1. We have to presume that these are active monitors..? If that's the case, the second one has not suffered at all. Only one to get fixed, then..?
2. You're good for a visit to a repair centre for the monitors to get an estimate, I'd say. Put it down to experience and don't do that again once it's repaired.
3. Long-term comfort and hard-wearing connectors and cable come high on my list of features; I'm very happy with my Superlux HD669's. I've had 'em for a few years now; I was encouraged to give them a listen as I use a set of Superlux drum mics, with which I am also fully satisfied. I'm sure there are 'better' headsets, but, having less-than-perfect hearing, and a modest budget, I'll not be tempted by subjective claims, nor technical specs. One gets used to one's gear, whatever it is, anyway, so, as long as reasonable compensation is in play, for me, anything Very Good is good enough. I'm not much of a gear snob, either, so that helps. Yes, I endorse Superlux stuff.
4. I'm not sure that I should be excluded from the category, now you come to mention it.
5. http://youtu.be/D41AtOL0pnw Simply remove the 's' from the leading 'https'. (...and 'Well played, that man', too...)
6. It's true; my vst Ricky and my vst Jazz have very different 'snap' and 'punch'. I often wish that my vst double bass had a virtual bolt-on neck; I'm sure it would have made a world of difference. I'm not at all sure that any such difference can be heard in the audience, or by those listening to the records at home. Still, if it's important... (Strange folk, bassists, or, at least, some of 'em... )
7. It's Windows functionality. When one has several applications open at the same time, the keyboard combination of 'Alt - Tab' (hold down 'Alt' and then press 'Tab'...) will cycle through each application in turn, bringing them each to the fore. It's not often that I use it, as, being old, I don't tend to open loads of Windows at a time. It's handy, though, in some circumstances.
8. Dad and Bilbo are a bit suspect, too.
9. No, no, no..! It's just a missing comma; the phrase should have been: " that could be someone who loves jumping around and sticking their tongue out, to a shy but talented person standing very still doing their thing." It's all about context; have you no imagination..? (Isn't it outrageous that folks will pick up on just about any tiny flaw in grammar or punctuation; apostrophes, even. Very sad... ) ... ..
10. 'Tis my sole goal in life, to be just about as appreciated as your good self. I am fulfilled. Rock on..! (One day we'll show 'em, won't we..? What a day that'll be..! 50% equal votes shared between our sole master works. (Sounds of hands rubbed together in glee, and short, snorting chuckles...)...)
11. Hey..! Sarcasm..!
12. [Robert Robinson] Ah, but did you specify which Christmas, eh..? Now there's a thought..! (Taps side of nose, knowingly...) [/Robert Robinson]
13. And the joint winners are... Lord Sausage and The Boy..! [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167486] Here, then, are your Winner's Certificates (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ... ... which look like this (but bigger, of course..!)...
14. Maybe left-field, but I'd recommend practising with your eyes closed. Maybe tough at first, but it soon becomes natural, if one sticks at it. Just my tuppence-worth.
15. Better get your glasses filled, then; voting closes at midnight, tonight. That's MIDNIGHT, TONIGHT..! for the more distracted amongst us.
16.
...bass amps and speakers these days have far more in common with PA amplification in that they are very much more full-bandwidth amplification....
So much the better..! Is there not an increasing trend for guitarists to use a pre-amp/DI and go through FOH, with no back-line amp at all..? Sounds like an approach to that approach, to me..! A bit of modelling and, bingo..! As you've already mentioned, though, it can't do any harm at all to plug in and listen to the result. Dry, perhaps not so authentic, but with a bit of treatment, it may be quite satisfactory for home use.
17.
not trying to pick a fight btw, if you've had good results like this good for you, but this is a genuine question (not sarcasm) isn't delay and reverb more or less the same thing?
Well, technically, reverb is, effectively, a combination of a multitude of 'delays' all superimposed, such as the effect of a cathedral, or large cavern. A single 'delay' is often simply a single repetition, as an echo from a mountain cliff. In practise, they are different effects, which can be used together or individually to great effect (groan...). Do I have any luck with this..? I have, amongst others...) a Fender Bassman 50w, an 'old-school' valve amp. I play guitar through this, into a Fender Bassman 2 x 15 cab (see pic...). To obtain a more fulfilling sound, I play through a Boss Fender Deluxe pedal (in the pedal-board on the right in the photo...), with which I can add delay, reverb and/or overdrive. It sounds fine to me (bear in mind that 1 - I'm 'old-school', and 2 - getting progressively more and more hard of hearing. I've used this same rig for the last 40 years or so, though, so I'm beginning to know how to set it up for my 'style'. If we're talking home practise, that may be a bit too voluminous for some (not for me; I have all the space I need...), but the notion of playing at home into a (quality...) bass amp, with a reasonable pedal or multi-effect, seems fine to me. What's the alternative, if one is really looking for 'that' guitar sound..? A Fender Twin..? At home..? An inexpensive combo would be fine, but the Aguilar rig will do a good job, too, I'd say.
18. It'll sound fine, but won't give of its best without a pedal or two. A bit of delay, a decent reverb, maybe a spot of overdrive if that's what you like. Electric guitars have their sound greatly through the use of pedals, especially in home practise territory. Just my tuppence-worth.
19. No ridicule here, Robbie, only respect. A very excellent piece, bringing out the qualities of the guitar and putting them to fine use. A more than pleasant change from some of the more frantic modern stuff. More, please..? Thanks in advance; thanks for sharing. Again, respect.
20.
My son has just taken up drums. The difference between cymbals is marked and you get what you pay for. He has his eye on £800 worth of hand made Turkish hi-hat, crash and ride cymbals. They do sound awesome...
It's getting 'em to match that makes the difference. If he's got a set (whatever their make or provenance...), then he's doing very well. Getting 'em to work in differing genres is yet another challenge, and, you're right, none of it comes cheap. Good luck to him.
21. So which way is a harp strung..?
