Lots of debate about jazz basses. Mainly does country of origin and price reflect the quality? Personally I've played some 60's and 70's US Fender basses that have been dogs, while occasionally I've played a beauty. I own a few jap ones at the moment (1P + 2J) but that's been down to price, 2nd hand and of course, availability. I have bid for the occasional lefty vintage US lefty bass but the final price is always beyond what I'm willing to pay.

I bet Sting wouldn't touch his signature '51 P bass. In fact, if you try to take the pickguard off there is wire-routing holes underneath so you can't emulate how he plays his without guard. Especially hate the cheesy Sting logo at the 12th fret.

I have P bass chrome covers for sale on here and ebay at moment.

In that video, Jaco says he has problems playing some of his stuff on the P neck and he had massive hands! Mere mortals like us would be wishing for a J neck within minutes of playing that bass.

Well spotted :-) Sadly, I need to sell some gear to fund another project.

It's actually no problem for me with righties as I also play with strings in reverse so no change needed except position markers on edge of fretboard. That's why I prefer righty acoustics. All my lefty electric instruments have to have the nut reversed or changed although I can also play a little the normal way too and sometimes have a bass that is strung the proper way.

I've mostly stuck to symmetrical shaped bodies when playing righties upside down. I've owned 2 Hofner 500/1, Steinberger L2 fretless, Gibson EB0. Other righties I've had include a Vantage, Westone and Aria fretless. All current basses are lefty but my two acoustic guitars are righthand models.

It's not always an issue but when you see something that you would like to own but find it'd not offered as a lefty that is frustrating. Given that the most famous bass player alive in the world today is a lefty then it's even more of an issue and manufacturers should be pressured to produce lefty models for future talented southpaws out there.

Still waiting on a Bass mag doing a feature on why many manufacturers aren't offering lefty models across the range.

Only offer Ive had for my Ray is from the States but I don't post outwith EU.

The for sale thread has gone very quiet. Not enough lefties out there or just a lack of lefty traffic coming to the site?
