volume generally. If we want to get rid of the cobwebs, we push the cabs outside and frighten the cows, but not very often. I've never had an amp failure except an HA3500 (trannie kapput just out of guarantee...), so I'd say that there's no great problem with playing turned down. Others may have other experiences, but I spent a good few years as a tech in a music shop, and never came across such issues.
... I was interested in buying one with power scaling, so i could scale it down from 100w to a lower amount for when i practice at home. Have any of you used power scaling amps before?
We use a Hiwatt DR205 (200w PA head...) for bass, at home for practice and rehearsal, and for gigs, of course. The only difference, really, is that it's turned down at home, and turned up just a little more for gigs. There's no difference between playing softly and rocking out except that, with the latter, the sound of falling concrete is drowned out. If you're looking for a more 'dirty' sound, it'll be best coming from pedals, in any case, as the thunder tones of most valve amps, and Hiwatts more than others, comes from the whole 'shaking the earth' aspect, which a power soak cannot give. The best, 'studio level' simulation was, 'back then', obtained by putting the cab face down on the carpeted floor and turning up the wick on the amp. Best for guitar, though, as the KT88 valves are notoriously difficult to 'bend'. That's why we have it, though clean bass at any and all sonic volumes. Just my tuppence-worth.
For most rock bands at the local level sitting is not allowed. I can't even imagine asking my band if I could play sitting down. I'm 63 with a bad hip with sciatica going down to my toes. If I'm out here standing doing 4 hour bar gigs , you young guys should be able to handle standing. Blue

It's certainly a thought but I am not aware of too many bassists in rock bands that play sitting down (happy to be corrected tho) and to be honest I would feel a bit of a twat if I did!!

Not sure if serious...? Unless it's a jazz, acoustic or mellow gig; or some sort of medical reason stops it then it just looks wrong to have people sitting on stage. I felt guilty sitting there when I broke my leg, when it was first plastered I had to keep my foot up or it was painful and I felt bad for the audience. I like to dance and interact and show that I'm having fun as well. That probably makes me sound a snob, but it's not entertaining to watch unless people are moving and showing a bit of emotion. With regards to the OP, Scott Divine did a lesson about strap length which is worth a watch. Otherwise, it's just a case of practice and getting a feel for it.
Seriously..? Halfway house, really; I don't see the notion of having this special, optimised posture standing if one is, at the same time, moving about, interacting with the audience and generally 'rocking out'. Nothing wrong with any of that, of course, but I can't see the bass staying riveted in its 'home' place in doing that, unless it really is riveted in place. If one is moving about, the bass is swinging around at least a bit, isn't it..? Or does everyone loon about with a rigid instrument..? My point would be: either it's necessary to have a good, mastered posture (in which cas I'd say sit, and hang 'em all...) or it's not that important in rock, so rehearse and play as seems comfy or appropriate for the genre and leave the perfect stance out of it. I sit, as a drummer, but if I wanted (or felt like...) playing standing (or even lying down...), I'd have no qualms with it. One plays as one plays, unless this stereotyping is really what it's all about, in which case what's the deal with the technical perfection..? Serious, me..? Pshaw.!

Can you not sit down at the gig..? A folding chair or drum throne..? If not, why not..? Just sayin'.
