1. Good to see a few more NI members on the forum! Where abouts are you based? In any notable bands that I might be able to catch on the local scene? You are of course very welcome, enjoy your stay!
2.
a squire p-bass would be a good and cheap donner guitar
What? A Squier P Bass is comparable to my Saturday night aprés-10 pints sustenance?
3. Please add me to the list too! This sounds like a great read. Danny
4. Yeah, bring along a mate, plenty of CDs and stuff and make a trip of it!
5. 1. No 5a. Yes 5b. Depends on the size of the venue, but in a 400 capacity venue we normally pay £3-400. We do however hire from a professional live sound company who supply nothing but the best - normally Turbosound but we've also had Dynacord, high end Mackie, HK Audio and the like. Professional standard lights normally run us around £1-200, that includes those little rotating head lights, strobes, hazers, spots etc. Both systems include operators and roadies. 6. We supply venues with a technical specification of what the band needs to play the gig, so that they can source the equipment locally. In this case, we don't include the cost of PA. We also let the venue know that we can supply the full sound and lights at an additional cost, so it's really up to them which they prefer. Normally they pay us extra to book and bring our own, it's just less hassle for the promoter. I honestly can't imagine my band owning and operating PA and lights. Being in an 8 piece band, it's hard enough work lugging the backline around!
6. Trace Elliot GP12 SMX Great combo for a great price - I contacted the seller and he said he'd package the amp if the winning bidder arranged courier collection (which would be around £20) It didn't sell last time with a start price of £350, so I'd imagine his reserve is around £300. Someone could bag a bargain! Danny
7. In the last week of so I've learned/relearned - 'Too Young To Die' - Jamiroquai 'Sir Duke' - Stevie Wonder 'Rio' - Duran Duran Lots of nice muted notes and frantic playing - great for a workout! I think I'll start most of my warmups with one or more of these tunes!
8. I've had them ship to me in Northern Ireland, and although it costs a little more they do deliver quite fast. Their customer service is also good should you have any problems! Danny
9. Probably something to do with the source codes?
10. Normally auditions for this kinda thing would involve you playing a piece of your own as well as a piece they give you. Can you sight read music? I know when I auditioned for a Big Band around 6 months ago, they just handed me a piece of music and asked me to play it a couple of minutes later. I'd imagine that for any kind of large ensemble, the ability to sight read is always an advantage anyway! If you can do that proficiently as well as having a high standard of technical ability then you should have no problems! Good luck with the audition and let us know how you do! Danny
11. As long as you have enough power available from your head, there should be no problem using a Trace cabinet alongside a Hartke one! Let us know how you get on Danny
12.
tbf if i do need to sand the whole headstock, il probably just do the front n sides and leave the back, so that i dont have to worry bout matchin it perfectly
If you're gonna sand the headstock and refinish it, you may as well do the back of the neck too IMO to make it more professional looking. Just remember to apply 3 or 4 layers of lacquer evenly with a light steel wool application between coats and you should end up with a nice finish.
13. There's a really nice t-shirt in DV8 at the moment featuring a number of effects pedals on the front of it, all connected in series. Might be one for you effects heads to check out?
14. Just suggest some tunes from the 'Genericana' genre, ie Green Onions, Stormy Monday, The Thrill Is Gone and so on. Perfectly good to jam to, and well known enough so as to attract a crowd.
15. Alternatively, you could buy a USA head and step down transformer to use it in the UK. Another piece of equipment to carry to gigs of course, but you could still make a substantial saving on the cost of buying the same head in the UK.
16. That's a very obscure setlist for a house band that plays rock and blues! The only tunes I could make a stab at without practicing would be Southern Man, Sitting On Top Of The World and Dixie Chicken. The rest -
17. I believe it's - G:------------------------------ D:-----------------------4--5--- A:5--x5-2-x3-x2-0--------------- E:------------------0--2--3----- The x's standing for muted notes which just come right before the actual note (ghost notes almost?) So that'd be D B C B A ....from the D you talk about. Hope this helps! Danny
18. I'd love one too but that one seems a little too bruised for my tastes. That, plus the $250 shipping to the UK! Could still end up a bargain as you say though.
19. Hello all, Does anyone here have personal business cards for their bass playing skills? The reason I've been thinking about this is because I've bumped into a number of musical celebrities in the last week (Shayne Ward, Gary Lightbody, Michael Schenker to name but a few!) and thought it'd be good to give them a business card if they ever needed a bass player for live or studio work. I realise this might be a little unrealistic to expect a phone call from one of these guys, but it wouldn't hurt to give them one! What do you all think? Would they be a worthy investment? Thanks! Danny
20. I regularly gig with one of these and love it to bits! I'd probably buy this one if I could justify running my live setup in stereo Best of luck with the sale!
21. It might help if you posted a bigger photo of your amp? Just so that buyers know what they're buying! Are both items in good condition?
22. It sounds to me like a Fender Precision played with right hand muting?
23. I'd love a matching Strat and Tele for those guitar noodling moments, probably Olympic White with Maple Necks and Brown Tortoiseshell guards. All through a nice modern valve amp like a DeVille or Peavey Classic 30! Oh the GAS....
24. That string cleaner stuff (Fast Fret is it?) - it just makes the strings feel really greasy to me. I prefer a rougher string for grip purposes personally!
