... Anything more than that is filler and no one will take any notice anyway...
Apparently you've not experienced dance evenings, à la française, where all are on the floor from 9 till 2. Woe betide the band that leaves a 'blanc' in the proceedings. Taken over more by the disco-type scene, 5 hours non-stop is the norme in some circles, and poses no problem at all for serious musicians.
...how much protection does one need if you look after your gear?
An accident is just that; an unforeseen circumstance. If one never has one, no need for any insurances at all, I suppose. It's when an accident occurs that these things come into play. One takes one's chances... Just sayin'.

Have we all become wimps or is it a sign of an ageing population
... But other than that, there is no good reason to not take advantage of the tech advances.
Well, there is the cost factor, for some. Just sayin'. -

NBD - Warning "first bass" content... from 1964 (not great)
Dad3353 replied to Grangur's topic in General Discussion
That's my first bass, too (but in white...). Bought from a ropey pawn-type shop in Addlestone High Street, supposedly new (and it might have been...) for £20, it got traded in for a mixed Edgeware/Trixon set of drums after a few months; that's when I took a different route. Between the drums and the bass, I think I got the better deal. T'would be interesting to lay hands on another, for old time's sake, but I know that I won't be hankering after one any time soon. Mine really wasn't all that good to play. -
I posted this at 21:19 according to my computer... EDIT: A little bit out, but close enough to be able to say that its something at your end causing it.
My PC tells me it was posted at 10:15 PM, but that's because my PC is on European (Paris...) time, one hour ahead of the UK. That's normal for me; I'm in France.

Sold Paiste Hi Hat Cymbals
Dad3353 replied to gary mac's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
I'll wait until this time next month, and if no-one else is interested in this fine pair by then, I'll have' em sent to France to add to my modest Paiste collection. You have been fairly warned; those who snooze will loose out (I think there's maybe a punchier way of putting that, but I can't think of it right now...). The clock starts ticking... ... ... ... Now..! -
... the middle bit with the electronica/effects pedals...
It looked, and sounded, to me as if he'd accidentally trodden on the wrong button and spent the rest of the number desperately trying to get it back to something credible, at least, in which (again, to me...) he failed. I'm all for innovation, but any random noise in a storm leaves me a bit cold, I'm afraid. Our eldest uses 'un-guitar' sounds a lot, but there's a certain coherence needed to pull it off, I reckon. Still, if it worked for some...
Well the 410 is 400w handeling and the 210 is 200w handeling.. Does this make a difference??
The amp develops 300w into 4 ohms, of which (at full tilt...) 150w will go to each cab. Both should be fine, in theory; you'll hear if there's a problem, probably. At that rate, your ears will be singing, however.
... Having tried most of the options I really can't agree that washers are less fiddly either. I find them a real pain to get them on and off.
You do know that you have to remove them from the stoppers first, don't you..?

Survey to see what age range has opted to use lightweight (or NOT) gear.
Dad3353 replied to largo's topic in Amps and Cabs
To be truthful, I put 'No', but if I could afford 'em, I'd probably add 'em to my collection, so as to have the option. -

Constant annoying hum/noise from (new) active ACG bass
Dad3353 replied to Aero71's topic in Repairs and Technical
Can you detect a heart-beat under the floorboards..? Did the previous tenant of the property suddenly become widowed..? There's something in the vicinity of the duff corner, either so visible you're not seeing it, or the other side of the wall or floor sending out spurious RF. If, by moving to the other corner, it's settled, then you're good to go, although it would be best, if possible, to go the whole hog and root out the cause. It may be source of future problems (I'm thinking here of a faulty earth or live connection, sparking gently, thus creating RF, and a possible fire hazard. Pure speculation, but a possibility...). Is it worse with the left or right foot forward, or the opposite..? -
A few noodles using Philharmonik. The first three with the 'normal' mode; one can hear the awful slurring due to lousy fingering on my part. The instrument must be tuned spot on, I find. The last four are using the 'chromatic' mode, where pitch bending doesn't occur (harp, string section...)... I've no idea if this will help anyone, but the gadget does what I want to use it for.I'm keeping it (but keeping my keyboard, too..!). Sonuus 4 ...

Constant annoying hum/noise from (new) active ACG bass
Dad3353 replied to Aero71's topic in Repairs and Technical
With a long lead plugged into the amp, hold the bass by the headstock and walk around the room, from corner to corner. Does the interference increase anywhere..? Look more closely around there if that's the case..? -
Our lad always plays everything finger-style. I imagine that it's a lot more difficult played with a pick (but, then again, I'm a drummer... )
How about a sunburst one..? Y'know, like Jack used to play.
That was a (highly modified...) Guild, I think...
...in my man-cave (big attic) with new wiring and new earth ground power sockets...
What other electric - electronic stuff is up there, or on the same level..? TV aerial amplifier..? Wi-Fi router..? Satellite dish..? Is there a neighbouring attic (if it's a semi-detached or terrace house...) with stuff in it (radio ham..? private disco..?). No street lights just outside, or mobile telephone masts..? Try unplugging everything possible; the culprit is there somewhere. -
Play it through slowly at first, and build up speed very gradually. Our youngest played this from an early age, and that's how he always practises. Never failed yet, but a bit boring for some U2 songs. Don't go for speed. Go for regularity and precision; the speed will come all the quicker. Also, if you 'fluff' any part, carry on as if nothing's happened. Start again (once finished...), but a bit slower. Never stop on an error; continue regardless, but re-do it, more slowly.
... as you have no transport ...
What kind of transport do you lack..? Without seeming facetious, would a bike not be an option for really local stuff, with a light combo on the carrier and a bass as a backpack..? I think I've seen on this forum mention of folks gigging by bus or train. I understand, of course, that an Ampeg fridge would require a car or van, but are there really no transport options open at all, with appropriate gear..?
