  1. [quote name='Mykesbass' timestamp='1462556659' post='3044064'] Haven't found a version of theirs that it sounds like - we borrowed this from Susan Tedeschi! [/quote] Not much of what they played sounded the same twice in a row..! That's part of their charm.
  2. Sugaree..! [sharedmedia=core:attachments:167485]
  3. [quote name='ambient' timestamp='1462546043' post='3043940'] Maybe something like this ?... [/quote] Thanks for that; ordered. Looks to be just up my street. Cheers.
  4. Every Marketplace section has a link, just beneath the section title... ... I'll see if I can get it to be [color=#ff0000][b]Bold Red[/b][/color] ...
  5. [quote name='Mykesbass' timestamp='1462519827' post='3043660'] My band... [/quote] Very nice; very nice indeed. Good, solid, sober playing, authentic arrangement, excellent vocals (special mention...). If I could allow myself a tiny quibble..? Yes..? OK, but a tiny one: that darned snare, just that touch too dry and too present. Well played, but (to my old ears...), slightly out of context. OK, that's all. A ringing round of applause for all concerned. Good stuff.
  6. [quote name='Huge Hands' timestamp='1462526043' post='3043719'] Not sure on the "how many bumps per period" rule, but it has been a few days? [/quote] It's all there in the Marketplace Rules and Guidelines (see links in my signature...); worth a read-through, surely..? 'Bumping' is at a minimum of 36 hours interval. Hope this helps.
  7. [quote name='Nick Reed' timestamp='1462516212' post='3043624'] Not sure how to drop pics in here... [/quote] Using the BBCode link supplied by an external photo account such as Imgur is a good idea; the photos are better presented and it uses no BC server space. I use Imgur (it's free...); here's what it looks like (the correct link for Basschat is in green...) ... Other image hosting sites are similar. Hope this helps...
  8. [quote name='JapanAxe' timestamp='1462487281' post='3043560'] I am tempted to say 'physics' except that Blackstar have now released a bass version of the Fly 3, which is less than the size of a house brick! [/quote] 'Taint valve, though.
  9. [quote name='deaky' timestamp='1462466081' post='3043285']...a collection only sale... [/quote] One would hope, then, that you don't reside in Honolulu. It would help you if you'd fill in your Profile with your Location, and also add that Location information to the text of your ad. Just sayin'; good luck with the sale.
  10. [quote name='Bigwan' timestamp='1462461525' post='3043217'] Hernia?! 13kg?! What are men made of nowadays! Tsk, tsk, tsk... [/quote] Plus the amp in a case with the cables etc, and the (lightweight..?) bass... It all adds up, you know. It all seems to stem from this bass-specific need to have a 'one-trip' rig. I have a rug, a drum throne, three cymbal-drum stands, a pedal vanity case, five soft flight cases and a cymbal flight case to load in and out. Do I do that in one foul swoop..? The heck I do..! You've chosen well to go for bass. Could've gone for piccolo, though; even less to haul...
  11. [quote name='JapanAxe' timestamp='1462451005' post='3043095'] That'll be the 'grand stave' then Dad. [/quote] Indeed. I'm not suggesting that all should be written that way (it's cumbersome...); merely that it makes more sense, to me, to understand that the bass and treble staves are not so different or difficult to learn, if taken as parts of a whole. When reading one or the other, one is really only reading less than half a stave, so it's relatively easy..!
  12. I found that it helped, when I was doing this decades ago, to understand that these are two parts of the same stave, really, separated only by an absent 'Middle C' in between. Visualising the whole, 11-line stave enables reading in either upper or lower half, depending on context. Piano parts are often written across both halves, and pianists seem to manage OK, don't they..? Absorb the whole concept from the outset; then any one half becomes rather an 'easy' exercise, compared to reading the whole stave at once. I don't differentiate between treble or bass staves; they're just halves of a whole, really. Just my tuppence-worth; hope it helps.
