1. Yeah agreed that the four guys make up the public face of the Stones, but they spent a large proportion of the documentary interviewing tour guys etc, and not a word with DJ. The backing singers also featured in a lot more shots than he did. And isn't he a band member officially? Mention also for the keys player who has been with them since the 60s and again no focus.
2. Just watched this and was hugely disappointed with the almost complete lack of Darryl Jones! For someone who has been in the band for 25 years or something. And a great player he is too.
3. Apologies if this has been done already, but it's for a good cause and the extra thread will only do good. http://www.level42.com/2016/12/02/mark-kings-gold-paramatrix-kingbass-for-auction/ Lovely bass! Any BCers in the running? D
4. It could be worse - you could be a keys player talking about how bass guitar gets all the glory.
5. Wow Eric Haydock - great endorsement. Love the Hollies! GLWTS
6. Has he surpassed Take That as a solo artist I wonder?
7. Awesome show, the performance and choreography was amazing, top top band (Karl Brazil on drums?) Love this sort of polished high energy pop!
8. Walk the Moon - Shut Up and Dance Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop the Feeling Both quality!
9. Had the tube version for a while and loved it! Only sold it as I changed my lightweight setup to a touring rig. Great value for money tho!
10. IMO flats sound much nicer with the tone rolled off completely.
11. I'd get a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz Bass and upgrade the pots/loom/output jack, that would be a cracking bass for about £300.
12. £70 a man standard for bars here in Northern Ireland too. Some of the larger club-style setups pay more but also expect you to tailor your set to entertain the crowd and keep them drinking
13. Also Bowie 'Jean Genie' - first chorus, Trevor Bolder drops a clanger holding on to the verse chord for too long, before Bowie tells him to 'get back on it'. Love the way they left the vocal in!
14. Stevie Wonder 'Sir Duke' - listen to the differences in how the brass break is played. All the musos recorded their parts seperately, some swung it and some played it straight. A lot going on there!
15. I think it sounds quality! YMMV
16. I believe Carol is a great player and has certainly recorded some amazing bass parts on a lot of the West Coast hits of the late 60s. But her claims regarding the Motown stuff are simply ridiculous. I find her opinions on Facebook grate on me, and they have become particularly outlandish in her old age which is rather sad. I still shiver when I read her frequent claims that '(my) Ibanez sounds more like a Fender Bass than a Fender Bass'. What? Despite this, she remains my Facebook friend out of respect and because she is clearly such a font of knowledge. Also - have used her felt muting technique in studios and the engineers do indeed love it! D
17. I have heard a lot of similar complaints. Have you tried adjusting the pickup height on the treble side?
18.
Where's all the Warwicks?
Where are*
19. Hi All Quick question - I seem to recall reading that a lot of the Maruszczyk club pay for their instruments using a particularly good-value third party, which helps with the hurt of the exchange rate! Planning to buy from Europe, but the name of the service eludes me. Help?! Thanks Danny
20. I prefer smaller vintage frets actually, after having played the Squier Classic Vibe series extensively. Fretting a note (seems) to require less effort. Obviously there is less wear and tear in a smaller fret, so if I were getting a neck made, I would specify stainless steel frets.
21. There's a guy on Facebook getting some great sounds from his Hammersmith basses - check out Remco Hendriks.
22. The Feeling have loads of good modern rock stuff that's catchy. Love It When You Call and Never Be Lonely are belters
23. Drumming far too busy for me, Pino definitely more restrained as a result IMO.
24. In my experience, democracy doesn't work in a band. All the best ones have a dedicated MD, dedicated Manager, booking agent and so on. I love having a place in a band like that actually.
