1. Hello all, Not really 'Amps and Cabinets' material but I figured this is probably the place best suited to my question! It's a simple question, so hopefully someone can help me out! I'm buying a multicore snake to connect my band's mics, DI's etc etc to the desk, probably 30m in length, and I'm looking at a 16/4 version (ie 16 sends and 4 returns) My question is this - would 4 returns be enough for an average band or would I need more? It would be used to feed 2 powered tops and 2 powered subs as well as a couple of powered monitors, and although maths is not my speciality I believe this would require 6 returns? Or am I wrong? Can I roll with the 16/4 and get some sort of signal splitter on stage to feed all 4 FOH speakers from the same return? Or is there a simpler solution? I hope I've made myself clear! Thanks for reading, Danny
2.
Are there any issues with `delay` between what you play and what you hear? also is `latency`an issue or is that the same problem I`ve just asked ?
Yes, latency refers to the time it takes for your playing to be heard. The lower the better obviously! I'm also contemplating buying something similar to what you've asked for so will be watching this thread with great interest.
3. You LUCKY LUCKY man! I'd absolutely love to play a gig with a Who tribute band. You'll have a great time of it, their music is so energetic when played live. I suggest you take a look at some of their live videos on Youtube etc, from the Isle Of Wight Festival, Woodstock etc etc, that'll give you an idea of the pure power of the music you'll be playing. Best of luck mate - enjoy every minute of it! JEALOUS Danny PS - watch the drummer VERY closely!
4.
The bass drum idea is a good one but our drummer uses a digital kit.
You LUCKY, LUCKY man! I wish my drummer would use one of those!
5.
True, The album Its Hard by a band called The Who springs to mind.
Haha, never a truer statement! I don't like a single tune off that album and I'm a huge Who fan too.
6. I love The Who. That performance of WGFA is (in my opinion) one of the greatest rock songs performed by one of the greatest bands ever. And the bass playing is just phenomenal! Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions, I know there are a hell of a lot of Who fans on here who'd agree with my 2 cents!
7. Xanadu Freewill La Villa Strangiato YYZ Red Barchetta Tom Sawyer Spirit Of Radio Working Man ...all spring to mind. Fantastic tunes! Anything off Exit Stage Left is required listening too IMO! Enjoy your Rush experience - it was so much fun getting into them, hopefully you'll feel the same!
8. Which mic are you using? Is the pickup pattern cardioid, supercardioid or something else? It's quite possible that if you place the wedge directly in front of the microphone stand that the mic will pick up some of the monitor feed. I know this has been the case for me in the past when using supercardioids, as the pickup pattern was as below: Is this of any help? Apart from that I can only really suggest a problem with a cable somewhere along the line, or perhaps the monitors themselves are to blame? Danny
9. Gerry McAvoy Rod deAth ...of the Rory Gallagher band. Tight, funky and a great basis for Rory to lay down his lines!
10.
The Who
+1
11. Hello all, I'm passing on this message for a friend of mine, hopefully there are some Rick users on here who can help - "I recently have got my hands on a rickenbacker 4003 series bass. It plays like a dream and sounds good but it seems to be missing a kick. I used to have an active bass and I know that they are generally pack a harder punch than most basses but this rickenbacker is really losing a lot. I have the input and output up on my ashdown amp to nearly double what I used to have it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to maybe get a bigger sound out of it. Any pedal ideas, such as EQ's etc..." So what do all you guys do? I know it's normally true that active basses are hotter than passive ones - does anyone on here use both a Rick and an active bass? How do you balance the outputs? Cheers guys! Danny
12. I've played support to The Drifters ('There Goes My Baby', 'Under The Boardwalk' etc). Nice guys, great voices! I've also played with the original members of Folk Rock band Horslips. That's my 2 cents!
13. I'm not sure it would be as resonant or robust as a body made from say Alder or Ash, but if it sounds good to your ears - then it's a good tonewood!
14. I'm pretty sure someone on here owns a H+S bass actually. I looked at them myself, they certainly seem very good value even if they are just planks of wood - if you don't like it you could always use the parts for a custom job as you say!
15. You can buy a non-Fender bridge cover that fits over a BadAssII bridge comfortably, they used to sell it on basspartsresource.com but it appears that they don't stock it anymore. Perhaps worth investigating? I'm not sure of the manufacturer but I know they're definitely for sale out there somewhere!
16. RoqSolid do a large selection of quality padded vinyl covers, I had a couple for my Ampeg cabinets. They also do custom orders if you send them the dimensions. Hope this helps
17. Some great advice in this thread guys! I've been contemplating swapping out the MECs in my Warwick for something a little different, although the sound I get at the moment is pretty good ever since I put a set of flatwounds on. I think that the stock setup of most Warwicks leads to a very middle-y sound (growl if you will). Normally a little bass boost on the preamp fills out the sound to my desired level.
18. This makes me ILL watching it! They are SO good!
19. I use Dunlop Tortex 0.73mm picks, they do the job just fine! I just played a full show using a pick for the first time last week and didn't have any problems with it. The sound was great!
20. After struggling with my EQ set up for a few months in my band, I've reverted to setting my EQ on bass and amp totally flat. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems to sound the best!
21.
Did Ampeg's first bass guitar model predate the Fender Precision?
No, this model was probably made around 1966, and the first Fender Precision was made around 1951 (as far as I know)
22. I'm also very interested to hear people's opinions on this - I was thinking of upgrading the preamp and pickups on my '97 Stage II to get a bit more oomph out of what is already a great bass. Did the EMG's make much of a difference on your Stage II, warwickhunt? They'd be my preferred pickup if I ever did upgrade I think. Cheers!
23. I'm 20 and play only 4 stringers I'm quite a busy player but always have groove at the forefront of my mind. My role model is John Entwistle, specifically from 1965 to 1978, as I don't care much for his style or tone from the 80's onwards (all that tapping and synthy stuff) I like to think I'm quite a melodic player too and know my fair share of music theory to this effect! So....that's me really!
