1. After struggling with my EQ set up for a few months in my band, I've reverted to setting my EQ on bass and amp totally flat. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems to sound the best!
2.
Did Ampeg's first bass guitar model predate the Fender Precision?
No, this model was probably made around 1966, and the first Fender Precision was made around 1951 (as far as I know)
3. I'm also very interested to hear people's opinions on this - I was thinking of upgrading the preamp and pickups on my '97 Stage II to get a bit more oomph out of what is already a great bass. Did the EMG's make much of a difference on your Stage II, warwickhunt? They'd be my preferred pickup if I ever did upgrade I think. Cheers!
4. I'm 20 and play only 4 stringers I'm quite a busy player but always have groove at the forefront of my mind. My role model is John Entwistle, specifically from 1965 to 1978, as I don't care much for his style or tone from the 80's onwards (all that tapping and synthy stuff) I like to think I'm quite a melodic player too and know my fair share of music theory to this effect! So....that's me really!
5. "Play some country"
6. If that Olympic White Precision had have come up for sale this time last week, I'd have had it in a flash! Lovely bass! Best of luck with the sale
7. I'd just advice playing with the tone knob on your P up full, and with a lot of high mids and treble on the amp. That punky tone is all about the high end, and it's really hard to beat a Precision Bass to replicate it.
8. Hello all, Simple question really - does the Badass III bridge (which comes with the saddles preslotted) fit onto any Fender body? I know the Badass III has 3 mounting holes, whereas the normal Fender bridge has 5. Will this make a difference, and does anyone currently use one on any of their Fenders? Cheers guys, Danny
9. AFAIK it's because all bridges have serial numbers on them, which the owner can use to order whatever parts he/she wants from EB.
10. John Entwistle used an 8 string bass on occasion, two songs which I can remember offhand are - You (off Faces Dances) Trick Of The Light (off Who Are You) I *think* he used one for the intro of 'Success Story' too, but I'm not sure about this. Great sound anyway Hope this helps! Danny
11. One of the best Fenders in production IMO. A great bass! Best of luck with it
12. AFAIK the guy has stopped making guitars and basses as custom orders. He just makes them now as a hobby and sells them when he's done. Luke Ward has one I believe, a Precision Bass, you can spy him on the Bravewood site with it if you look hard enough! I'd love one too myself, but sadly when I got in contact with them I was given the bad news!
13. I had this same problem with Internet Explorer 7, on this site and others. Firefox is normal though, hence my change of browser!
14. Bump, price reduced
15. I've bitten the bullet and put a set of Rotosound Jazz 77 flatwounds (45-105) on my Warwick. Recently I've been wanting a more vintage, thumpy sound as opposed to a hifi sound, and as I've got an approximate EQ I thought I'd back it up with a nice set of flats! Initial impressions - they feel a lot different, even to the TI flats I have on my fretless, they're quite grippy actually which is a good thing. The tension is also noticeably higher than the rounds I used before, the D'Addario Prosteels. I find that playing nearer the neck helps even out the response that I was used to. Haven't tried it through an amp yet, but through my Pandora PX4B it sounds great - no sharp high end, even when the treble is rolled up full, and a nice even response across the strings. Happy customer here so far
16. Your camera seems to have a problem displaying colours?
17. Wow, what a great opportunity for all you English bassists! If I wasn't in Northern Ireland......
18.
I guess the actor Harry Shearer should get a mention for being Derek Smalls from the legendary Spinal Tap. Is there any program he hasn't been in? http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0790434/
On the same note (no pun intended) - Rik Mayall played bass for spoof band Bad News, and so he probably knows a thing or two about the old low end!
19. I am fast becoming a fan of the Black on Black combination after rubbishing it for many years - that is simply stunning!

Too quiet!

You'll need some sort of preamp/interface in order to convert the signal level output of your bass to line level. An active bass will only have a slightly higher output than a passive (in most cases), but in order for you to make the most of your Line In, you'll need a Line Level signal.
21. You could of course buy the official Fender aftermarket ones, although they require a more permanent installation. They'd certainly look (and sound) the dogs if you had a Fender. Linkage
22.
Pete Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Keith Moon, John Entwistle.
+1 with Jon Lord on keys!
23.
The Who - John Entwistle.
+2
24.
How about anything by John Illsley of Dire Straits? Did he actually do anything to earn his £40-odd million?
I think his bassline on Sultans Of Swing is very groovy actually, definitely not the most technical bassline I've ever heard but it just goes so well with the progression IMO
25.
ampeg did not invent bass amplification!
True. People really will do anything to sell an overpriced piece of software
