Ok,it is with great thanks to my Polish friend Tomek for kindly sending me this bass,I have spent the past year finding him vintage and rare B.C.Rich guitars and basses including a PMS Bich which is one of only 15,a neck thru BCR Explorer guitar (approx 1 of 13) and approx 13 or 14 others He sent me this for free as a thank you 1981 Quilty TJ Mock The bass is in generally great shape, although the previous owner, before Tomek, must have stored it in water, all the screws for the cavity cover were rusted and have been replaced, the rear pick up-only 1 half works properly But other than that a fantastic bass-god I love the Internet-2 free vintage BCR's in a year!!!
I thought I recognised it... You did the right thing buying it, that's for sure!
Yep,it was mine,I bought it brand spanky new and imported it from the USA and then never really played it I was too scared of scratching the damned thing, but a fantastic bass, and I believe I gave Shockwave a killer deal on it,I'm more than sure he is happy with the deal, and he's probably happier knowing that I paid quite a bit more than I sold it to him for and he got what was basically a brand new Customshop bass. So yep,he did the right thing in buying it

Ugh-pointy basses Ha ha ha,only joking mate, cool score Try these guys for a gigbag http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/thunde...d--mo/68579-ask fo the inner size though If an Ironbird fits, then the Aria "Might",I measured my NJ Ironbird and it is 50" long Hope that helps *edit==The Ironbirds length was measured with the rear point on the wall and tape measure from wall to headstock tip-I.E. a straight line length...Diagonal length-tip of rear horn to headstock tip is 51" *

I sold this bass in 1992 (It's an American Handmade BTW) and recently got it back,in a straight swap for a Yamaha John Myung,so I scored The guy that owned it before me said he didn't use it for a long time, and then took it to the studio and then noticed it sounded "sh*t",I doubt very much that there are too many people that could help with the Pre-amp and varitone circuits, and it would probably be cheaper to just replace the whole lot,as I said,I can get a new circuit and pick ups for it for £220 + shipping Thanks for all the replies
I blame your pup problems on the number of knobs and switches on that BCR In all seriousness couldn't the issue be with the preamp leccy gubbins? It looks pretty complex and the more bits to potentially go wrong.
I thought about that, that is why I replaced the Varitone/booster circuitboard with a brand new one,it didn't make much difference,so the option left to me is to replace the full circuit at a cost of £160 for the parts and both the pick ups at a cost of £60 from the same place Pain in the ass,but hey, what can ya do
-
These are the sealed in resin Dimarzio 4 conductor Split P pick ups,so I doubt any of the above would apply, but I will think about calling this Andy guy once I know I have the cash to pay for anything This is the one giving me the hassle
Sorry. Lakland Joe Osborn check here: http://www.lakland.com/basses.htm
Yuck, sorry,Expensive Fender and Musicman copies are not for me,No matter what the Quality of the bass-Now had you said Sei,then we might have been talking But I'm sticking with the BCR Biches, and the '79 was one of the first Bich basses made
Just get an American Lak JO. That's got to be the compromise. How heavy are the DJ skylines?
I have no idea what you just wrote,it looked like English, but none of the words made sense to me

Well, that kinda sucks, but it's kinda what I expected Kills the Vintage "Everything must be original" market though eh?

Ok,I have 2 vintage B.C.Rich Koa and Maple neck thru basses,a 1985 Bich Supreme 8 string and a 1979 Bich 8 string Whilst the 1985 sounds beautiful, the 1979 sounds completely sh*t,very weak in the bass department All the wires are in the correct places on the bass,so I thought perhaps the Varitone circuit had died,so I got another NEW circuit and installed it,the bass seems Deeper sounding in the out of phase position, which it obviousley shouldn't,but it is still a LOT weaker sounding than the '85 Could it be possible that the Original 1979 DiMarzio pick ups have just had it?,and it needs a new set?,I am contemplating buyin a new complete Bich circuit and 2 pairs of DiMarzio Split P's I can;t test the ohmage of the pick ups as I broke my Draper multimeter
Lorne, that's completely understandable, if they were mine I wouldn't even contemplate selling them (although I would have them strung up with all 8 strings, but then again I love the sound of 8 string bass and it suits one of my playing styles very nicely). I think that the Bich style body is an elegant solution to the tricky problem of finding places for all the tuners (and Kramer obviously thought so too). If you come across one up for sale that you aren't interested in I'd much appreciate a "heads up".
I know of 2 and they're both F%%*^%g expensive and not in the U.K.
Lorne, If I'd been doing this thread 30 years ago BC Rich would have been right in there, however in the intervening years IMO they've become pretty much the mainstream for "extreme rock" styled instruments and also I don't feel that the designs are quite as radical compared with what else is now available as they were back in the late 70s. Having said that if you ever feel the need to sell one of your 8 strings I'll probably be at the front of the queue!
Erm,Not for sale,At least not yet My 2 are kinda the best you can get,the first one is a 1979 bass, now the Bich was unleashed on the public in 1978,but the basses didn't appear until 1979,so this is one of the first The other one is a 1985 Supreme, one of only about 20 ever made,so that makes it kinda rare too However, for the right money I "Might" be persuaded to sell the Mockingingbird used in a Thin Lizzy video-it won't be cheap!
Hehe, yeah i thought so. Nice Basses mate. How did you wiggle those ones through the wife? I am still trying to thrash something out with BCR and Larry, I have had two guys look at the bass and tell me the neck angle is wrong.
I've had the Ironbird for over 2 years,2 f***ed necks,so I was offered a stonking deal on the 100 piece N.J. II Warlock, and the wife bought it for me,for My birthday-I knew there was a reason for marrying her-other than she's gorgeous
-
Lornes far to poor for it at the mo
I think you should check with me about my finances before making assumptions mate! On the plane to me right now :- Also a pair of Dimarzio Split P pick ups and a Chrome Badass II as well as some other stuff-once the Warlock arrives,it will be ripped apart to rebuild this A Mk I Ironbird (Import) I certainly wouldn't spend £500 on a bolt on ANYTHING,least of all a MK II Ironbird, not my thing-sorry

As the owner of probably the weirdest shaped basses here, there's absolutely nothing in this thread that I would want

Don't post your bass via Parcelforce/RoyalMail
Lorne replied to OldGit's topic in General Discussion
Congrats Oldgit-I just had to read this whole damn thing! Here is another props for www.interparcel.com/ I sold my 1996 USA Handmade B.C.Rich Innovator thru neck bass for the rediculousley low sum of £500,trouble was,I sold it to a Yank,so it had to travel accross the "Pond" again, not so much a problem, except the bass was so long,122cm,there was no way of getting a hardcase for it-I put the bass in a gigbag, and cut up 2 cot matresses to pack the in the box. I got a quote from Parcel Farce for sending the bass, fully insured (Seems worthless) and it was £150! Interparcel charged me £98 including full insurance and a guaranteed 3 day delivery, well they picked it up late on Monday, approx 3pm,and lo and behold,Wednesday morning I get an email, the bass had arrived in perfect condition in the USA and it wasn't even 48 hrs since UPS picked it up on behalf of Interparcel-of course I sh*t myself all the way until recieving the email! I am well impressed with their service and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone And here she is,safe and sound next to her sister B.C.Rich Bernardo 6 bass in the USA -
Cool-old school Yammies-congrats

Nice, although I'm not digging the scratchplate on the one on the left-2 ply would have looked better