  13. OK, I get the message. I've advanced a tad the fade-out, and rendered without the default 1-second 'tail'. It's uploading as I type; we'll see if it's crept under the 5-minute bar or not. Suspense... Edit: Yay..! 4'59"..! Result..! ([i]It won't garner any more votes for all that, all the same[/i]... )
  14. [quote name='Mornats' timestamp='1462394093' post='3042754'] Almost got mine at the stage where I'm happy and start mixing it. Only trouble is that it's 7.5 seconds too long! I'll see if I can swipe a couple of bars out of it... [/quote] Mine goes 3 seconds over the limit, and I'm not going to sweat blood about it..! Let it ride, chum. Rules is rules, but this is a Challenge, not a bid for an entry in a record book..! Just my view; others may differ (and let, 'em, I say..! Bunch of old fuddy-duddies if they do..!). ([i]S'my Punk attitude breaking surface, I fear. Sorry; I'll take my tablets now[/i]... )
  15. I have a similar need for recording 4-track drums, and ended up buying a Fostex MR 8-HD. Note the 'HD' (internal hard drive...), as it's this model that can record 4 simultaneous tracks from any mix of 4 mics or line (guitar etc...) sources. It's an 8 track, but only 4 at a time. Excellent quality sound, phantom power; it does the job for me. I export the WAV tracks to Reaper via USB. No longer made, of course, but can be found for around £100 or so. The important part is the 'HD', with 4 Xlr inputs. Simple enough to use, but a good quality result. Just a suggestion; any good..?
  16. [quote name='Twincam' timestamp='1462366117' post='3042403'] Well I see I'm at least drawn in last place with my fav piece this month currently!. So that might suggest my taste in noodles and my noodle making is crap haha. [/quote] Thanks for the side-swipe, old chum. 'Crap', indeed..! Harrumph..! ... Remind me of the original 'working title' of this subject again, please..?
  17. 'Straight' also impies that there's no twist. I take it to be a general, bland statement from a non-technical player, rather than an absolute affirmation of the physical state of the neck. It's about as informative as 'a few dings', or 'road worn'. I don't think folks really mean it's 'straight', merely that it's 'straight'.
  18. A pain in the rear, certainly, but I would still recommend either going back to the original luthier, or calling upon a more local capable person willing to help (there's a list [url="http://basschat.co.uk/topic/277468-bcers-prepared-to-help-fix-a-bass/page__view__findpost__p__2960497"]here...[/url] of BC candidates; no-one near enough, or a local bass tech..?). There are so many variables in play, and a fresh pair of eyes and ears could be useful in spotting the, perhaps, obvious..? Just sayin'. (I'd offer to have a look, myself, but it may be a bit too far, unless you're due a holiday soon..? )
  19. Volume is not a problem outdoors; it just goes as far as it goes. For a garden party, a pub rig is perfect (it's our staple format...). It's only when the stakes are 'upped' that reinforcement is needed. Think of a band-stand kiosk in a town square. There's a bass drum, cymbals, a snare; even a string bass or two. They're heard just fine, in the seats parked all around. The don't frighten the horses on the boulevard though, but that's not the intention, either. For a 'Lemmy' repertoire, all bets are off, of course.
  20. [quote name='4stringslow' timestamp='1462300568' post='3041962'] A lot depends on what is meant by 'outdoors'. Are we talking about a pub garden, a village green, a football stadium, Hyde Park . . . .?... [/quote] [quote name='PaulGibsonBass' timestamp='1462224723' post='3041328']...this coming weekend we've got a night time beer garden gig... [/quote]
  21. [quote name='charic' timestamp='1462278878' post='3041664'] I think I remember Fumps saying that Mayo removes glue residue [/quote] I think I remember Fumps saying "Oh look..! A bee..!" [sharedmedia=core:attachments:140863]
  22. Isn't Cambridgeshire where musicians go to get [i]away [/i]from the music scene; there, or Norfolk..?
  23. [quote name='luckydog' timestamp='1462279111' post='3041667'] Outdoors, drums sound pants without a decent PA, and once one has a decent PA it's business as usual for bass through it. Outdoors requires far more power to achieve the same level, and really that has to come from the PA to be sane...... Outdoors, bass rigs sound 'truer', if quieter, than they do indoors. But if the rig carries over un-mic'd drums indoors, it will outdoors too, just it will all be far quieter and drums in particular sound c**p !... [/quote] To be fair, good, well-tuned drums sound fine outdoors, but very different from in an ideal room, I'll agree. They won't project to the back of a football pitch, but should sound musical (they're instruments, after all..!). A single overhead and a bass drum mic work wonders in consolidating the overall sound, even with a modest 'vocal-only' PA, as long as one uses only a tiny bit of mic (not the 'disco thump', just a smidgen...). Just sayin'.
