1.
John Myung again? think I'll give this issue a miss, like the last one.
+1. Articles about Myung really don't interest me, much like his playing. Each to his own though I suppose!
2.
the fingering is not as you would normally expect... he tends to stay down on the E and A strings and moves around a lot on those two
I've noticed this with quite a lot of blues bass players - it doesn't really seem economical at all, given that you have to move positions a lot more? Always wondered why people do this instead of playing the D and G strings to reach the notes they desire.
3.
Really, he should have applied another coat in the autumn.. The frost has got at it terrible and I'm sure the sun will do further damage.
Ah yes, but Cuprinol is guaranteed for 12 months per application - I think he should really return it to his local Homebase as it obviously doesn't do what it says on the tin.
4. Another great, underrated player. As you say, Blues does have a lot of repetitive patterns that even the best players employ, but he does manage to keep it interesting and fresh in each line he plays. Also works really well with the drummer (Chris Layton?) to create a great rhythm section. Certainly not the easiest position to fill, standing behind SRV and laying down the rhythm, but they both do it brilliantly.
5.
In fairness the SII is vastly inferior in appearance to the SI and that does it no favours at all!
In your opinion. In mine, the SSII is a beautiful instrument! Such a shame that it had to be butchered in the way that it was.
6.
nice, and beleive it or not until today i hadn't heard any Rush songs before, boy have i been missing out. now i just wanna go and learn YYZ, anyone got any tabs for that?
There are a couple of good ones on the usual tab sites, UG and the like. Good luck learning it by the way, it's quite a hectic bassline
7. And JUST before I decided to sell mine! Oh well
8.
what's this ampeg simulator? it's the speeding up/slowing down mp3s that i'd be interested in
It's the Ampeg SVX
9.

Grrrrr.....I so damn envious of both your rig and photography skills! (more the rig though )
10. Equip the room with the best quality gear that you can afford - that way, you'll be the best practice room around and no one will even think about starting their own to compete with you. If they do, you have the best equipment! I'd also make all the bands who want to practice there sign a contract saying that if they break any equipment, they'll pay for it. You are, after all, providing them with a service, and so being business-like in your actions will not hurt.
11. Hello all, Basically, I've been using my Hartke combo with a pair of headphones to practice quietly at my house for the last year or so. However, the combo is quite bulky for me to have in the living room at all times, so I'm looking for a portable replacement. What do you guys use? I could play the bass unplugged obviously, but I like the idea of wearing headphones for a bit more volume. So...any suggestions? Cheers in advance, Danny
12. I don't think writing a bassline is considered as a songwriting credit. I *think* that it's only the sequence, melody and lyrics that are covered by copyright. A lot of session players are paid set fees which are agreed before a single note is played, so maybe you should talk it over with whoever is organising the session to see if you can reach some sort of agreement?
13.
Do you guys think that the different speaker options will make enough of a difference with a 100watt combo to be worthy of consideration? It strikes me that a 1x12 will naturally be more portable, but a 2x10 will offer a clearer / crisper sound?
Those are the two main advantages of each really, you may find that the 2x10 will appear louder as the two speakers are handling smaller loads and spreading the sound more evenly. The 1x12 may have an increased midrange though, and you may find that it cuts through better in a live situation.
14. Linky Linky As OG says, the review in BP Mag was also very good, I think Ed Friedland did it too.
15. Amazing! Loved every minute of it!
16. Hello mate, I've not had any experience with the particular combo you're looking at, but I have played countless gigs with a Fender Rumble 60 combo (owned by my keyboard player actually), and a friend of mine owns the Fender Rumble 100. Both are cracking amps for the money - my Warwick sounded great through the 60, the 12" speaker had a lovely punchy tone and you could hear every note clearly in a band situation. The EQ was also very versatile and I could obtain most of the sounds required by a rock and blues band (similar to your needs) Have you looked at the Hartke combos, specifically the Kickback models? I currently play through the Kickback 12, and it's easily the best solid state combo I've played through. Plenty of power for gigs (with PA support) and sounds great at home too. If you wanted a little more low end, the Kickback 15 is quite similar but with a bigger speaker. I'd investigate these if you get a chance, they're great IMO, but of course you'll only know for sure if you play through one! Hope this helps, Danny
17.
I've purchased many things from there! Great service! The last time I bought an American Precision which sucked and I've send them an email that I want to return it and they arranged the whole thing and UPS drop by my place and pick it up and when it arrived back to musicstore I got a full refund!
Wow, that sounds like good service! How did you put it when you wanted to return it? Was there a fault with the instrument or did you just not like it?
18. Take the second cabinet, and if it doesn't make a suitable difference, look for something else!
19.
That is obsene Would be interesting to hear his playing in a band now. G
I bet you he isn't half the player that the amount of gear he owns suggests!
20. I paid £900 for the same bass used, and it was worth every penny! If I had £800 spare I'd snap it up and use it in conjunction with my current SSII. They really are brilliant basses, if you do decide to bite the bullet and go for it, it will be worth it mate. PS - I'm not the seller just in case you're wondering Danny
21. Hello all, Anyone after an Ampeg SVT-4PRO 1600w head? I'm selling mine, as seen in this thread - Show Us Your Rig It's really the Swiss Army Knife of bass heads (as most of you will know), with a valve pre/SS power amp, 1600w power into 2 ohms stereo, built in crossover etc etc. Has served me well for countless gigs and has always been kept in a 4U rackcase, and is as such in mint condition. It's around 4 years old and I'm the second owner, bought originally from Simon (onebassplayer) on these forums. It's an American model, and as such I'll supply the step down transformer for free. I need the cash to pay off my overdraft before I go back to university, and perhaps a little towards an all valve head sometime soon too. I'm now accepting £600 including the rack case, foot switch, 4 pole Speakon cable. Delivery to anywhere in the UK will be £25, or you can arrange to collect the amp if you're in Northern Ireland. Thanks for reading, Danny
22. Hello all.... Well, I'm just back from a jamming session in my local, youngest person there by about 20 years and I played half the set with the house band! Nerves got me a bit at the start, but then I relaxed and enjoyed every moment of it. I tried my best despite knowing any of the songs that were played, and managed to bluff my way through a set of mostly 12 bar tunes. Felt really great playing with the other guys and definitely something I'd love to do again. So anyway.... Any jammers here? I know back on BW a few mentioned jamming sessions being a bit cliqué-y - what's your local scene like? Cheers for reading, (a slightly intoxicated) Danny
23. I believe Largo has (or had) one of these? Quite a looker I think
