An analogy... It's a bit like those who wouldn't buy a new car, as they'd take an important financial loss as soon as it leaves the forecourt. However, to have a second-hand car market, someone has had to buy new..! Different folks have differing visions of what's important to them, that's all. Nothing wrong with start-up groups, nor well-established groups. I understand less this constant harping on, though. It must be something in the water...
Postman Pat
Not quite; mine was in this livery... For the anecdote, I had acquired the thing for only a week or so when I was stopped by the local constabulary, and fined for driving with 'military insignia'..! I tried explaining that I had only just bought the thing (at auction...) from them, I had to 'tag' the Red Crosses away, although I left the roof one..! Luckily, the fine was 'amnestied' when Mitterrand became president in '83, so I never had to pay it.
This is 1400w at 8ohm, not 4ohm? Interested in weight and dimensions too.
Cabs are not like amps; their impedance is fixed (yes, I know; there are very rare exceptions...), as is their power handling. It's either 4 Ohm or it's 8 Ohm, independantly of the 1400w. Just sayin'.. -

Whin I moved to France, I 'upgraded' to this (an ex-Gendarmerie ambulance...) ... ... and now, we're fully modernised with our Trafic... It's still rock'n'roll, none of this namby-pamby featherweight stuff..! (Well, we might if we were rich, I suppose..! )
... I'm working on my noodle...
No, no, noodles aren't to be 'worked on', they should just present themselves, 'warts'n'all'. Practise, certainly; woodshed if you must, but leave a space for just capturing the moment. Plug in, press 'Record' and play..! Besides, I need to have some chance, and if you're going to pull out studied masterpieces, my unpolished offerings will never get a chance to glitter..!
Packed and ready for tonight's gig. Checklist: Total weight = 16kg max
Ha..! Back in the '70s, my front room at Shepperton was the practise room, about 12 square yards. This was my practise rig... Two of these stacks, side by side ... ... powered by my Hiwatt DR205 PA head (200w, 4 x KT88 valve amp...) Over a quarter of a ton..! Yes, we did haul it out for gigs, too..!

Sorry, just thought I'd get that one out of the way... I'm not expert enough to help much, but I would say that the Marshall head will blow almost any speakers, if cranked and abused. A pair of solid 4 x 12 cabs will hold up for a while, but 'back then', even they would often 'blow'. How about a noise limiter in the room, which cuts the juice..? If your blokes turn up too loud... black-out. Not a solution..?
Interesting you should mention the Tango. Myself and Mrs A have been taking weekly instruction in such terpsichoral matters and now find ourselves tearing up the floor with our “Improvers” Tango. The Tango should be danced with all heel leads (never on your toes), soft (bent) knees with staccato movements and a miserable face. Me and the Tango couldn’t be more suited!!
Darn it..! I have it all but the miserable face..! Bugger..!

There was a reunion gig a couple of years back (2013, if memory serves...). Here's a view of the early line-up (note the bas stack...) ... ... and here, on stage at Angers ... Doesn't time fly by, though, eh..? It seems like only yesterday when we were young, carefree, full of 'get up and go'..!
Never mind the beards, those are some spectacular trousers. Shame it's a black and white photo!
It didn't seem strange at the time ... (... and still doesn't..! ) Go easy, though, folks, these are my pals, although I've not seen 'em for several decades, now. We're dealing with archaeology, here. My favourite style, for instance, is Norse; just wait until it comes back into fashion. I'll be right up there at the pinnacle of 'in-ness'..!

Grasping the theory - simple methods & resources?
Dad3353 replied to highwayman's topic in Theory and Technique
I looked up ' Music Theory for the Bass Player'; although no longer a beginner, it looks to be very progressive, very complete, very readable. Duly noted for ordering. I have quite a few books of the sort in my modest library; this one will get my attention more than some others. Jolly good stuff. -
Just for the anecdote... I had recently joined the variety band (mid-'70s...); the 'tour bus' was an extended Peugeot J7 (not this one, but similar; this one was a sister act, 'The Shouters', very big 'back then'...)... Lionel, the driver/road, also had the glorious task of pulling birds and getting in beer for the band, and hold down the console FOH. That week-end, we were a fair few hundred kilometres from base, all the gear was loaded after the show, as was Lionel. Well loaded. I had been on orange juice all evening, so got given the task of driving home, with the band sleeping in the bunks behind. Now, a J7 is a thirsty beast at the best of times, and was loaded to the hilt (Leslie cabs for instance, anyone..?). I took me a couple of hundred kilometres to discover, by accidental reflex, that this one had, in fact, four gears..! I'd thought it to be the more usual three-gear version. Goodness knows how much fuel I'd used..! That same night, having lost my way, I had to reverse a bit to turn around. I never did get to explain to the chef d'orchestre where that small (-ish...) dent in the back came from. Happy daze.

Having followed the 'build' topic, seeing the finished instrument being (well...) played, and with obvious enthusiasm really rounds off the story. Wild applause for all involved; thanks for the 'build' share and thanks for the vision of the result. Just a couple of 'typos' to correct in the video and it'd be perfect..! . Great stuff.

There are nuances between 'playing for money', 'only playing for money' and 'playing only for money'. To each his/her own, of course; Having a broad outlook is not a Bad Thing, either. Just sayin'.
