1. I'd say out of those three you mentioned, definitely yes! Flea is just an imitator (in more ways than one it seems )
2. Mine is 34" in length. I totally agree with 'paul, the' above - I bought my Warwick on a whim a few years ago and didn't get on with it at first, however now I've grown so attached to it that when I play another bass, it just feels odd.
3.
Mute switch on the front, with footswitch option - keep bass silent while not playing or changing basses DI output on the front - when the amps in the rack I don't want to have to fiddle around in the back of the rack case to attach a cable each gig ! Tuner output on the rear - I use a rack tuner but ideally I'd think tuner out on both the front & rear (or in-built tuner would be nice) Power Switch on the front - again, don't want to fumble around trying to connect or switch on power to the amp
My SVT-4PRO (which I am, coincidentally, selling) has 3 of the 4, excluding the front DI out. The rear one is easily accessed though. I'm not sure there are any amps in large scale production out there which have all 4 of these features, though I stand to be corrected? Danny
4.
Have you seen this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfDE-ZvfOwU
This DEFINITELY has to be made a sticky! I've lost count of the amount of times this has been posted on BW/BT/BC Always worth a watch though!
Lots of my favourite Ox lines have already been suggested - how about Substitute. Take the bass line away and there is not much of a song.
+1000. Every track Entwistle plays on has my favourite bassline! The most fun to play IMO are - WGFA (as in video above) The Ox Dreaming From The Waist Success Story Heaven and Hell (Live At Leeds or IOW versions are sublime) Doctor Doctor (great fun to play and sing, I hope my voice never breaks!) So yeah! JE all the way.
5. Very nice sound Luke! We tried a desk recording once and the result was pants! Did you DI or mic when going to the PA?
6. Ok guys....after a lot of great recommendations, I've went and bought a Korg Pandora PX4B off eBay, it does seem like the swiss army knife of any bassist's kit bag - full report to follow when I receive it I also bought a pair of AKG K55 headphones to go with it, I know these come highly rated on BW too so hopefully they should sort out my home practicing needs for the foreseeable future! Thanks to everyone who posted for help on the matter! Some good info in this thread
7. Great bass solo! Very true about what people have been saying about Primus being a bit dissonant at times, but Les is definitely a funky, rhythmic player whilst not being overly technical. In saying that, I wouldn't mind being able to play his basslines properly though
8.
I think it's great discussing & comparing picks - isn't this what forums are all about?!
Yes indeed! This is a new era for BC now that I'm a moderator
9. Hello guys, Just wondering which plectrums you pickstyle players all use? I've recently started playing with a plectrum for a few songs in my new band, and I'm currently using Dunlop Tortex Yellows (0.73mm) and am very happy with them. So....any suggestions? What's your favourite? Cheers, Danny
10. I use a generic strap that I received with my Warwick - it has a suede back so it's quite grippy and the bass stays in position when playing standing up. Are the Comfort Strapps grippy too? I've been looking at these and considering buying one as we speak!
11. Wow, that Jazz is superb! Great basses again
12. As has been said in the other two topics - beautiful basses mate!
13. Lovely selection of basses Homer! I remember most of those floating around the forums over the years - glad you've found your two ideal basses now, I particularly love your Sterling!
14. I think Tommy Shannon used Peavey amps on the Live At Montreux first DVD, and he gets a great blues sound! Nowadays there would be a lot more options available though, +1 for the all valve option! The Ampeg V4B or CL would be perfect!
15. Bought a bass off him way back in the BW days (fretless Squier) and it arrived safe and in great condition! Highly recommended.
16. Learn the pentatonic scale in each of the different positions, and that's all you need to know!
17.
You thinking of a replacement for your ampeg rig danny?
Yes, indeed I am! I'm going for the one cab setup, full range with either 10's or 12's. I'm thinking the 4x12 or the 6x10, I've heard great reviews of both so it's really hard to decide without trying them out! I'm looking for warmth and bass as much as punch - I may have to use the cab to hold down the low end for some gigs where I won't go through the PA, so low end is a must. The cabs definitely have impressive ratings for both RMS wattage and frequency spectrum though. Cheers for all the advice guys, it's cleared up things a bit for me! Now - to the bank! Danny
18. Another simply stunning example of a bass! This is how they should look IMO! May you have many happy years of playing it! After which you'll sell it to me at a knockdown rate, as you have played it for so many years and have subsequently felt like a change.
19. Great to see the change of basses over the years - I too remember the days when you had the Spectors! A lovely selection of basses nonetheless, and now that you have the benefit of retrospect you'll be able to give us lads a lot more recommendations than your average BCer I'm sure! Great porn, and good to see you around again mate, Danny
20. Some of them are for the string mutes, aren't they? Someone has definitely added some extra ones too over the years though.
21. Simple really! What's the difference between these two companies? There are two seperate websites, two seperate brand logos, and yet all the cabinets are similar, and with similar brand names. The contact address for both companies is also exactly the same. I know we have users of both brands on this forum, so can anyone fill me in? Cheers! Danny
22. Band: Camel - The Snow Goose Bassist: Douglas Ferguson I've been listening to this album constantly over the last fortnight - classic progressive rock! Hard to go wrong when you're a rock band with a flute player really. Rhayader and Rhayader Goes To Town form an epic combination of songs - a really great listen.
23. Quote from the auction - "The body was also refinished in natural at that time" Still a cracking bass nonetheless!
