    Possibly so, but the one I had didn't have any centre detents on the knobs, meaning you really didn't know where was flat. Seemed completely counter-intuitive. On the other hand, some active pres really make sense to me, e.g. the G&L pre.

    Overrated - All Aguilar amps. 40hz for the Bass control is just too low to be useful as anything other than a cut. - John East preamps - could not gel with it at all, but I tend to favour passive basses anyway. - Mono gig bags. I have one and an old Fender gigbag that cost £40 has almost as much padding - the Mono cost £200+ - TI flats - too loose a tension for me, feel rubbery under the fingers - All Stingray basses pre 2018 - weak G syndrome, poorly designed and incorrect pickup alignment - Barefaced cabs - way too woofy, too much bottom end - All stainless steel strings - there is just a missing frequency in the midrange somewhere that you get with nickels - Slap bass Underrated - Good IEMs - a total game changer - HPF in the signal chain - secret tone sauce!

    Hi all Selling this beauty of an Ashdown amp head I'm the second owner and it has been stored all its life in the supplied carry bag which is a handy addition. In good condition with only a few minor scratches on top which don't break the surface (pictured) 800 watts weighing 4.5kg, full specs here: https://ashdownmusic.com/products/rm-800 In the interests of full disclosure - the EQ on/off button can be a bit temperamental when pushing on/off. However with a couple of tries it works fine. I didn't find this problematic as I never understood the need to turn the EQ off! However it's best a buyer knows this just in case Yours for the princely sum of 31p per watt - or £250 in old money, plus fully insured postage to UK which I would estimate at a tenner maybe.     I like to fret the last fret and measure the distance between string and pole pieces for each string. The gap is usually 4mm for me bass side and 3mm treble side. I find that has a high enough output with no clicking noise.

    What's your pickup height (i.e. distance from the strings)? I believe this affects tone more than is talked about really.

    Anyone ever successfully replaced a memory wire on an earphone? The one on my left JH Roxanne has broken inside the sleeve. Slightly annoying as now the earpiece isn't quite fixed in place. I don't really fancy paying £200 for a new cable just to replace the memory wire so hoping there is an alternative solution.

    Flats-wise, I started with TIs and found tension to be much too floppy, so graduated to La Bella Deep Talkin which I have been using for around 10 years. Rounds-wise, I have always been a nickel guy. The first brand I used was Elixir and then moved to DR Lo Rider. Back to Elixir now for the lifespan and tone, as I don't really use roundwounds on my basses so it's nice to have a fresh sounding set when they are called upon.

    Hi all! Selling this brand new and unused Sansamp BDDI v2. Bought for a project that never materialised. Has the Mid control which is a huge bonus compared to the v1 Bass Driver.     Been using a HPF block on Helix patches since I got it, set to 40hz. Much more efficient low end especially when using an amp. I also have a Thumpinator on my analogue board. I honestly couldn't imagine doing a gig without one now.

Unleash your inner Cliff Burton \m/ This is essentially brand new - bought at the start of this year and never used. In fact, it has never been out of the box and I have taken it out today for the first time for pics! The 20/20 range have a much smaller footprint than the massive old school Morley wahs so this is great for a compact pedalboard.     PRICE DROP TO £450 Hi all! Selling this beautiful Epiphone Jack Casady bass in Ebony Black. This really is an immaculate example of a cult classic and I can find no marks anywhere on it, with just a minor bit of swirling in the finish. Unsure of year (I bought it second hand) but it's in superb condition. I love this bass but have just bought the Alpine White version and don't need both! The range of tones is exceptional, I used it for some acoustic and jazz stuff on the 50 setting and it fit right in, with loads of compliments about the look obviously! The warm bloom of the note with the hollowbody is just lovely. Flick a switch to 500 and you have a big up-front modern sound which pairs very well with a high gain amp or pedal. With flats it's also a whole other level. As I said above - I like these basses so much, I bought a white one which I will cherish as much as I have this one. Set up and intonated perfectly tonight with brand new Roto Nickels and it's singing like a bird with a fairly standard action of 3mm at fret 17. I have removed the scratchplate as I love the look without it, but I will of course include this in the sale. Price is £450 and I can post to anywhere in the UK for an additional £20, and she will be very well packaged. No trades thanks! Please PM me with any questions Thanks for looking Danny

    Yes I am looking at some options now. I see 64 Audio make a useful looking clip. I might order a bunch of different designs and see which one works best. Definitely think avoiding tug on the cable would make for a more secure fit throughout the gig.

    Probably been asked on the thread somewhere - but are any of you guys using shirt clips to secure your IEMs? I'm quite an active performer and run the cable under my shirt to wireless belt pack. The cable hangs loose other than that. The weight of my guitar strap somewhat secures it in place under my shirt - but I see some guys clipping the cable to the rear collar of their shirt/tee etc. I guess it would help prevent tug on the cable and subsequent loosening of the phones. Any suggestions? Pros/cons?

    Relicing on poly finishes makes me feel queasy. Reminds me of this monstrosity that was for sale in Ireland recently. Surprisingly, it sold.

    Went for the Neotech medium pouch and it fits the strap perfectly. Flawless operation so far from the Shure - might order a slightly shorter jack cable for it but otherwise very pleased!

    I use ZS10s as my backup set and I'm not sure you can get absolutely rumbling low end from them. Maybe worth trying a larger tip to improve the seal - Comply make good foam ones that have improved mine a bit.

    I would suggest teaching too, even on a peripatetic basis. If you teach during the majority of the school year (say Sept to May) it still leaves you free for your busy gigging period. I found that making a living from just playing functions/gigs is virtually impossible to sustain year-round - so having something else always helps.
