The IEM (in ear monitors) Bible thread
acidbass replied to EBS_freak's topic in Accessories and Misc
I had a set of the Lugs quad driver moulds and they just sounded like mush from the get go. The seal was good but no definition whatsoever in the sound, there was never enough treble and consequently it adversely affected my impression of vocals and other instruments. They were my primary earphone between UE11 and JH Roxannes and I couldn't get rid of them fast enough! Just my own experience. -
I'm with the mistake crowd. I prefer the 'fixed' version - just sounds better corrected IMO

Backup Needed - Copy Or Different Flavour?
acidbass replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
My spare would be one which was similar enough not to have to make wholesale EQ changes if called upon. Could cause issues for soundman etc too. -
Newcastle is great. The Geordies are such a warm and welcoming bunch of people with a great wit and sense of humour. There's a great football team there too which it seems 99% of the city follow intently. One of my favourite cities in the UK for sure.

In my experience, drummers mostly like to hear themselves over others - I guess it's what they are used to. Perhaps a single overhead mic (well positioned) might do the trick? -
Love Killing Joke - really just discovered the band around a month ago. Love Like Blood is superb!

I assumed the ZS10 and ZS10 Pro were just two different names for the same earphone? There is a Pro X which appears to be a different product, but no differential between ZS10 and Pro on their website. -
La Bella Deep Talkin' flats on StingRay?
acidbass replied to StingRayBoy42's topic in Accessories and Misc
I would think about a lower tension flat than the Deep Talkin if you play over the Stingray bridge pickup. The tension there would be quite high. -
Just got Snakepit tickets for both nights in Amsterdam, April 2023! Can't wait!
-
In my experience of Roto RS66s, 8 hours playtime is more than enough to wear out a string.

Just in the door at home after a weekend of smashing gigs in the UAE - first time over there, it's totally amazing! Brought 2016 US P Bass, HX Stomp and IEMs with me and it sounded great! Local crew over there were superb and provided all PA stuff. Can't wait to get back over there!

String/pole piece spacing on HB Guitarbass VI
acidbass replied to Franticsmurf's topic in Bass Guitars
It certainly is. While the pickup itself is wound in a single coil - the positioning over pole pieces greatly affects the vibration of the string within the magnetic field. This phenomenon led to the infamous Stingray weak G syndrome for over 40 years before finally being corrected. -
String/pole piece spacing on HB Guitarbass VI
acidbass replied to Franticsmurf's topic in Bass Guitars
People will tell you that it doesn't make a difference - aesthetically it does and IMHO also sonically. The magnetic field that a string vibrates in is different depending on how much of the string is above the pole piece. For me, consistency is key and I feel the same about strings being perfectly centred between pole pieces (e.g. J and P basses) -

Off topic, but quite a lot of FOH engineers now on large tours will mix in stereo. An example would be if the singer points to the brass section for a solo section, it makes sense to the audience that the sound should come from that side of the stage. It's never hard panned, but the stereo field is utilised often. -
I love mine, it's a great vibe and look for acoustic/jazz gigs. I have La Bella 760FS on mine and they are fantastic, although I have considered a slightly lighter gauge (760FL perhaps). The tone is beaut!

Remember it well! Welcome to BC

Very sad news indeed. Another good guy gone.

any jazz bass pickups with adjustable pole pieces?
acidbass replied to shoulderpet's topic in Accessories and Misc
Have you seen the new Di Marzio Relentless J pickups? They have adjustable pole pieces: https://www.dimarzio.com/pickups/standard-bass/relentless-j-pair -
All strung top load only. I'm never convinced about the break angle for the thru body stringing!
-
Love this! I have a thing for post 2010 white US Fenders (with the US****** serial numbers) - they are just immense! I have five of them! My P's are strung with La Bella 760FS and they just bark.

I love stereo IEMs. The separation between instruments is so much better, I don't have the beltpack as loud as a result and everything sounds clearer in the mix. Typically, I pan drums to the right, all other band members to the left and have myself in the middle of the stereo field. -
Bought quite a few guitars from mainland UK and had them sent here with absolutely no issues. Courier booked in the normal way with no additional forms or paperwork at all.
