  1. It still seems like an odd thing to mention (or to celebrate, really...). Whilst there are many that participate, there are far more to whom it's a day like any other. Still, whatever...
  2. Such proof is not asked when buying from other EU countries, it's simply assumed. No receipts to produce; VAT just doesn't apply to private s/h sales, s'all.
  3. It's not provable if (from France...), I buy second-hand from Germany, either. It's assumed, but not provable. Still, them's the rules, soooooo....
  4. And yet, when importing anything second-hand from abroad, VAT is charged on the whole value, plus the shipping; this, despite the taxes having already being paid when it was bought new. Hmm...
  5. IF you're not in too much of a hurry (I have to change a part of my printer, and Easter break slows things...) I can do this. If anyone chips in beforehand, take 'em up on it; otherwise... Watch this space..?
  6. Here is my contribution to the April 2023 Basschat Composition Challenge, illustrated with a picture chosen by Andy Travis. The studio burnt down in 1927; all that's left of the film being shot is this intriguing poster photo and a fragment of the film's piano roll, restored here in tribute. We can only speculate on the blockbuster that was sadly lost. Doctored MIDI piano files, sewn together and rendered 'human', played on the aptly-named Kontakt Emotional Piano. Minimal treatment; none was necessary Thanks for listening, if you already have; if you're about to, enjoy... 'The MIDI file performances are copyright (P) 1998 by Rodney Sauer, and you cannot use them to make money without my (ie: his...) permission. But you may use them for nonprofit enjoyment, including accompanying movies.'
  7. A Good Word, maybe, for he innovative drumming, too..? Sounds odd these days maybe, but it fits the style of the day, and beats the modern 'One... One... One...' disco beat hands down.
  8. I gave it till half time. I think that there may be a message or two in there; it's not clear.
  9. Define 'cheap, foreign'. If the folk working in the 'foreign' factories are getting a decent wage for their local economy, isn't that a Good Thing..?
  10. I've a notion, but it'll need quite some dexterity to concretise. I may be some time...
  11. Stick clear plastic film to the scratch-plate before lending it out..? OK too late for this one, but for another time...
  12. Ubiquitous here in France; the music shop I used to work in sold nothing but.
  13. There are, however, other keyboard layouts that work very well for all musical genres; especially useful when transposing 'on the fly'...
  14. And the winner is ... @AndyTravis..! Here, then, is your Winner's Certificates (download and save as pdf file, then proudly print and frame...) ... BC_Chal_Cert_2023_03.pdf ... which look like this (but bigger, of course..!)…
  15. A visit to your favourite bass tech might be in order, no..? Once every 13 years doesn't seem so bad, and he/she will know exactly what needs doing, if anything. Fret dressing and re-fretting are just standard maintenance tasks, for every fretted instrument that's been played a lot, and is entirely normal, just like changing tyres on a car. Hope this helps.
  16. I wouldn't know; I was simply responding to the bass cost aspect. The way of calculating inflation'n'all seems to differ from place to place, and from time to time (House prices included, and rents..? Price of clothes..? Cost of agricultural land..? Bass strings..?).
